The Space

Wonderful double room plus sofabed in typical apartment in typical building of sixsteenth century (Palazzo Caracciolo di Gioiosa) located in the historic center of Naples, that is adjacent to the cathedral. The apartment is on the fourth floor with the elevator, and it has a large bathroom with the bath, and the kitchen.
The room is just the first window in the main photo!
We are in the middle of Decumani, in the heart of the pizzerias way, near museums, restaurants, bars, metro stations and bus stops. The very advantageous location, and the neapolitan hospitality, will make your stay a wonderful, delicious and unforgettable experience. We are waiting for you in the Southern Italy's capital to introduce you to all this beauty!!!

  • I've struggled with how to review my stay here. The location is great, probably the best thing about the booking. The room is huge and very nicely decorated with beautiful antique furniture (the entire flat is really nice looking and well decorated actually). All that being said though, I never really felt welcome. In fact, I felt more like a burden than a guest. There were some issues with my arrival - I missed my first bus and then got the time wrong on the next bus. So while I planned on getting to Naples at 11:00, I got there at 17:00. However, I was in constant contact with Gianni, letting him know what was happening along the way. He wasn't very kind about the situation, at one point sending me an email in all caps to "just tell me the correct time!". Look, I get that it's annoying. It was really annoying for me too, I only had that one day in Naples. But this kind of stuff happens when you are traveling, and as a host, he should be more flexible. In addition, I asked him for directions and he responded to look at the confirmation for directions .... ok. But the directions just tell you to get to Via Tribulani. Not a whole lot of help. I finally get to Naples and after a few wrong turns, I make it to San Gennaro. Ring the bell, no answer. Ring again, no answer. Finally, some neighbor takes pity on me and lets me into the courtyard. I climb up to the apartment and again, there's no answer. He's clearly not there. I tried to call the phone number provided and the number is wrong. So, I ended up sitting on his steps waiting for maybe 20 minutes. No apologies when he shows up. Once he lets me in, he can barely be bothered to show me around. I'm guessing he was a little frazzled, but after our earlier exchange, it was just the icing on the cake. A few things about the listing - the bathroom is shared, not private. No biggie, but that's not clear from the listing. The listing also says there is a lift...there is, but pretty sure it hasn't worked for a while. Lastly, Gianni's listing says he speaks English, but I don't think he does. His emails seem pretty much straight from (website hidden) translate and he didn't speak any English with me. Again, not a big deal. I don't speak Italian - but I also don't list myself as speaking Italian. So, would I recommend staying here? I don't really know. Like I said, the location can't be beat (and the price is right). Maybe other Airbnb hosts have set the bar too high (this was my 14th AirBnB stay), but the hospitality was seriously lacking. I guess if you aren't expecting too much help from Gianni, and just want a fairly cheap room in a great location, then you'll be ok staying...

  • Gianni was a very polite and friendly guy during all days in Naples. He helped me with informatios, taxi to the airport and I coul cook dinner. I really recomend his room.

  • Gianni's place was nice and clean. It is on a great road in naples; right on a fantastic street. He had a selection of breakfast things and snacks for guests in the kitchen. The only thing that was a challenge is that a neighbour's dog started to bark at 5:30 to 7:00 am. But this might have been unusual. Anyway it encouraged us to get an early start on exploring the city.

  • It took us a bit longer to get to the apartment than it probably should have but we made it. The building is very secure and we felt safe during our stay. Gianni met us at the apartment and showed us our room, the bathroom and kitchen. He also stays at the apartment and rents a number of rooms out. It was perfect for our one night stay in Naples. We had a nice balcony and the room was spacious and clean. The apartment is in the heart of the city so it was a bit noisy but ok.

  • We had a very warm welcome from Gianni. Although the lift wasn't working Gianni came down to help us with our bags. Be sure to take his advice on restaurants - they were superb. The location of this Airbnb is easy to reach and very central. Wifi works which was important to us. Gianni is a very pleasant host and always ready to look up information of how to get where and the best way to go. We had a great time.

  • I spent one night in June 2014 at Gianni Mario's apartment which is about 10-15 mins walk to Napoli Centrale train station & the Metro Garibaldi train station. I only met Gianni Mario very briefly and he was very kind to help carry my heavy suitcase up the stairs - thank you! My room looked like the pictures, including the view of the Saint Gennaro statue outside my window.

  • Despite how chill and laid back Gianni was, you can definitely tell that he knows how to run a hostel. This is like no other hostel, either. He owns the top floor of a building with 4-6 rooms that he rents out to travelers like myself. I peered in all the rooms as we walked by and was able to observe how ridiculously clean and comfortable each room was. The kitchens and bathrooms (there are 2 of each) were extremely well-stocked, and Gianni pretty much made us feel like we were at home. Upon our arrival, he provided us with a map and wrote down all of his recommendations for us (food, coffee, sites). He even called a cab to pick us up on the morning of our departure, since we did not have an international SIM card to make calls (nor would we have known how to reserve a taxi in Italian). I highly recommend Gianni's place :)

  • Very good location, right in the heart of Naples, in a very lively street full of local specialities : tasty pizzerias, café bars with delicious pastries, ice cream places, street vendors, etc...the place itself is super clean, a large apartment with several rooms, 2 kitchens and 2 bathrooms which guests can use. Good wifi, plenty of stuff for breakfast, and Gianni is a very good host. He gives you a map and suggests places to see and where to eat etc. we spent two nights there and will certainly go back when in Naples. Highly recommended!

  • I had a good time at Gianni's. I didn't see him again after I checked in but the rooms and bathrooms were clean and he always had the kitchen stocked with fresh pastries. Be warned, this is Naples and it does stay somewhat loud at night. There were a lot of steps to climb up to get to my room and I don't think a working elevator existed. Besides that, the only other issue I had was the wifi - it was incredibly unreliable and would stop working about every minute or so.
