Interaction with Guests
As much as possible or invisible if you want. I will try to meet with arriving guests and show them the area. Whenever guests need information or recommendations, I am always available via messaging or phone.
The Sheung Wan neighbourhood is ever changing and a fantastic mix of "old' and "new" Hong Kong. This apartment is located in the heart of Hong Kong's commercial, cultural and shopping districts and within short walking distance to the subway and HK Macau Ferry Pier. A few minutes walk away from the harbour front and the fantastic Sun Yat Sun Memorial Park and Public swimming pool over look the world famous Victoria Harbor.
The Sheung Wan MTR station is but 8 min walking distance away that takes you all over Hong Kong and Kowloon. There are also buses, trams, minibuses that run near the doorstep of the building on Des Voeux Road West Road and take you to every corner of the island and beyond.
Other Things to Note
Once you arrive in Hong Kong, everything is quite simple and all starts with a call from the FREE phones at the airport located in the hall immediately after you pass through baggage customs. There is also a Visitors Center there if you would like to pick up some maps, local travel guides, etc. to read on your way to the apartment. If you need a local SIM card, there is a 7-11 in the middle section of the main arrival hall where they see all types of SIM cards, I usually prefer the PCCW brand as it is the larges local operator.
This is a Strictly NON SMOKING Flat.
UPON ARRIVAL AT PROPERTY, ALL GUESTS MUST WAIT FOR ME AT THE FRONT GATE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. BUILDING RESIDENTS WILL COMPLAIN TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT IF THE LOBBY AREA INSIDE BUILDING IS BLOCKED. THANKS FOR YOUR KIND UNDERSTANDING FOR AN ENJOYABLE STAY.
Check in time is AFTER 12:30 pm. Make sure to contact us by phone at least 30 minutes prior to arrival such that we can meet you at the flat to hand you the keys and acquaint you to the surroundings. As this is a family business, please try your best to arrive at the apartment as early as possible. After 11:30pm as transport to the apartment is limited for us, we have to charge HKD150 to cover our taxi transport cost to and from the apartment. We are generally exhausted at the end of the day and we really would rather you arrive early and not have to charge this.
Guests must wait for us OUTSIDE the building upon arrival and not enter the building without us as this causes unnecessary misunderstandings with the property management and residents of the buildings.
Check out time is STRICT at 11:00 am. NO EXCEPTIONS or you will be charged for an extra full day. Our cleaning crew will arrive at 11:00 am to service the flat for the next guest, thanks for your cooperation.
Please help us save the environment by turning off electrical appliances when leaving the apartment or not using them.
Water heater needs to be turned off when not using. If it breaks due to prolonged time left on, you will not have any hot water for your stay and will be subject to expensive repair charges.
In the case that you have an evening departure flight:
Please note that you can check in your luggage at anytime during the same day as your flight at the Hong Kong Station Airport Express, which is only a 5 minute taxi or bus ride from the apartment. That way you would be free to explore the city on your last day, not having to worry about your luggage or rushing to the airport since you have already checked in, you will not have to be at the airport as early as everyone else.
All airlines flying from Hong Kong airport offer In Town check in, EXCEPT the following:
Jetstar Asia Airlines
Overall this is a good place for the price. Hong Kong is an expensive place and many of the rooms are so tiny that you do not even have a window or room for your suitcase. This place has more room, a fan, AC, refrigerator, sink, and a bathroom that has been re-tiled recently. The photos that AirBnb took make the room look very "new" looking. In reality, it is not very fancy and does not have a "new" feel to it, but it does the job for the budget. Brend is pretty good with communication, responding to emails, and gives a wealth of good suggestions for travelers. He is very generous with information about what to do on your trip, how to use local transport, how to get to airport, etc. I like staying in Sheung Wan. I stayed in about 6 different areas of Hong Kong in one month, and Sheung Wan is a little further from the hustle and bustle of other areas, but in reality it is just a few subway stops (or tram or bus) away. Take the opportunity to explore Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun areas - there are good restaurants and bar areas to explore. The HKU and Kennedy Town areas are worth exploring too. There is no view (other than of the next building) from the room, but there is some natural light that comes through the windows. The airbnb ad says that this apt is only 1 min away from the Sai Ying Pun MTR. This is true, BUT in reality it takes about 10 mins brisk walk from the apartment to get to the MTR (there is a long tunnel and series of escalators you must walk through to get there). This is not a big deal, but if you are looking for a place where you can hop on and off the MTR more quickly, just don't plan on getting on the MTR within 1 min of leaving the apartment. Ask Brend for advice and he might be able to help you figure out if the tram (trolley) or the busses are a more quick option for you.
At the end we chose to stay in the slightly bigger room - which fits 2 people perfectly. Key point is the cleanliness! Everything is very clean and no cockroaches etc.
Bathroom and shower are great, quick responses from the host, good cleaning service, air con works perfect (except a little noisy), easy and helpful check-in! Lifts also available in the building and close to MTR station too!
Probably the only negative feedback is the walls are a little dirty and few cracks but not a big problem!
All in all, happy with the apartment and price! :)
Great neighbourhood. Really close to Centre Street. Has a 7Eleven and Welcome nearby, also very close to the Sai Ying Pun wet markets and lots of little vege stores. Tidy small room and owner was very accommodating and flexible which was very appreciated in my time of homelessness. Bathroom is newly tiled which was nice.
Good communication before and during our stay. We stayed for two nights and good value for money, the bathroom had been renovated and was very clean and tidy. We had hairdryer, iron, towels and toiletries. Great location and its on a quiet street, near metro and center.
I was overall a bit disappointed with the experience. This is a quantity over quality sort of business that's being run. The space looked smaller than advertised, you should know that you'll have a max of about 3 1/2 minutes hot water at any given time, it was a bit noisy, the space was cold and to make matters worse Brendan offered a late checkout but the cleaning service showed up earlier than promised and forced us out of the apartment - it was a bit jarring and I also had some communication issues where Brendan did not respond to messages in a timely fashion (or at all). The location was good and quite central but after three days I was itching to get out. Check this place out for a night or maybe two if you're one person - otherwise would skip it.
