About This Listing
Renovated room with private en-suite bathroom
This listing is for our recently renovated 4th bedroom with private bathroom. The bedroom is on the ground floor and has a full size bed and dresser.
Our house is a traditional double, Creole Cottage built in the mid 1800's before the Civil war and has been added to a number of times over the years.
I was trained as an Architect, and have played trumpet since the age of eight and currently my trio plays at Tommy's Wine Bar every Saturday night. My son Avery and I are in the process of restoring the cottage to its original character.
My Wife Liz helps run a Womens Clothing Boutique in the French Quarter (just a stones throw from Jackson Square) which she commutes to either on foot along the Oak lined Esplanade Ave. with it's 'Gone with the Wind' houses or by the use of her trusty old cruiser (This town is very Bike friendly).
My Son Avery moved here from New Zealand a couple of years ago to assist with the renovations, and help run Airbnb. He's a bit of a computer geek and belongs to a local Steam Punk group.
For those times you need a little down time, feel free to make use of our spacious (private) back yard, or find a spot on one of the chairs in our living room.
Liz and I have traveled extensively (usually on a shoestring) and have friends in a number of countries, we're always happy to recount the tales of our adventures, or to listen to yours.
It's a 20 minute walk(15 minute power walk!) to the French Quarter under those gorgeous 200 year old Oaks, surrounded by gorgeous 200 year old houses, on the old streetcar line.
We have four beautiful rescued cats. Miss Doris Day from the Bronx and a few locals, Brian Lion and Rocky Raccoon and Prince Harry. Our latest rescue is Sgt Pepper a Border Collie.
Guests have full run of the house and back yard, use of the bikes and a shared bathroom. Guests are also welcome to put food and drinks in the refrigerator.
Interaction with Guests
We work on the house most days and are otherwise generally around, generally we have several guests staying with us at a time as well.
No off-street parking available, however there is plenty of free on-street parking.
Recommended transport to or from the airport is by Taxi, currently all companies have a set fee of $33 ($14 extra per person after 2 people) the airport shuttle is also an option but usually insists on stopping at a hotel and charges are around $20 per person.
UberX now operates in New Orleans but cannot pickup from the airport (Uber Black can but charges much more than a Taxi).
Taking the bus is also possible, however the bus from the airport only runs once an hour, requires making a transfer and does not run weekends or evenings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How far are you from the French Quarter and Frenchman St?
A: We’re under a mile from the near end of the French Quarter, to get to the River and Frenchman St is just over a mile, most people can make the walk in around 20 minutes.
Q: How far are you from the Morial Convention Center?
A: The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is about 2.5 miles away, we recommend taking a Taxi, alternately there is a bus which takes you most of the way with a total travel time closer to 30 minutes.
Q: Do you offer breakfast?
A: Yes, we offer Toast, home made Muesli, fresh Fruit, Coffee or Tea. Breakfast is informal and guests are encouraged to help themselves to what is on offer.
Q: Do you have any pets in the house?
A: We have a border collie and several cats, for this reason guests with allergies may want to consider alternate accommodation.
Q: Do you have bikes?
A: We currently have six bikes which are shared between rooms, we do not take reservations on the bikes although it is rare for all of them to be in use at once. U-Locks are provided with the bikes.
Q: Can we get fresh sheets and Towels during our stay?
A: Fresh Towels and sheets are available on request
Q: What Size is the Bed in this room?
A: The Bed in this room has a Double (Full Size) mattress.
Q: Do you offer early Check-in or Late Check-out?
A: While we cannot guarantee the availability of rooms outside of normal check in times (Check-out 11am, Check-in 2pm) guests who are arriving early are welcome to drop their luggage off with us and get a key, we are also happy to look after the luggage of guests who are leaving town late in the day.
Q: When I try to book the room Airbnb gives me an error regarding verification.
A: We require all Airbnb guests who book with us to be ID verified, if you are having trouble with this we recommend contacting Airbnb directly as they handle the verification process.
