About This Listing
The “Treehouse” is nestled in a little valley surrounded by giant eucalyptus trees, covered in vines. Listen to the babbling creek below, have coffee or tea on the deck & watching the trees sway. Read on carefully for more important info...
The "Treehouse" is the lower unit of a duplex that is nestled in a little valley in Sausalito. It is built on pilings, on a hillside, surrounded by giant eucalyptus trees that are covered in vines, and because you are about mid-way up the tree it feels as if we are in an actual treehouse! The deck is a perfect place to have your morning coffee or tea, while sitting in the sun and watching the trees sway in the breeze. Below you can sometimes hear the babbling creek (when we've had enough rainfall).
The apartment is small and quaint with one bathroom and two bedrooms. Your bedroom has a full size or double bed, and it is available for a maximum of 2 guests. There is a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, and a small kitchen and dining area. At night you can cuddle up with lots of warm blankets in your cozy room.
If and when possible, I can pick you up at the bus station at "Spencer Avenue/Monte Mar Drive" or from the ferry drop off, from San Francisco. Otherwise they offer to call a taxi to meet you there and bring you down to my apartment. I have a lock-box so guests can come in even if I'm not home.
If you have a car, there is some street parking very close by and the rest is withing 1-2 blocks, so no problem. You can drive up and drop off luggage and then go park the car.
I welcome guests from around the world. I hope you will consider visiting this wonderful location, right in the middle of where you want to be and where you want to go!
If you are interested, please send me an email and tell me a little about yourself, who you are traveling with, and why you want to come to the Bay Area. And please share with me what you are looking for in a short or long term visit. Thanks!
When I am there, in the morning you will have a fresh pot of coffee, and a selection of lovely teas. If I'm not there, I will make sure you have what you need to make coffee or tea! I will usually have scones, toast, fruit and cereal, unless I've been traveling, in which case there is a lovely little grocery store just down the hill on Caledonia street, called DRIVERS Market, where you can get anything you need. You are welcome to use the kitchen, I just ask that you help to keep it tidy and clean up afterwards.
Interaction with Guests
My interaction with guests varies depending on my schedule.
I work 9-5 or 10AM-6PM during the week, so I'm usually only home in the mornings. Evenings I often go to Yoga or band practice. Weekends I like to venture out and play in the Bay Area. Sometimes guests can/will join me!
Depending on my plans, and the plans my guests have, we may hang at my place, make a fire in the fireplace and have a glass of wine or cup of tea one evening, or we may have a cup of coffee in the morning... and sometimes we may both be fully booked with things to do, and we only see one another in passing over the course of a week/end.
On occasion I'm traveling and I may not see my guests at all! In which case the lock-box comes in very handy!
THIS IS A GREAT LOCATION! I'm straight up the hill from our local eat street and I can direct you to the best local places. There is plenty to see and do in Sausalito! You can walk to downtown to visit the shops and fantastic array of restaurants, take a bus or a ferry to San Francisco for the day, ride a sailboat around Angel Island for sunset, rent and ride a bike over the Golden Gate bridge into San Francisco, kayak or paddleboard around the house boats of Sausalito, or hike in the Marin Headlands to see sweeping views of the bay, San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge! And these are only a few of the many things to do. You may also choose to take a trip to Sonoma or Napa, for a day of wine tasting, check out Armstrong Woods for a hike where there are very few tourists, or head up coastal highway One, and have lunch in another small Marin county town, possibly grabbing some oysters from Tomales Bay!
There is a fun ferry that goes to the San Francisco Ferry Building, AKA, The Embarcadero. I have two clipper cards for anyone who will be relying on public transportation. The Marin Airporter is the best deal and best bet to get you from the airport to a stop off the 101 that is very close to my house, (and all uphill from where I live... a taxi to get up there, or down to my house, is a good idea, and totally available. The driver will call one for you.) If guests have a car they can get around easier, because in Marin County the public transportation isn't so great. But if you like to walk and hike you will love it here. Bring good walking shoes!
Other Things to Note
IMPORTANT: The stairs coming down to the apartment have settled quite a bit and are slanted and uneven in places. This can be tricky for anyone who has physical challenges, particularly with knees/ankles/hips.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: My upstairs neighbors had a baby, and although only ONE guest has complained about the noise (The one I somehow didn't get the message to before they booked, and I feel awful about that!) I recommend bringing earplugs. I have a white noise machine in the guest bedroom, too.
