We really loved this place! It felt like home with a fire when we came back from a hike and homemade quiche for breakfast. A great view over the mountains from every window of the house and close to great hike or ski trails. Evelyn is a very warm person and can tell you a lot about the area or just a chat!
We stayed with Evelyn in August, so the landscape was green and lush, a different kind of picturesque from her photo of a snow-encrusted home. Evelyn's home is welcoming, very clean, well furnished and very comfortable. With the windows opened we could hear the sounds of the outdoors as we drifted to sleep.
For anyone who enjoys a good conversation over breakfast, Evelyn is ready to engage you. Along with the other guests, it was a rich and rewarding morning over french toast and coffee.
This is a warm and wonderful place. I hope we are able to return at some point in the future. Maybe in winter!
Royalton B&B is a beautiful old farm house set on a lovely bit of VT property. The host, Evelyn, is warm, friendly, and very flexible -- she goes out of her way to make you feel at home. (As do her family members, if they happen to be around during your visit). Breakfast is cooked to perfection and garnished with friendly conversation from the hostess. The view from the front porch looks like a postcard, and it's a great place to watch the stars, and occasional meteor shower, at night. The B&B is walking distance from a swimming hole and a town center with a weekly farmer's market (email hidden)-op. It's a short drive away from Silver Lake in Barnard, VT, and to the shops and attractions of Woodstock and Quichee (as well as a number of other local highlights). For those looking for a rural retreat, Royalton fits the bill aesthetically despite being a touch close to the highway. However, this B&B's proximity to nearby attractions, its low price, and the flexibility & hospitality of its owner well make up for the occasional sound of a passing car. Highly recommended!
Picture it... Driving down a canopied country road along a bustling rivers edge...turn a corner and pull into this charming weathered farm.. You are surrounded by New Emglands majestic rolling ranges peering down on you on this very special property. Evelyn the host, greeted us with open arms and an open hearth. The home is filled with all the quaintness you'd expect from a home built during the early years of our countries beginnings. Waking up to brewing coffee and fog rising over the surrounding hills is exactly what the Dr ordered for this weary city dweller. My second floor bedroom bosted a big comfy bed and a soothing view of the meadow, which surrounds itself around this home. When night rolls in...the show begins. Fireflies and the sounds of the night inspire you to pick up a book or swing in a hammock on the front porch. Evelyn is the kind of host that makes you feel .. Immediatly, comfortable and welcome. There really wasn't enough stars to express our appreciation... Enjoy!
Awesome experience! Evelyn was an excellent host. We arrived at her home fairly late at night, but Evelyn was at the front to greet us. The house itself is quaint and beautiful. After a day on the slopes (Killington is 45-60 mins away), we had a great conversation over glasses of wine and VT cheese, sitting by the fireplace.
The house is in a relatively remote area, so you should know that.
I can't wait to go back there again.