Q: When I try to book Airbnb wont let me put in the dates I want.
A: In most cases this is because someone else has already booked the room for those nights.
However we generally block out dates more than six months in advance as we prefer not to take bookings this far ahead, however if you are looking at booking a stay of a week or longer six months to a year in the future we are willing to discuss it.
Q: Airbnb will not let me book a one night stay.
A: The minimum stay in both our #1 and #4 rooms (the rooms with private bathrooms) is two nights, although we are sometimes willing to override this setting in special circumstances.
Q: I have a friend who wants to stay with us, can they sleep on the floor?
A: Unfortunately the maximum number of people we allow in this room is two, if your friend wants to stay with you they will either need to book a room for themselves with us or find alternate accommodation.
Q: When I put the dates in I wanted the price of the room went up.
A: The nightly price of the room is variable, the price for weekends and during certain events (such as Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest) the price is higher, in some circumstances Airbnb reverts to showing the base nightly price and then shows the exact price when it calculates the total price of your stay.
Q: Are there any additional fees involved in my stay?
A: In most cases the total shown by Airbnb is the total price you pay, the most common exception to this is to cover damages, other costs are rare and subject to discussion and agreement.
- We ask that guest who are checking in (or have misplaced their key) do not use the doorbell after 10pm, either use the lockbox or phone me directly if you need to get into the house after this time (all guests receive a key to the house on arrival).
- We ask that guests do not smoke inside the house (smoking in the back yard is ok).
- Guests who use the bikes are responsible for their safe return.
Rick & Liz's place was perfect for us. The location (and the free bikes!) made it easy to get everywhere we wanted to go, and they made us feel very welcome.
What an amazing place to stay during my 2nd visit to NOLA! Rick, Liz and Avery were all extremely welcoming when we arrived. We had a great chat, and they offer a comfortable and beautiful home for all guests. Their location is also my favourite area of New Orleans. I would highly recommend to anyone traveling to this city to stay with them!
Rick and Liz are the perfect hosts! They are so friendly and full of information about the best places in New Orleans. We loved our stay. The location is only a 15-20 minute walk to the French Quarter and the same to the Bywater neighborhood. We walked everywhere and having access to the bikes was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again.
We've stayed for two weeks and had a fantastic time at Rick and Liz' place. Rick, Liz and Avery are wonderful - warm and welcoming people. You couldn't ask for better hosts and it was always great to chat with them. Their house is a beautiful old shotgun house in the hip and safe Treme area. It's close to the French Quarter and the Fairgrounds, so it was an ideal location for the Jazz Fest. They provided a continental breakfast and we had access to bicycles, so we were able to cycle everywhere and didn't need to spend any money on cabs or public transport. Our room was cozy and it was great to relax in their beautiful garden. Highly recommended, we would stay here again anytime.
Rick was very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in two rooms while we were there - both charming with antique furniture and in-suite bathrooms. There was access to complimentary bikes and locks too which was very useful as the location is at least a 20 minute walk from the core of NO. But, closer to great spots like City Park. Biking allowed more freedom and accessibility. Rick was easy going and flexible and transferred our luggage from one room to the next while we were enjoying the city as well as allowed us to leave our luggage on our last day. Our first trip to NOLA - we'll definitely be back!
Rick, Liz and Avery were great hosts for our short stay. The cottage is within a two-mile walking distance to the French Quarter and we walked each day/night to get around. Our room was the bedroom just as pictured on their website and the bath had been updated. Everything was clean and there were numerous pamphlets and books for sightseeing. We had a wonderful visit to New Orleans and would visit the Roff's again.
Our hosts Liz and Rick were very gracious and helpful with local information. They made us feel right at home. The room and bathroom were just like they looked in the pictures. The last day there it rained and we got soaked and Rick helped us get our clothes and sneakers dry before going to the airport. I would recommend staying there. We loved having the bikes available to ride around town.
