Interaction with Guests
I am present sometimes when guests are here but I do travel around the world and may or may not be in the space so you should treat it like your own home. airbnb is not a hotel so no one is cleaning for you and its a share so its important to contribute to not just picking up after yourself but to cleaning for longer term stays.
Other Things to Note
there is laundry in the building basement.. ;p the garbage shoot is at the end of the hall past the elevator .. and the closet next to the garbage shoot is used for recyclables which i have a container in the house (second garbage can just for recyclables) I use only the purple sponge for dishes and others below the kitchen sink to clean (don't use cleaning rags on plates etc)
same with the dish clothes.. there are very thin ones for dishes the more terry cloth ones are hand towels..
In the bathroom the shower curtain can be washed with the laundry once a week and all the bathmats hand towels that are white are for common use.. if someone has their own personal try to hang colored ones so you can tell the difference when you are staying and not use other peoples things.. there is a drawer cabinet in the bathroom and you can use the empty one for your bathroom stuff. Use anything in the kitchen and closet unless it has a label on it not to use. if you store dishes or kitchen items (besides food which is a given you wouldnt eat other people's food) just label it if you don't want people to use but the kitchen has a nutribullet, toaster, microwave full dishes, plates room in freezer etc. I will send you an email about which cupboard space and fridge shelf to keep your stuff on when you book.
The bedroom doors click if you don't turn the handle so when coming in and out during 11p-9am hours just try to be quiet with the doors. Even the front door slams hard if you don't hold it.. just a few things to be considerate about.. but the main thing is have fun..
My bike lock keys in a glass cup on the desk next to the stove and the locks are in the kitchen cupboard.. you can use the bike and lock (only need 1 lock) just lock up both tires if you are leaving it unattended) there is a iron etc in the hall closet.. please don't go into the hallway closet next to the front door of the apartment or use the printer they belong to someone who usually is there.. only use things in kitchen living room (feel free to use dvds and dvd player) or in your private bedroom.
The first rule is to enjoy NYC!!
Any hours is fine here just be considerate of the noise after 1am and before 10am. Thanks
Checkin anytime after 3pm est. Check out by 12noon.
Wifi wireless Network password is on a coarkboard next to the fridge.
Please lock both locks on the front door. it turns to the right. Unlock the top lock first since you need to use the bottom lock key to open the door. Please put down bathroom rug and hang it up so it doesnt get walked on with shoes.
e sharing this apartment with other airbnb guests in 2 other rooms so when you are here you are expected to clean the apartment like bathroom kitchen common areas and keep clean as if you are staying in your own home. Please do your part so other guests don't get upset.
Feel free to use the Britta water filter in the fridge to put tap water in, so you can fill water bottles. We have beach chairs, bikes, yoga mattes, juicer, ice cooler if you need something to do a day at central park or coney island etc.
ENJOY your stay!
Bring own toiletries and food for fridge. Clean up after yourself (throw away the trash when its full, do your dishes, the basics! :)) Be respectful. Have FUN IN NYC!!
After you book, please shoot me an email when you are arriving and I will coordinate with my schedule.
This neighborhood is amazing and has the best kept secrets so use yelp site for Clinton Hill Brooklyn or Time Out to find out what's going on. I have 2 bikes that you can always borrow for a short ride across the Brooklyn Bridge. I have towels if you need them. Sheets /Linens will be provided in each room that go with each bed but feel free to bring your own but keep the mattress protector on the bed please. You can store some items in fridge.
Please be aware our front door can slam loudly (no spring) so hold it if you are coming in late hours. My neighbor across the hall has a small child. Also the bedroom doorknobs will make the bedroom doors kinda loud if you don't twist the knob and close it quietly so I do ask all guests to be courteous of others who may have working hours or light sleepers if you do come in and out late of closing doors quietly. xo
Buy your own hygiene items and food of course ;p and contribute to things you will need as in dish soap, garbage bags and toilet paper.
Thanks and have a blast in brooklyn! its soo fun in this borough. 1luv
*There would be more but I only have 500 words for this review...
Don’t get me wrong, things started off okay but after 3 weeks in that space we soon realized that Valerie does not care about her guest or their safety - her goal is to make as much money as possible. And when you call her out on it she becomes highly disrespectful and irrational.
The listing says non-smoking - Valerie smokes weed and also allows her guests to as well. Valerie made up a lie about neighbors smoking and it coming up through the vents - the rooms don’t have vents.
There is no such thing as a “common area”. Valerie sleeps in the living room because the shared room has no windows.
You will pay a cleaning fee, and you will have to clean and buy supplies for the house.
We had our food stolen 3 times! Imagine having to live with people who steal from you...
She allowed someone to move in with an anxiety ridden dog who barked, growled and nipped - every encounter ( 3 ) I had with the dog was aggressive. First of all, she didn’t tell anyone this woman was moving in with a dog. I found out the morning after she moved in, on my way to the bathroom - this big dog is in front of my bedroom door barking and growling at me at 7am The second encounter was when my partner went to the bathroom and the dog barely let her out of the room, followed her to the bathroom barking and growling, paced outside the bathroom until she came out, followed her back to the bedroom and when my partner thought he was going to follow her in to our room, she turned around and said “ NO” and he nipped at her! Valerie just sat at the table as if nothing was happening!
She walked into our room without notice, she used her key to come in because she thought no one was in the room - My partner was naked.
She kicked someone out at 1am on a Monday morning (June 1st). Because the young man couldn’t hold up to an agreement they made for him to pay a few months up front, outside of airbnb knowing he was interning for the summer - I guess she thought his parents would pay it.
