We had a great time staying at Kason Cupid's Home! He truly takes it to heart to make your entire visitor experience convenient and comfortable. The reservation process was seamless and Kason was quickly in touch to arrange the logistics. Upon arrival, Liz picked us up at the airport and dropped us at the house on her way to karate. A pre-loaded cell phone was awaiting us at the house and Kason called himself within a few minutes to make sure everything was ok. We borrowed his white Ford Focus for the duration of the stay, which made the cost of our stay quite reasonable. The car seemed in good shape and we didn't have any trouble with it. The traffic is light and easy going on Barbados, such that it was stress-free even for first-time left side drivers like us Canadians! Otherwise, the home isn't fancy but has everything you need and is very good value for money. The key points for us were: very clean house and quiet environment; comfortable mattress (note however that beds are double size); AC in both bedrooms which makes it comfortable overnight.
A few quick tips: we were very disappointed with the Lime company 3G cell coverage on our iPad (we bought a mini-SIM at the 6 Roads shopping center); perhaps try digicel which we realized is the challenger and may have better performance. It's hard to find fresh fruits and vegetables in restaurants so stock up at the market. Try the Crane beach 7 min. away from the house, but we found the Hilton beach and Miami beach to be more enjoyable. You can just drive in at the Crane to go to the restaurants and access the beach; don't bother with the day-pass you may have heard about.
Above all, go slow and enjoy your time out in Barbados!
Kason was a great and friendly host. He managed to arrange transport for our little group from Bridgetown harbour to his homely Rental in Harrismith. His sister in law, Liz picked us up and dropped us off at the "Boatyard" (Bridgetown Beach Resort) where we could spend the day (they even paid the tickets for the four of us, which was actually too kind) and wait for the House to be ready. Kason was always within reach and very helpful indeed.
The location of the House was fine as well. Since there is a car included, everything is "close by". The House itself was equipped with anything you need. Aircon in the Bedrooms were great. Aircon in the livingroom would have been great though, it was very hot sometimes;-) All in all: the perfect getaway for a very reasonable price! Thanks Kason and Liz
Kason's place was great. A really nice home in a quiet neighborhood. There are a couple of nice beaches within walking distance but you can go anywhere on the island in the free car provided which also comes with a GPS. The free car make's Kason's place the best deal on the island. Also included for free are a cell phone, a land line, and a roku so you can watch Netflix or other things at night or on a rainy day. While we never met Kason he did arrange for us to be picked up and dropped off at the airport by his very nice sister in law. Again for free. We would definitely stay there again.
Don't think we could have asked for more from Kason. The house was functional and had everything we needed for our 2 week stay. Good, and quiet neighborhood. We felt safe walking around. Having a car made this location feasible for us and our 2 year old baby.
The house is pretty much exactly as shown, in a quiet neighbourhood with comfortable beds, good air conditioning and the Wifi works although it can be intermittent. Kason and his friends go out of the way to keep your every want covered. The house is a solid A frame which includes all the appliances you need, like a coffee maker, kettle, microwave, blender and washing machine with a line outside for drying. I was impressed that Kason has put 5KW worth of solar panels on the roof which makes perfect sense in such a bright hot place.
There are two cars that Kason uses as part of his rentals, the white Ford Focus and the blue-green Toyota. We ended up with the Ford Focus which included air conditioning, automatic transmission, power windows and good tires. The GPS, with which we bookmarked all our favorite locations, is indispensable as turn-by-turn navigation on the (website hidden) map app do not work. Beware that gas prices are double on the island compared to North America, so filling the Focus with three quarters tank cost $75CND ($125BDS - $3.25 per litre). Driving is a delight as Barbadians are a courteous and patient bunch, who honk when going around blind corners/hills and as a way to say thank you. Flashing their lights means go ahead. Be prepared for narrow roads with no shoulder and unexpected obstacles like pedestrians, bicycles and goats.
Bottom Bay, one of the most beautiful rugged, if windy, beach on the island is a five minute drive away (take the beach umbrella with you). A shopping centre including grocery store called Emerald City is a seven minute drive and includes a "Lime" store where you can get a micro or nano sim card for $2.50US ($5BDS) and a 1GB seven day data plan for $7.50US($13BDS) which is useful for smart phone internet access. If you do a lot of driving as we did, then you also want some minutes ($0.50BDS/minute) for emergencies. You will want to experience St. Lawrence Gap, Harrisons Cave (with the Eco Tour aka spelunking option, a highlight of our trip! ), one of the gullies like Welchman's Hall or Hunte, the Wildlife Reserve (2pm for feeding time), Oistin's Fish Fry, the Beach Extravaganza at Harbour Lights, walking on the Hastings Boardwalk and the Cheapside market in Bridgetown.
If you are vegetarian, you can eat well off vegetarian menus at all the following locations: Naru on Hastings street (roughly $32US per person with drink, but on the beach! Get the 5pm seating for a sunset), Harlequins on St. Lawrence Gap ($35US per) and The Good Life off Hastings (tiny cafe, $15US per). Most places have shakes and look for a local drinks called Sorrel (red sugary goodness) and Seamoss (tan coloured and great when included with ground flax, almond milk, etc.).
If you need catering or would just like to eat a homemade meal at Kason's house, ask about Angela Hall who is a superb cook and lives very close.
Thank you Kason! The accommodation was exactly as described! The house was clean, in a great location- close to the beach & restaurants, and perfect for our stay! It was an amazing to have the car with GPS! Communication with Kason was quick and concise and have no complaints about our stay- highly recommended Air B&B!
