The Space

  • I got the Bintang room at Matahari, it was really spacious with big windows and flooded with natural light in the day. Overall I enjoyed my stay, staff were very friendly and helpful, location was great, room was cleaned every day but I think it could use some work to improve the building condition. Special thanks to staff Ary who was very accomodating and attentive to all my queries and requests.

  • Friendly and efficient staff, kept the room nicely clean, the area was quiet, felt secure. Jalan bisma is a lovely street with restaurants and rice fields. Easier with a bike but not essential. Happy with my stay overall ;-)

  • the location is wonderful. it seems to live in a real temple! clean rooms and very good breakfasts. hosta kind and alwaya at disposal for every needs. suggested to all!

  • A nice place to chill out. Keep in mind that it's not air conditioned though, which can be an issue during the hotter months (like April to June) in Bali. During my stay, it was nice and cool, due to the room having an amazing view of the lush jungle, but oddly, not that many insects (and very surprisingly, no mozzies).

    The Bintang room itself is nice, rustic and spacious, more than enough for a couple, with space for an extra bed even perhaps. The toilet is fine except that the floor tends to get wet due to the design.

    Staff are friendly, and very helpful, and best of all, available 24/7.

  • Jaya Bungalows is good value for money for your stay in Ubud, with hardworking and friendly staff. The rooms are clean (cleaned daily) and the bed was large and very comfortable. The mosquito net was also a great addition to ensure a bug-free night.

    The location is down a quiet road, so you are away from the Ubud traffic, but it does mean a bit of a walk in the dark to get home in the evenings (obviously solved with the numerous and cheap taxis in Ubud).

    On a hot day the lack of a swimming pool is not really an issue, since one of the hotels very close lets you pay to use the pool for a small fee (20,000 Rp).

  • The staff were fantastic and eager to help us arrange for transportation and sightseeing tours. We get a ride from them in the hotel car down to Sanur and forgot our camera in the car. They were happy to return it to us, even though it is a 2 hour drive and they had just gotten back to Ubud. Thanks so much guys!!

  • Matahari is (email hidden) ! Very well located in Ubud with a beautiful swimming pool and a nice breakfast !
    Everybody was very nice to us and was helping for a lot a stuff (finding a taxi driver etc...)
    I recommand you to go there !

  • I was not happy staying at Matahari Cottages. The staff is lovely and very friendly, but things went wrong for me on so many levels, so I decided to find another place. First of all, the rooms are more rundown than what the pictures show - or that was a least the case with the rooms Jupiter and Bintang. When I arrived, they showed me to Jupiter room first. The room smelled heavily of sweat and male perfume, and then I also found hairs on the bed sheets. And the room had bad lighting. I complained and was then shown to Bintang room. This room seemed a bit better, but I found hairs on the bed sheets again! So they changed the bed sheets and everything seemed fine. I then found out that the bathroom had a weak pink lighting and I could almost not see a thing. I asked them if they could improve the lighting and they did. Other things that I was not happy about was that the mosquito net over the bed smelled of other people who have slept in the room. And I also found out, when I was arranging the mosquito net, that the headboard of the bed was sticky of dirt. The daily cleaning was not very good either. I asked them if they could sweep the floors, but was disappointed to find out that the same dirt was still on the floor, when I came back later that afternoon. Breakfast is not worth mentioning either. The breakfast menu that they showed me was sticky and dirty and the food I had was ok. But at this point I had some many doubts to their hygiene, that I chose to have breakfast other places in town. The door to Bintang room can not be closed properly from the outside either. There was also considerable noise during the evening from the pool bar next door and the motorbikes in the reception area. I don't mind that the place is rundown, but I do care that the place is clean. The best thing about this place is that it is close to Bali-Buda restaurant. Maybe I was just unfortunate, but I would not recommend this place to anyone :( There are so many other places in Ubud that are cheaper and more clean.
