We have just had a 4 night stay in Tamar's lovely apartment. We had good weather mostly, so could really appreciate the great view of the canal and bridge. The apartment is well equipped and cosy, and located in a nice quiet, yet easily accessible, part of town.
Tamar was a great communicative host, although we didn't meet. However all the arrangements went without any hitches.
A fantastic apartment! Thanks Tamar.
We loved our stay at Tamar's lovely apartment! It's located in a quiet and beautiful area, with easy access to stores and sights via a short walk (or ride). Tamar was out of town, but her friend Gijske checked us in and gave us some tips. The apartment is walkable from the train station, but with luggage and an elderly person we opted for the taxi (10 euro). When we were sans luggage, we just walked everywhere, used the bicycles, or caught the bus at the main road. Having two bicycles available was VERY cool. It would have taken a fair amount of time and money to go through the process of renting one from a local shop. Although Amsterdam is bicycle-oriented, beginners would not feel comfortable riding in the streets (better to stick to Vondel Park). As experienced cyclists we had no problems getting around.
We had three people in our party and the apartment had plenty of room for us. The shower had plenty of hot water, the wifi worked great, and the neighborhood was quiet. We enjoyed walking along Realengracht street and zig-zagging our way to the grocery store (instead of taking the more direct Grote Bickersstraat). Look for the yellow submarine in the canal!
Perfect apartment and perfect location. Located in one of the many popular districts of Amsterdam called Harleem with many restaurants, bars and shops.
Probably a 15-20 minute walk to Dam Square and Central Station but if you've ever been to Amsterdam you'll know that the city is built for walking and/or cycling.
We've been visiting Amsterdam for over 12 years and have stayed in many hotels, House Boats and private apartments. For value for money you cannot beat Airbnb and Tamars apartment. We find that quality hotels in Amsterdam can be unjustifiably expensive and, like the weekend of our visit when it was Kings Day or if there is a major conference taking place, they will increase their prices by over 300%.
Nowadays we would always look at Airbnb first before any hotel booking site and in the case of Amsterdam; Tamars apartment would be at the top of our list.
It was our first time; but the bar is set so high after this stay!
We loved everything about the house. Super cozy, great neighborhood, canal view from the bed, two bikes, vaow!
Tamar was out of city; so her friend Gijske welcomed us. She gave every detail that we might need and tried to explain everything. So happy to meet her.
Heating works great; so no worries about getting cold, we did not use kitchen that much but you can use whatever you want if you like to cook etc, very comfy and clean bed.
We loved the neighborhood; it is super peaceful. 20 minutes away from Central Station by walking. This city is best with bikes; so we believe Tamar is doing a big favor by giving us 2 bikes.
We believe the house is way more beautiful than it is being showed here. This place is really good quality.
We recommend this house especially to couples; it has the romantic feeling thanks to great canal view.
We plan to see other cities as possible; but if come to Amsterdam again we will definitely stay here
Enjoy your stay already
We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful view of a canal and house boats. Since we are in our 70's we had to take cabs to all the sites. City Cab provided taxis always with 5 minutes. A couple of good restaurants within a block and three blocks. Groceries available within a brisk 10 minute walk of the apartment. We were welcomed very graciously by the hosts' friend. For the younger set, bikes were available free. Comfortable in the apartment.
I'm so sorry i've missed the term to write a review, as I saw now when i was just about t start writing one. Well i'll leave it here then. As for hosting you and your husband i must say there only compliments in the way you treated the house and my personal belongings. I would highly recommend you and your husband as guest to anybody. As to your remarks down below:
I'm sorry to hear the fan in the kitchen didn't work anymore, i just noticed myself. It was working when i left for a holiday and so i got broken in between. You are right no stuff should have been in the bathroom., as goes for the babychanging set. A family with a baby stayed in the house right before you but it would have been nice it it had been stowed away. The kitchen sink normally has a washbasin in it, so you have no trouble with the tiles, but i guess it was also not there then. It is sorry to hear so many little things went wrong, but great to hear that overall you still had a good stay in our house. Thank you so much, greetings from me and the family
We stayed in Tamar's apartment for four nights with our 21-month old girls. I could not recommend the apartment more highly for those wanting to stay in a charming traditional building, with a lovely view of the canal, but a little off the beaten track, ie, somewhere quiet. In addition, it is really great for those visiting with young children.
Tamar was very communicative and helpful prior to our stay. On arrival we were welcomed warmly by Tamar's friend and shown the apartment thoroughly, even though we arrived quite late due to a flight delay.
The apartment is cosy and charming, with a wonderful view. It was clean, warm, nicely decorated and well appointed with sufficient linens etc. There is ample space for a couple plus two young children, and nice furniture. Our girls loved playing with Tamar's baby's toys which she had kindly left for us. It made a real difference to us to have a cot, high chair and changing mat available.
The location, for us, was perfect - quiet, pretty, on a quiet canal with a villagey feel - about a 15/20-minute walk to the noordermarkt and surrounding cafes. Food shops were about 10 minutes' walk, a nice local restaurant (bickers aan de werf) 5 minutes walk. In addition, we found a petting farm 5 minutes walk away on the route towards the centre, plus a small play park, so our girls were in heaven.
The bikes were really useful and in good working order.
The (smartly decorated) bathroom was a little cramped for bathing children, but manageable; and the kitchen could do with updating (we were told not to use the oven but the hob was ok) but again all v manageable for breakfasts and light meals. And the stairs to the first floor apartment are steep (but wide). In spite of these drawbacks I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to my friends and other Airbnb users and would definitely stay there myself again.
This was our first airbnb stay. We were met punctually by Giskje, a friend of Tamar who was helping as Tamar was out of town. Our communication was good utilizing email as we didn't have a phone. We did have a wrinkle as our flight was cancelled, delaying our arrival by a day. This was handled graciously and efficiently by Giskje.
It was a fairly easy walk of a half an hour from central station. The neighborhood school was fun to (email hidden)e Dutch and their bikes, so much different from the American way. The view of the canal was lovely. The bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom appears to have been recently redone and was also clean and functional.
The kitchen did not seem practical for cooking elaborate meals. The gas cooktop worked fine; however the oven did not function. The nearby convenient market provided us with salads and lovely Dutch cheeses which made for an easy dinner for the night we ate in.
Overall, we had a very authentic Amsterdam stay and felt we received a good value.
