Our guesthouse was finished in 2012 and was designed by award winning architects IDEAoffice. It sits on a hillside with views of the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory. The guesthouse has a full private bath, a kitchen, air conditioning and heating. It has a rooftop deck with a hammock for lounging. There is a queen sized bed and a convertible couch that can be either one or two twin beds or combined to be a double bed. The house is nestled in the quiet Elysian Heights area of Echo Park, we are close to all the great restaurants and attractions of Downtown L.A., Silverlake, Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. We are next to one of L.A.'s largest parks with miles and miles of trails. There is easy access from the guest house to all the major movie studios as well as University of Southern California. If you are into culture, we are close to MOCA, Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Ahmanson Theater. If you like sports, you can walk to Dodger Stadium or take a short drive to Staples Center. If you are in town for a convention, the L.A. Convention Center is just down the freeway.
The Guest house is down 33 steps from the street. Guest can use the roof deck (which is NOT available for guest use between June 8th and August 22nd), hammock and seating on the deck. The pool is always off limits to guests.
Interaction with Guests
We prefer to give our guests privacy and to maintain our own privacy. Therefore, unless there is a need for meeting in person, we will always communicate by text or email.
Elysian Heights is a diverse neighborhood full of families that have lived in the community for generations, newly arrived transplants from other cities, and folks who have decided to raise there kids in this community conscious corner of L.A.
There are buses available on Sunset Blvd., down the hill that can take you to metro stations but by far, getting around by car is your best bet.
Other Things to Note
Make sure that you don't park your car facing uphill on Avon Street. You are likely to get a ticket if you do. There is a switch for turning on and off the step lights. It is on the right side inside the gate on the block wall under the grey metal cover.

I had a great stay. Loved the quiet, private, and beautiful location. Free parking right in front of the house... really nothing to complain about at all. Sue is really easy to communicate with and the place is set up to make it easy to do your own thing and come and go at your own pace.
The space was exactly as described. Very clean and airy. Great view. Super comfortable (firm) bed. The interaction via text with Sue was super efficient and convenient. Echo Park is a Great location too. Thankful for the great nights' sleep here :)
I had a wonderful stay at Sue and Gideon's guest house. It was my second time staying there and it was just as lovely as I had remembered it to be. It's such a wonderful location and an excellent little house. And everything on their end was extremely well taken care of - from cleanliness of the house upon arrival to communication before and during the stay. Highly recommended.
We had a really easy stay at Sue & Gideon's - we never met them but they had left us really good instructions for their place. Great location, the Main Street in echo park is even walkable despite mostly needing a car in LA. The place was clean and tidy and had a really great view from the deck up top. Accommodated four fine but would be more comfortable with two. Would definitely stay again!
Sue and Gideon were wonderful hosts! It was so easy to communicate to Sue because she responded quickly through text. The view from the guesthouse was awesome day and night! The interior of the house was simple and clean. It felt very homey and comfortable at the house, which made us not want to leave at all! The house was a close distance to everything in LA, so it was very convenient. I would definitely recommend this house! The only negative to me was the bugs.. Close the door quickly so no moths or mosquitoes get in. We were trying to kill a giant moth for about 5 mins. It was not fun.
This is modern, compact, light and airy accommodation in a quiet and secure hillside location. It is away from the traffic in the valley below and has good distant views. There is no interference from the owners. I enjoyed my stay and have booked a return visit.
Super Location. Hat alles wunderbar mit Sue und Gideon geklappt und kann die Unterkunft als ruhiges Rückzugsgebiet für ein doch anstrengendes LA wärmstens weiter empfehlen
