Form + Function = Fabulous.
We just spent the last few months creating, renovating and decorating a self-contained studio in our English basement. Which can only be described as an enchanted and peaceful head-turning habitat with heart-stopping power.
We think it is the perfect getaway- an urban oasis, so close, yet so far.
Our English basement is a totally private studio space with approximately 600 square feet of space. It comes complete with its own kitchen and full bath.
It is located in gorgeous Historic Mount Pleasant.
Wake up in the morning to our tree-lined, cozy neighborhood. Go for a run or a bike ride in the Rock creek park trails. Stop by Hellers Bakery for coffee and a pastry. Stroll over to the National Zoo- less than five minutes from our home. Then head on down to Adams Morgan or Columbia Heights or U street- less than a mile from our neighborhood. Want to get to the White House? A quick 15 minute bus ride will get you down there. Since we are only a few blocks away from 16th street- a direct bus will get you to all the sightseeing you would like. Need to take the metro instead? We are less than a mile away from both the Columbia Heights and Cleveland Park metro- so you have your choice of the red line or the green/yellow line.
And in the evening- walk to tons of restaurants in three cool neighborhoods- Mount Pleasant, Columbia heights and Cleveland Park or just swing by the bodega close by and you can get food to cook in your own kitchen.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD/LOCATION
-4 blocks from Mount Pleasant Street, great mom and pop places, restaurants like Beau Thai, Tonic and Radius. Less than a mile from the 11th Street Strip (as seen in the New York Times) with tons of great bars and restaurants. My favorite hidden gems like Marx Café, Tonic, and Dos Gringos.
-Mount Pleasant is a gorgeous, historic neighborhood. It is friendly, safe, great for families and professionals. We are certainly ‘the cooler’ part of DC.
-There's also convenient shopping with Target, two supermarkets, and plenty of coffee chops, liquor stores, and anything you might need during your stay all within a ten minute walk.
TRANSPORTATION & PARKING
-BUS – Bus Stop is right outside our house. Buses take you to Columbia Heights metro (green/yellow metro)or Cleveland Park (Red line)
-METRO – Green/Yellow and Red line.
-BIKE: Capitol Bikeshare lets you rent a bike from one of 110 locations around the city and park it at any other station. A great way to get to the metro and is just four blocks away
-CAR: We do not provide parking with this property, but there is a un-restricted street just around the corner.
THINGS TO NOTE
-You will have a private entrance, which will give you maximum flexibility to come and go as you like. We will probably not know when you are coming or going.

This was our first AirBnB experience and we were quite happy with the booking. The apartment is in a very quiet and safe location (Mount Pleasant). The Columbia Heights metro station is a 15 minute walk and easy to get to. The apartment was very cute and had everything that we needed. Very cost and cute, just as described. Checking in and out was extremely easy.
It is a basement apartment so you will hear people above moving around, but we did not find the noise excessive nor disruptive. Mattress was a Tempurpedic and extremely comfortable.
Lovely, cozy apartment. Terrific location, all the information I needed to get in and out was provided by email and in the room. Nice quiet neighborhood. Great to have laundry and wifi.
This small basement apartment made a pleasant spot to land right near the zoo and adam's morgan. The keypad private entrance made coming and going easy and relaxed. The few questions that came up during my stay were addressed promptly and helpfully. A great little spot for stopping through DC.
What a wonderful stay we had in Washington D.C.! I can't say enough nice things about Ati's apartment, or Ati herself. The apartment was just as pictured (actually, even more spacious than we were expecting!) Rob & Ati were very sweet hosts, and it was a pleasure to get to meet them both. Neighborhood was really unique, and we never felt unsafe (even when walking back from the Metro later in the evenings.) Being a first time D.C. visitor, this apartment was such a no-brainer. We didn't have to worry about the location, amenities or price, which made our stay enjoyable and effortless so we could focus on exploring the city. Thank you Ati & Rob, you're doing a wonderful job!
Ati was very responsive and helpful before our arrival for both parking advice and check in details. The listing description is accurate, and the apartment layout was perfect for our needs. The neighborhood is wonderful, full of young families and professionals.
The main negative for us was the strong chemical smell in the apartment. Initially we thought the space had been freshly painted (with oil-based paint) so we opened 2 windows to air out the space. This seemed to help, but was not a solution. We later wondered if chemicals (paint thinner, weed killer?) were being stored under the front porch right outside one of our windows, since the smell was also strong outside the entrance. We closed that window for the second night.
In hindsight we should have been more concerned about our health and complained right away to Ati. We were hopeful the open windows would solve the problem. However we noticed after we left that others complained about the smell. When you're traveling you don't want to dwell on problems... we were visiting our son. Alternate lodging options are limited at the last minute, so that is another reason to just put up with it.
I hope Ati can resolve the toxic smell issues. Other than the smell (and other minor items... we borrowed a flat sheet and toilet paper from our son) it is a wonderful lodging option.
The apartment strikes a nice balance of being quiet and tucked away in a residential area and being near things to do. It's a good amount of space, but as others have noted, it sometimes has a gas-like smell. Getting in is very easy, and finding parking is a little tricky, but easy once you find streets without restrictions. The Metro is a good walk, but there's a bus that stops right across the street. We had some concerns about cleaning, since dishes were still in the washer and someone else's soap was still in the shower. Otherwise, the apartment was in good shape and a good deal for the price.
