Clean Calm & Casual Mid-Century Mod

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Kiowa Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90049, United States

Welcome to my clean, calm & casual Mid-Century Modern apartment by the Pacific Ocean. As a seasoned host with over 3 years of experience as a host and traveler here on Airbnb, I've learned how to do it right. Read on, traveler...

The Space

As a host, I aim to provide a clean, comfortable apartment and an easy experience for my guests. I like to think my place is a bit nicer than most, and much cleaner! I make sure all surfaces are properly cleaned prior to your arrival, and you are always provided clean, freshly laundered sheets. Unlike most other apartments one seems to find on Airbnb, mine is not decorated from floor to ceiling in cheap Ikea furniture. There is absolutely no smoking tolerated in the apartment -- or even at the building. No pets either. The apartment is very environmentally friendly -- it hardly ever requires any heating or cooling (though there is an air conditioning system installed, as well as a working natural gas fireplace and electric room heaters installed in the bedroom and living room).

- Furnished in a casual and summery mid-century modern style.
- Approximately 700 square feet.
- Can accommodate up to 4 people comfortably (2 in the bedroom and 2 in the living room on the famously comfortable Aerobed that you can read about in some of my other reviews).
- Features an private outdoor patio
- Working gas fireplace
- Real bamboo hardwood floors throughout.
- Includes a dishwashing machine in the kitchen, a complete setup for cooking, high-speed internet and wi-fi, a large-screen flat panel plasma tv with access to Netflix and Amazon Prime for TV programs and movies. Conveniently there is a washer and dryer in the building.
There is free, private, off-street parking available at the building included with your stay (no extra charge).

- This is a great area if you're a jogger, because you can jog around the nearby Brentwood Country Club. You can also jog directly to the beach (only 3.3 miles from the apartment)

- Literati Cafe is a fantastic cafe just around the corner (2.5 blocks away). Perfect breakfasts and lunches. There are also many vegetarian and vegan dining options around here, though not all within walking distance (I am quasi vegan).

- Ralph's supermarket is just 2.5 blocks away. There is a Whole Foods grocery within somewhat far walking distance, I think less than 1 mile though. There is a Trader Joe's within a 5 minute drive from the apartment.

- There is a CVS pharmacy within 3 blocks from the apartment

Guest Access

Guests will have access to:
• free off-street parking in a reserved parking spot
• laundry machine (coin-operated)
• private patio

Interaction with Guests

I interact with guests as much as you desire. I'm always available by phone, SMS, email, and sites/apps like (website hidden) or (website hidden) Messenger.

The Neighborhood

The apartment is located in the heart of Brentwood, one of the safest neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
Brentwood is generally quiet (it is nothing like Hollywood, Venice Beach, or Downtown LA). It is pretty close to the beach (a 55 minute walk, 15-20 minute bike ride, or 8-10 minute drive in the car). There are many restaurants, cafés, and bars within a short (5-10 minute) walk. You are within a few minutes of Santa Monica, UCLA, Westwood, and Culver City.
- Quick and easy bus ride to the Getty Museum
- Biking distance from the beach (3.3 safe miles with bike lanes or side streets if you prefer).
- 5-minute walk to grocery store
The neighborhood has tons of great restaurants, cafés, and bars, which range from very expensive to very affordable. I've included some of my favorites in the guidebook for the apartment.

Getting around

There are 4 bus routes that stop within a short (5 minutes) walk from the apartment. There are an additional 3 bus routes that stop within a 10-minute walk. With these bus lines, you can get just about anywhere in LA. Contrary to popular belief, Los Angeles has a pretty good public transit system. The metro doesn't come as often as it does in Paris, but if you plan your trip, you can use it to get around quickly and cheaply.

Other Things to Note

Unfortunately due to one bad experience, I no longer take reservations from Airbnb users who do not have verified accounts on the site.

  • My wife and myself stayed at Ari's apartment for 3 months and had a wonderful time. Although Ari was abroad during that time, the communication was fast, friendly and effective. The apartment was exactly as described. The nice kitchen was fully equipped and served all our needs for home cooking. The living room provides a lot of space and made our evenings very comfortable. All rooms were very clean, nothing to complain about.
As I was working at UCLA, the place was very comfortable, as UCLA was easy to reach by car and by public transportation. The neigborhood is quiet and safe. All the shops for everyday needs are in walking distance, as are dozens of interesting restaurants and pubs. We frequently took the short bus ride to downtown Santa Monica for extra pleasure.
Being Europeans, we were not used to have just Internet-(Pay)-TV, but no regular cable-TV. Thus, it was notso comfortable to be up-to-date with the news or to watch "normal" TV.
We are seriously considering to book this apartment again on our next stay in L.A. I can recommend this apartment without reservations

  • We had a good stay in Ari's apartment except for vermin ("silverfish"), old food in the fridge and a hard time getting in touch with him when we needed to find the keys to the apartment. The inconvinience mostly occured after our stay. Ari came with the most absurred accusations in his review of me 15 days after our stay. When we tried to get a hold of him he wouldn't answer for days, neither on mails or on his telephone. He wanted money from us after we got our deposit back and he still hasn't send us any pictures of the so called "mess" we left. I have sent him several pictures of how we left the apartment, which is in a perfectly good condition. He has been very hard to handle and I've never felt so offended before.

  • What a great place to stay! I just spent over a month at Ari's. If you are thinking of booking this lovely apartment don't hesitate! It is everything the listing says it to be. Clean, modern, convenient to shopping, groceries, coffee, freeways, and beaches.

I was in L.A. for work and needed a place to call 'home' for my extended time there. I couldn't have picked a better place. It is just the right mix of comfort and style. With a well appointed kitchen, comfortable bed, charming outdoor patio, and stylish living room to kick back and watch a movie, this truly was a "home away from home". And great water pressure in the shower, a definite plus!

Ari was a wonderful host, checking in and making sure everything was going well. I really enjoyed meeting him!

  • I didn't get to meet Ari in person, which is a shame, as he sounded like a great guy over the phone; and this was also my impression from the various emails we exchanged. He was very easy to communicate with. He was flexible about the check-in and check-out times and the process couldn't have been easier. The location of the apartment is great - quiet, lovely residential street yet close to buses and shops. The apartment itself is fantastic - it looks exactly as in the photos and is super clean. The price I thought was more than reasonable.
I kind of wish I could say something a little less enthusiastic in my review to make it sound more realistic, but I can't think of anything. I highly recommend Ari's place.

  • Ari was an excellent host. Even if we didn't get the chance to meet him, he was very helpful, reliable and available, giving us clear directions by text messages.
The flat is great, very clean and classy. We highly recommend this place in a quiet neighborhood for your stay in L.A.

  • Flat was great - well furnished, immaculate and close to all things great in Brentwood (which are many). Ari was a terrific host. Everything was ready to go and the stay worked out very well. A great place to stay in the middle of LA. Thanks, Ari.

Tech Startup
I originally grew up in upstate New York. In a former life, I've been a professional snowboarder, a teacher of English as a Foreign Language (in Bratislava, Slovakia), and a construction project manager. I lived in New York City from 2000 to 2010 where I primarily worked in film/video production. How ironic that I came to LA and quit that to get involved in a tech startup. My primary pleasures in life come from being close to my loved ones -- particularly my son, backpacking, snowboarding, getting to know all the wonderful people I come into contact with, and traveling. My life motto is to show care and to nurture everyone around me as much as I can according to their needs, but not to the detriment of myself or my dearest family and friends.
