Touring the big island in a couple of days, I was looking (email hidden) to stay after Hilo, and on my way to the Volcano. This is a beautiful house, in a unique setting.
The house is at a great location in the tropical forest. You can't even seen any neighbors but during the night you here a lot of frogs and during the day you see birds.
If you arrive at night it's better to have a lamp. There is no key for the entrance so I took my valuable belongings with me.
Steven is very nice and I had a great time speaking with him.
It's a really fency home! So beautiful view. I can smell some flavors of woods in the house. There is a classic Kramer guitar, metalheads should check this out:) Steven is really kind, also recommend some routes and spots for us. Really helpful!!
Pineapple House (email hidden). Everything works as it should, beds are comfortable, there is Wifi, shower is nice and warm, and carpets are very lush! It's situated far from everything, and a car is definitely needed to get there. This is part of the charm of this place: jungle noises and no light pollution whatsoever. Also, Steven, the host, is a really nice and helpful guy. A great experience!
My stay at Steven's was great! The room was great, the weather, frogs, and rain on the tin roof made for relaxing evening times! Thanks Steven and Diane for everything .
It has been a nice stay. I was greeted by a orchestra of frogs and woke up with the wild roosters. Wery nice and relaxing environment with lots of nature around. Great place to stay.
Our hosts were fantastic! They were kind enough to accommodate us at very short notice. After a long hot lava walk Steven's house was luxurious! If you think the photos look good, wait until you walk through the front door. The morning smoothies were also a treat. Thank you for having us!
Almost a year on since we stayed at the Pineapple House but the memories are still at the forefront of our minds. We loved the quietness of the location being completely surround by vegetation was great. As a host Steve was outstanding, my boys still talk about Steves shakes and we have never quite been able to recreate them. Thanks Steve our stay was more than we could have wished for.
From the beginning, Steven was very helpful to let us change our dates and to help us find some spots for snorkelling, hot pools and lava viewing. The house, well maintained, seems to be located in the middle of the jungle. At night, you will hear all those insects and birds singing together and it is very loud! We had a small issue with the waterpump noise in the back of the house but Steven fixed it while we were there and everything was ok. I would still recommend that you bring ear plugs though. Also, you will need a car to get there. It seems to be in the middle of nowhere when in reality, you have Lava Tree state park at a mile distance. The only « bad » thing worth mentionning is that is was a bit hot in the room at night with the door closed. Nothing the installation of a ceiling fan wouldn't solve, though. The best thing about this place is definitely its hosts! We never felt like our hosts (Steven and his girlfriend Diana) were tired of having us over or anything (that can happen when you're in someone's house). Even better, they made us excellent smoothies, we could have as many lattes as we wanted and the kitchen was ours to use. Plus, on our last night, they made us and the Italian couple that was staying during the same time we did an excellent farewell dinner with local fish. It was a real treat. Steven and Diana are good people and they won't let you clean the dishes even if you insist! :) All in all, a great experience, many things to do relatively close by (Volcanoes Park is about an hour drive and Punalu'u Black Sand Beach (turtles) is about 1,5 hour drive). Had great conversations with Steven, he is really interested in knowing more about you and the place where you come from. I would certainly go back.
great space, friendly host and the best smoothies!
