This is offered to a single woman, as it is in the home of a single woman (and two lovely Mexican mutts). Breakfast will be self served, but all ingredients are provided. Stay as few as 3 nights or as many as 10. Discount in May in ex. 4 Pet Care.
Welcome to my home! I have lots of room to spare, so have decided to open it up on Airbnb for short stays. When I travel I'll give a deep discount if you'll watch the dogs and plants lovingly.
There will be self-serve breakfast included in the price of the room, when I am not travelling.
Great location in Colonia Guadalupe, we are 2 blocks from Centro, 8 blocks from the Parroquia and El Jardin. You can walk to dozens of restaurants and shops, the artisan market, several churches, open air vendors of every sort, in 16 minutes or less! The organic market, art store, shoe repair, neighborhood restaurants and tiendas are all at your fingertips. The bus stops just 1.5 blocks away. Please note that the address here is 5 B, but it is located next door to number 12, and the airbnb itinerary may say the address is 11-12.
This offering is a nice clean and comfortable lockable Queen room with closet. There is a full bath just for guest use, and a half bath shared. The convenience of laundry machines and products is included, and you can use the huge courtyard and all the common rooms (upstairs and downstairs living rooms, large colorful dining room, and big country kitchen).
You will have all the comforts of home. If you travel with a third person, there is a twin bed in the art studio, that you may rent for just $10 per night more if it is available. Just ask.
You will be living with me and my two friendly dogs, so please, if you are afraid of or do not like dogs, this is not the place for you.
Your room is about 150 sq ft.
There is a huge courtyard where you may smoke, but not in the house. Feel free to eat on the patio at the umbrella table or in the dining room, or at the kitchen counter!
Guests will have access to all the common rooms of the house. There is a large dining room, 2 living rooms (salas), a big country kitchen, a beautiful yard/patio, and even a rooftop with a view...this is as yet un beautified.
Coffee or Tea will be provided, and cereal, eggs, bread, with all appropriate condiments.
The laundry room is shared. Of course, the guest will have their own bedroom, with a queen bed, and a full bathroom. Towels, etc are included. Bring your beach towel if you want to visit the local spas or hot springs! You may not take our linens off the premises.
Smoking is allowed outside only.
Except for May '14, I will be living in the same spacious home with you. There are areas to sit and read, to take your meals, and to sun-bathe.
I can usually be relied upon to take you into town at least once to get you oriented, and show you around. I am happy to answer your questions about San Miguel, and to help you find tour guides if you want to go on guided tours.
Please note, only people who like dogs should take this room, as mine are part of the family.
Colonia Guadalupe is the 'Arts District" of the world heritage, art colony and wonderfully historic small city of San Miguel de Allende. There is an organic market, and many little tiendas/shops in our neighborhood, for fresh tortillas, meats, fish, vegetables and fruits, fresh juices, tacos, etc. In addition, we are only a few minutes walk to the very center of town. Dozens of restaurants, many wonderful shops, the artisan market, and two different huge mercados carrying almost anything you could want.
For around town, you'll most likely want to walk and take the inexpensive taxis. To get out of town, there are wonderful first class buses to major cities. Around town, if you want to bus, it is 5 pesos! Easy Peasy. We are 15 minute walk to the very center of town!
Other than breakfast, you would need to ask for permission to keep food here, or to use the kitchen for other meals. It is likely that this would not be suitable except on an occasional basis.
If you wish to stay longer, it may be possible, once we know each other...just putting a reasonable limit here until then.
Sharyn's casita is the perfect place to stay when in San Miguel de Allende. It is situated in the lovely artistic community of Colonia Guadalupe, just a 10 min flat walk to the jardin in the center of town.
The apartment is clean and well furnished and supplied with everything you need. There is a large patio to relax in and enjoy the lovely weather in SMA.
You would be hard pressed to find a better place in SMA, the Mexican charm is just an added bonus!
We enjoyed our 5-night stay at Sharyn's beautiful house! It provided a comfortable and peaceful retreat after being out and about in the day. It's an easy 15-minute walk to downtown but comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended if you intend to do a lot of walking on the uneven cobble-stoned streets that make up most of downtown San Miguel.
Sharyn was a great host and the apartment was just as described. The bed was the most comfortable we've had in our travels, the water in the shower was consistently hot, and the apartment is within walking distance of the Jardin in the center of town.
We stayed at Sharyn's charming little apartment for a week and loved it- great location, wonderfull hospitality- highly, highly recommended! 10 minute walk to the center of historic downtown
***** UPDATE 08/21/13*****
I received the following email from Sharyn after writing my original review: "What a rotten thing to do. You could have said there was no iron working going on at night! Thanks a lot."
