The Space

Finca Las Frambuesas is a 7 acre farm with a river, small lake, forest, an orchard, 2 traditionally built houses, a fire pit, 3 dogs and a horse. Aside form renting our two beautiful houses, Casa del Lago (Lake House) and Casa del Pozo (Well House), we are starting an organic farming project and organizing holistic courses. If you stay 3 or more days we will share with you a basket of our own organic produce for your enjoyment!

The farm is located in San Isidro de Heredia, less than 40 minutes from the International Airport, only 25 minutes from San Jose by car and just 5 minutes from Braulio Carrillo National Park; a tropical rainforest with one of the highest levels of biodiversity in Costa Rica. More than 90% of the park is covered in primary forest.

Casa del Lago was built in the early 90’s as a family house, with the vision of upbringing our two children in an ideal country side environment not so far from quality educational centers and the comforts of the city. The space will feel very homey and warm, with a cozy traditional kitchen, a fire place, and three bedrooms that have been decorated with a personal family touch.

The property is perfect for small weddings, contact us for more information on special events.

Because of the proximity to San Jose and the peaceful surroundings Casa del Lago is ideal for home births. Contact us for more information.

The Area

The area offers many interesting things to do, from chocolate tasting tours, to hikes into the rain forest. Our farm is a perfect base for visiting the volcanoes Poas and Barva. We will provide you with a list of things to do and places to eat or to order.

Getting Around

Public transport is available, although limited. Taxis can be arranged easily. Rented cars are probably the most convenient means of transportation. Upon request a transfer from the airport or/and from San Jose to the farm can be arranged at a market rate.

If you have further questions don’t hesitate to contact us, we will answer quickly and will be more than glad to help you out!

  • So sweet! Lovely, inviting home - far nicer than the pictures show. (The pictures make it look rather gloomy, but instead it's utterly charming and cheerful when you see it in person.) This is not just a rental but obviously a real home that had been lived in by the owners, so it has just about every homey amenity and detail you could possibly need. Very well maintained and meticulously clean. Beautiful furnishings and decorations and art in every room, even fresh-cut flowers in every room, freshly snipped from the lush gardens that surround the house.
It's very quiet, peaceful, and private here, away from all the noise and dense traffic of the towns and the city. It's also a bit remote from the central valley, so plan on taking an hour to get from there to anything you want to do in San Jose. But we were very glad to get out of the congested city and breathe the sweet, clean country air! It's a bit higher elevation than the city, and therefore it's cool without needing air conditioning - perfect temperatures.
We chose the location because it's about an hour to Poas Volcano to the northwest, about an hour northeast to Irazu Volcano, and about an hour south San Jose. The location is a peaceful upscale district, and the roads are paved and in good condition (in stark contrast to abominable roads we drove on in other areas of the country). From the house and yard there is a grand sweeping view of the central valley including San Jose and the hills beyond. In the evenings we sat on the back porch and gazed at the view while relaxing over a glass of wine, and in the mornings we watched the local birds in the trees around the property.
The price is amazingly reasonable for such a beautiful private home.
The only drawback is that the property is hard to find in the maze of many turns on nameless roads. Maria provided coordinates which we entered into our GPS, but it led us to a barren construction site several miles away. So we started over and this time followed the map she had provided, and got hopelessly lost again. Then we called her and she led us on the phone, step by step and turn by turn (fortunately for us she speaks fluent English) to the property. So the first night, we arrived at least 2 hours later than we'd anticipated. Once we found the place, we set our GPS for the location, and had no problem getting back to it.
Next time we visit Costa Rica, we'll head out of the city at the start, and spend more time at Casa del Lago or at Maria's other beautiful rental on the property, Casa del Pozo.

Thanks Adriana for such a nice review and the feedback! For some reason the review doesn't appear public. Here it is:

It is hard to find words to convey how BEAUTIFUL this property is! Grand mountain views, Gardens everywhere, the sounds of the fountain coming from the front entrance, the breeze and sound of the birds as you watch the beautiful city of Heredia below... This is a magnificent estate built from the dreams of a visionary with an eye to the natural beauty that is Costa Rica. Elmer( the caretaker) was the warmest, kindest person/his wife Jenny very helpful around the casa del Lago/ Diego their 10 year son is a kind and polite boy! My 2 granddaughters enjoy playing with him everyday! Finca las Frambuesas also has 4 beautiful/well behaved doggies, they just make that place so much fun with seen them jump at the lake everyday! Finca las Frambuesas is just the perfect place to relax...3 beautiful rooms/2 large bathrooms/the fireplace the we so much enjoy every evening!!!everything I had dreamed it could be and more. this place is heaven and would be perfect for any get away, from a honeymoon to a family vacation. I urge anyone staying in Costa Rica to stay at Finca las Frambuesas will be back!

  • Maria is a warm hearted woman. Although we arrived late at night she was awaiting us. She even did some shopping for us and the huge fridge was filled. The house is perfectly maintained. Everything is in perfect optical and functional condition. The house is nicely situated on the mountain slopes next to San José. Overlooking the city with nice views at day and night. To the AirPort it is only 30 Minutes and easy to find. The surroundings are absolutly quiet so that you have a piecefull and relaxed time. You have absolutly your privacy. For our start into Costa Rica this was the best place to choose. Thank you Maria

  • Maria was very nice and very good. Especially helping us find the place late in the evening when we got turned around by our GPS. She drove into town to meet us and bring us back. We really enjoyed the house, especially the fine back patio over-looking a nice view of San Jose. It was so nice we spent a day just relaxing and enjoying the ambience and the view. We felt like aristocracy. The kitchen was spacious and well-provided, including even decaf coffee. We'd gladly come back.