Here are a few basic house rules. I like to keep my home as stress-free as possible, and I do my best to maintain a healthy, clean, peaceful atmosphere. I am very social and love conversation, cooking, and sharing good wine with guests and friends. I am also very respectful and mindful of others' privacy. It is a small living environment, and as with any co-living/visiting situation, communication is key!
Keep the common areas of the apartment clean and tidy. I am a big believer in the power of Feng Shui! Also, NO SMOKING in or around the apartment, please.
No pets. Sorry :-(
Please do not invite additional guests to the apartment without asking and receiving my permission.
Typically 10PM to 8AM during the week and 12AM to 10AM on weekends.
Erica wrote an accurate description and was a kind and attentive host. We loved strolling around the neighborhood, walking up legendary Sausalito hills and viewing the spectacular homes in the area. If you stay here, don't miss a chance to walk all over--you'll get great exercise and catch some awesome views.
Erica is a wonderful host, very welcoming and kind. She was sure we had everything we needed, including fresh fuzzy towels, a comfy bed, and fresh fruit and breakfast items. The treehouse is beautiful and cozy, perfect for a weekend getaway. Thanks so much, Erica!
I've arrived very late at night and had no trouble finding the place based on Erika's detailed instructions. My room was ready and I've met Erika and her partner in the morning before they headed out. I had a car and had no trouble finding parking on the street. I advise having a car if you want to stay in Sausalito heights.
Erica's treehouse was amazing! My girlfriend and I spent Valentines day weekend here and we couldn't have been happier. The location was perfect, just a short walk to downtown Sausalito and only a 5 minute drive to the freeway and nearby hiking trails. We hiked through the Marin Headlands and down to Black Sands Beach, which was one of the best hikes I've ever been on. Hopefully we'll have another opportunity to stay here, and get to know Erica!
This was our first Airbnb stay and Erica couldn't have possibly been a better host! She made us feel comfortable from the beginning and was very accommodating. From her very helpful book of information to the morning coffee to the on the spot hand drawn map Erica really went above and beyond what we expected.
As for the apartment everything was as we expected from the pictures, description, and reviews and we really enjoyed the neighborhood. Its quiet, safe, and we never had trouble finding parking. Access to San Francisco is very easy by car or ferry and we absolutely loved our trips to Armstrong Woods and Sonoma (neither of which would we have known about without Erica's recommendations).
Overall this was a great first experience with Airbnb and we have Erica and her cute treehouse to thank for it.
Thanks again Erica, hope to see you and John in Chicago sometime soon!

A home-away-from home is Erica's "Treehouse". We had stimulating and thought-provoking and heart-warming conversations around the fireplace as well as some great food from her kitchen. Erica is connected to a vibrant "green" community and we felt especially at home in Sausalito. Erica helped us find our way around San Francisco and north to the redwoods. We walked to town and enjoyed great restaurants. And the view from the porch is fabulous as there is no place else I would rather be than in the woods! Can't wait to return to Erica's "Treehouse"!
Kathryn and Larry are two of the sweetest, kindest, most interesting people! It was so inspiring to have such great conversations and share life stories with them both. They are ideal guests... clean, quiet and considerate, and I hope they will return again someday for a visit!
About the Host, Erica
I'm originally from Minneapolis, and I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over nine years. I have a wonderful community here!
I earned an MBA in Sustainable Enterprise (Green MBA) from Dominican University of CA and my undergraduate degree is Spanish and Portuguese. I have traveled fairly extensively in Latin America and a little in Europe, and I always seek authentic, local experiences, both as a visitor and to provide, as a host.
I serve on the Board of Directors for a local non-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization called For The Bayou. We have events to raise awareness and funds for wetland restoration in South Louisiana, something I am very passionate about!
I enjoy music, dancing, eating, cooking, hiking, biking, traveling, singing and spending time with my dear friends. I also love to garden and/or farm (I WWOOFed -Willing Workers On Organic Farms- for over a year on a farm in Northern California, while earning my MBA).
I am an open, respectful, kind-hearted woman and I love to share living life to the fullest with anyone who crosses my path! And that said, laissez les bons temps rouler!! (Let the good times roll, New Orleans style!)
