About this listing
Our guesthouse was finished in 2012 and was designed by award winning architects IDEAoffice. It sits on a hillside with views of the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory. The guesthouse has a full private bath, a kitchen, air conditioning and heating. There is a queen sized bed and a convertible couch that can be either one or two twin beds or combined to be a double bed. The house is nestled in the quiet Elysian Heights area of Echo Park, we are close to all the great restaurants and attractions of Downtown L.A., Silverlake, Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. We are next to one of L.A.'s largest parks with miles and miles of trails. There is easy access from the guest house to all the major movie studios as well as University of Southern California. If you are into culture, we are close to MOCA, Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Ahmanson Theater. If you like sports, you can walk to Dodger Stadium or take a short drive to Staples Center. If you are in town for a convention, the L.A. Convention Center is just down the freeway.
The Guest house is down/up 33 steps from the street. There is a locked gate at the street and another gate to the staircase. Your entrance is private and separate from the main house.
Interaction with Guests
We prefer to give our guests privacy and to maintain our own privacy. Therefore, unless there is a need for meeting in person, we will always communicate by text or email.
Elysian Heights is a diverse neighborhood full of families that have lived in the community for generations, newly arrived transplants from other cities, and folks who have decided to raise there kids in this community conscious corner of L.A.
There are buses available on Sunset Blvd., down the hill that can take you to metro stations but by far, getting around by car is your best bet.
Other Things to Note
When we are in town and staying in the main house, our two dogs--a standard poodle named Spooky and a miniature poodle named Mochi -- will likely be in the front yard. They are very friendly but the little one may bark at you. That is a "play with me bark". If you are not comfortable with dogs, you should not rent this guest house.
Make sure that you don't park your car facing uphill on Avon Street. You are likely to get a ticket if you do.
There is a switch for turning on and off the step lights. It is on the right side inside the gate on the block wall under the grey metal cover.

Sue and Gideon's place was really lovely and perfect for my 2 night stay. I didn't meet them in person but they were really great communicators and was able to check in and out with zero hassles. The place was comfortable, had some stunning views from the top of the hill, and in a really cool neighborhood. I'm very happy with my visit and would recommend this to a friend.
This was a nice place with a nice view! Sue was a good host and quick to respond to any questions.
I loved my stay here, this place was great for a bit of peace and relaxation. The description and pictures describe the place perfectly, the property was very light and airy and fantastic to both hang out and work from. I did not meet Sue & Gideon in person but their communication and instructions were excellent.
This place is so cool. Not as big as the pictures seem, but after a few airbnb experiences, I just assume that that's to be expected. Still, the view is so nice and relaxing and it really is a great place to stay a few days in LA. Highly recommend it.
The room was very nice and clean.
If you dont have a car you have to pass some dangerous areas ( if you go for Hollywood etc) while waiting for your public transportation.
So you'll better rent a car or look for another place.
The host was very professional like a hotel.
We did not like that beacause we use Airbnb for another kind of experience.
But if you like a professional host the flat will fit.
This is a great place to stay when you're in LA--a quiet hilltop location just a block away from Elysian Park and not far from downtown Echo Park. Love the views!
Simple and easy. I've stayed before and it makes great sense when visiting family in Echo Park. Saw a red-tailed hawk this morning!
