Creek Berry Cottage is the home of what once was Creek Creek Berry Farm, an organic mixed livestock farm upon which we raised pigs, cows and sheep. We also raised vegetables and maintained an orchard. In the late 1990's, all work on the farm was done with draft horses. The property is no longer an operating farm, but the house and landscape provide a beautiful and quiet place to retreat and commune with nature. Fences are in excellent condition and pasture abounds, so bring your horses!
The 700 square foot house is very quaint and filled with light. A one story, well insulated, comfortable little haven. Each room is set up to function comfortably. The house is well equipped with everything you need for an overnight, with the exception of your food, clothes and your toothbrush. There is a kitchen and dining area, laundry room, one bathroom, a bedroom, and a large living room which can double as a bedroom (it has a queen sized futon and you can shut the door). The house is equipped with wireless WIFI, a large telelvision with a VCR and DVD player and a land line phone with national unlimited free usage. Guests should know that Verizon cell phone reception is sometimes spotty at the house.
Plan to sit outside under our beautiful Sugar Maple tree named Gertrude, and bring marshmallows! Spending the evening around the fire pit outside is a most peaceful and magical experience, as the sky above is wide open and filled with stars on a dark night. As millions of fireflies blink their little lights all around, you can hear Tea Kettle Brook trickle by, listen to songbirds nestle in for the night and then be taken back by Barred Owl calls as they emerge for their night activities. This property is truly a bird lovers dream. You will hear and observe multiple species of birds on any day throughout the year.
If you are in the mood to explore, throw a bottle of water and a snack (and fishing rod) in your pack and just start walking east. If you walk over Tea Kettle Brook, through the back field and woods, you will end up on the bank of the Neversink River. The sound of the water rolling over smooth river stones will take you away, and since the property encompasses both sides of the river, it will be all yours. If you walk due south through the front field toward the big Weeping Willow, you will end up at the pond, where you might see a beaver, a Great Blue Heron, and many wild blueberry bushes. If you walk southwest, you will find yourself climbing a pristine virgin hemlock forest, with beautiful rock slabs, moss everywhere, a spring and a cool fresh fragrance that you can only experience....there.
Located in the southern foot hills of the Catskills, the farm is just 1 1/2 hours north east of NYC. The Neversink Reservoir is 2 minutes up the road, as are trails leading into the Catskill Park. Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is a 25 minute drive. Restaurants can be found in Loch Sheldrake (5 minutes away), Liberty, Hurleyville and Grahamsville (10 minutes away). Ellenville and Monticello are approximately 20 minutes away.
The rate is $125 per night, with a 2 night minimum. For 2 night stays, there is a $50 house cleaning fee. For 3 or more nights, there is no house cleaning fee. Additionally, there is a $125 security deposit, which will be returned to you as soon as the house has been checked over with no damages found.