With only one con on the list, I thought the review was incredibly positive; I even gave the place a 5 star rating. Sharyn clearly didn't like what I said so to appease her, I will explain in more detail:
Yes, as the host points out, the iron working shop does not operate at night but it does provide a lovely 8am wake up call each morning. Despite folklore, not everyone who visits SMA is a retiree who gets up at 5am for the early bird special, some travelers like to relax and sleep in on their vacations - hence the point of honest reviews. Also, it's kind of hard to sit in the beautiful courtyard during the day and enjoy the perfect weather to the noise of welding and steel cutting. Furthermore, the iron worker has two shop dogs that hang out on the second floor patio and they bark incessantly day and night at everyone that walks by. The street backs up to a dry river bed and then another neighborhood. If the shop dogs aren't barking at any given moment, you can bet that one (or ten) of the dogs from the neighborhood behind the apt will be barking. If not a dog, then probably a rooster (they don't just crow first thing in the morning either, folks). There is a foot path along the river bed that runs right along the back of the apartment, this can get traffic at any time and it is literally less than 2 feet from the bed, directly on the otherside of the bedroom window. So sometimes you will be in bed and hear voices that sound like they are right next to you.
Bottom line - Mexico is loud, if that bothers you then you will have too seek out certain neighborhoods that are either farther from Centro or mostly expat.
ALL of that being said, we still really liked the apartment. So much in fact, that we extended our stay by 2 nights. Also, we are planning a month long return visit to San Miguel and were going to check on this apartments availability but after the immature response to our original review, we will be giving our business to someone more (website hidden)- I mentioned "helpful host" in the original review but it's important to point out that Sharyn was out of town and her friend Linda was filling in for her. Linda was wonderful.
-perfect size for 2 ppl
-fully equipped kitchen
- great courtyard
- loud neighborhood (like most of Mexico), there is an iron worker's fabrication shop right across the street.
Sharyn's house on the edge of Santa Cecilia is great. From the beautiful roof garden, one looks over a grove of wild cactus, San Mighel nestled in the mountain folds in the distance. On the warmest days, the shaded terrace and breeze were delightful. The courtyard of the house, front and back, provide a sense of both authenticity of the place, and a peaceful haven after a busy day in town. The kitchen (I love to cook) is also great, well appointed in every respect. Wireless internet is fast.
Stepping outside the house at first reminded me of the scene from "Being There" when "Chauncey Gardiner" steps outside his secluded world into the backstreets of downtown Washington, D.C. A dirt road down to Benito Juarez, a long hard-scrabble and cobble-stoned stretch in both directions. But buses are regular and will stop to pick one up into or out of town. It's an easy trip. Dodgy at times with a dog! Some buses and taxis said "Yes," others, well, they went right by without a second thought. One night coming back into Santa Cecilia in the dark, on a bus to San Luis Rey, a local man looked down at Matisse (a miniature Violet Shar-pei), seated next to me in the aisle and asked in Spanish, and in real wonder, "Is that a DOG?" Clearly, Matisse was out of everyone's immediate context.
The house is bird song during the day, and a country cricket chorus in the cool evenings, with the Milky Way a spray of stars North to South in the blue-black sky. An intrepid delight.
Sharyn is a great hostess. She is most helpful in getting settled and a bit acquainted with San Miguel de Allende. It seems we are on pretty much on the same page on most subjects so I wish she had not left on her vacation so soon. The apartment is everything I expected and more. I recommend any of her accommodations with no hesitation.
What an amazing place. A small slice of luxurious living in SMA; complete with a rooftop deck perfect for overlooking the beautiful city, having meals, working on your vitamin D intake, and the wifi works up there as well! Sharyn is an extremely courteous host. Recommended
We stayed in Sharyn’s suite for 6 weeks. Enough positive comments cannot be said about Sharyn and the accommodations. The suite was beautiful, CLEAN and fully functional. When we arrived we found the makings of a few meals in the fridge along with bottled water and pastries. This was wonderful to find after traveling all day and you are tired.
We felt completely safe at all times. The neighbors were friendly and helpful.
We are both 60 years old and found the location perfect for us. We took the short level walk to Centro area every day and it was the highlight of our day. If we wanted to catch a bus or taxi it was a two-minute walk to the end of our street. The wait was only a few minutes before one or the other came. The cost was extremely reasonable, 5 peso’s for the bus and around 30 peso’s for a taxi. A corner grocery store is a three-minute walk. The Saturday and Monday local produce markets in the neighborhood offered high quality and very reasonably priced products. The weekly maid and gardening service were excellent.
Sharyn’s accommodations in San Miguel come highly recommended by us and we are glad we had the opportunity to stay there. We would definitely stay again.
We booked a stay with Sharyn for our trip to San Miguel de Allende and were surprised to find the house is outside of town. We had (website hidden)d the address but didn't realize that (website hidden) was giving an incorrect location until the night before when we were given specific driving instructions. The neighborhood is not actually in the city limits of San Miguel de Allende and does not have any of the charm of the town. We were extremely disappointed by the isolation and quality of the neighborhood, so we decided to stay in town instead. If you plan to stay here be sure to understand where it is and if you are ok with the location it is probably a lovely place to stay.