After putting Airbnb on notice of her behavior and being aggressive toward my partner she cut the internet off when she wasn’t home
Valerie has a tendency to put the swing arm security latch (the one that most hotels use) on the front door of her apartment when all the guest happen to be of the house. The last time was a few days before we had to move out and we were outside her door screaming and banging on the door for 20 minutes. She had smoked weed and had fallen asleep with the latch on the door.
I assumed Alexis would write a horrible review with some embellishments because this couple living with me was one of the hardest bookings Ive had. She and her girlfriend did move in w their dog and it was pretty good at first, although after I made sure they had extra spaces to store their kitchen things before their big move to california I started having issues with them being courteous to others in the space including myself. First they took things off my personal hooks in the bathroom and moved them so they could have both of their washcloths on hooks. At first i just moved it back but they kept moving it so I spoke to them and let them know they could get $1 hooks and put them up in the shower area and they were mine not really thinking anything but its very indicative of what lack of respect or courteousness I went through with them. There was one airbnb guest living w me who was in early 20s who did come home and smoke weed in his room and open a window and there is a stoop at the taaffe lofts right under the bedroom alexis and siara rented where people sit and smoke and the trail and smoke does come into the windows slightly in my apartment if you leave the window open. with this being said it was dealt with with that guest and he was extremely respectful even when he took an ice cream bar one time out of the freezer to replace it the next day (it had been in there for 2 mos and he thought someone left it) We even told the couple he wasn't sure if it was theres and he would replace it which he did. They kept insisting I was smoking in the apartment against the non-smoking policy which is just not true. I am buddhist and do burn peruvian wood stick and sage quit frequently while i meditate daily and don't mind not burning it if it bothers people. There are vents in the apartment they are baseboards that go along the bottom of the windows and they travel to both apartments on both sides of me. But this is not a situation where there is tons of smoke in the apartment. Like I said they are over embellishing and seems very vindictive after I did let them as a couple stay in my apartment w a dog! the guest with a dog was not dangerous. There was another airbnb guest here at the time who is very petite and she was not afraid of the dog. Because of Alexis and Siara complaints to airbnb the guest w the dog moved out and i lost a lot of $ for the booking. No Im not concerned with money over peoples safety but they did have a dog themselves and it seemed extremely out of hand and like i said vindictive when I provided them beautiful room. I actually came in the last week and half and slept in my living room because of their outlandish complaints that the dog was dangerous (not that I wanted to do this!!) to make sure i was there to see how to combat any issues. Her girlfriend Siara was always in the apartment (something they never said she would be doing) which is where most of the tension came from because Alexis was never there to see or witness most of what was going on. Her girlfriend worked a few hours for a couple of days may 2 -3 most of the summer because she is a music artist. Yes I do have a hotel lock on the door for when I wanted privacy but that only happened once that I fell asleep by accident and it wasn't because i was smoking weed. HA my neighbor has footage of her girlfriend trying to break into my house where they were trying to bust the door down because of the lock after banging for 3 mins they did this which would of damaged my front door to the apartment as if someone broke in even if they were renting there this was very uncalled for. They refused to contribute to any cleaning in the apartment even though they lived there for 3 mos and didnt even broom or mop their own room while in there as i cleaned it myself when it clearly stated its a share and people have to contribute to cleaning supplies or common area when they live here for longer than a week or for long stays. They actually would fill the tub up w water and ajax on 2 occasions so that other airbnb guest who woke up for work could not use it unless they cleaned out the tub and it caused problems that they would leave nasty notes around for the other guests instead of just speaking to them in an amicable way. now I can see if this apartment was dirty but it wasn't. I found they moved into a share and didnt really want to share with (website hidden) the other airbnb guest who was asked to leave that is not their concern and they were not involved in what we agreed. They wanted to stay longer than their stay ended and could not uphold their end of the agreement so I did not allow them to because I answer to a management co procedure in this apartment not just to myself. As I said even bringing that up when they don't have knowledge of it is vindictive to write it here as a review. It is my home and I do much work in the world to help and this just puts a strain on my airbnb relationship. No one is perfect and people have different lifestyles and habits and it takes communication and understanding sometimes. I would say that the majority of the problems with this guest was her girlfriend not always owning up to her very picky lifestyle and inability to get along with the other guest or even communicate with them and I always had to mediate.
Bon séjour dans cette chambre spacieuse avec un grand lit, un accès à la cuisine, à la salle de bain et au salon... Le métro est à 2 minutes à pied et des commerces se trouvent à côté de l'appartement.
This was perfect for my short stay in Brooklyn. Located in a great safe neighborhood.
My husband and I stayed here a weekend. Val was extremely accommodating. She kept in touch with me a month before our stay to iron out specifics, give directions to her place, etc. so she's really on the ball. She works a lot, so she had her roommate let us in and hand over the keys to us, and everything went off without a hitch. When we entered the room, she'd already laid out towels for us, and the room was really clean, and nicely decorated.
Both the room and the apartment are spacious and the bed is comfy. There's a huge window that lets a lot of light in. The neighborhood is nice and diverse, with a lot of good restaurants. The apartment is quite convenient to the G train - just a block or two away. From the G, you can transfer easily to the A train, so there's easy access to Manhattan.
As a hostess, Val is the nicest person - charming and very hospitable. She's interesting to talk to and has a lot of great stories. She takes the time to get to know you and offer you anything you might need - food, drinks, restaurant recommendations, etc. - even though she is super busy with her job. I would totally stay here again.
Valerie was very welcoming and easygoing. The place is close to the subway and a (very) decent trek to the Brooklyn Bridge. The bed was comfortable.
Valerie, the host, is very nice and made us feel welcome. She gave us lots of tips on where to go locally, like the bakery where we had a delicious breakfast,. The flat is in a good location for getting around (about 15mins from Down Town Manhattan). As most of the time we were out and about, the room was more than adequate for our stay.
