About this listing
Isn't it the greatest feeling when you're traveling (especially internationally) to know someone in the place you are going to? That is how I want you to feel when you stay with us. You have a friend in Minneapolis! Now with chickens!
Come and enjoy our world famous hospitality, the cutest dog you'll ever meet, whatever fresh garden produce happens to be in season, and easy access to many popular Minneapolis/St. Paul sites!!
What you can expect:
1) An ubercomfy bed (on the softer side) and clean bathroom
2) Great urban location
3) A welcoming, peaceful space
I love Minneapolis and am excited to share it with you! Or if you want some peace and quiet I won't make a peep and will just show you the necessities.
This house is perfect as a home base for guests here for: business, school, sightseeing, road-tripping, visiting family/friends
Not good for: romance, non-dog lovers, those who don't like an urban environment, people who don't like sharing
Pros: Great central location; cutest dog ever; cozy space; all the comforts of home; friendly and accommodating people
Cons: old house (creaky floors, thin walls, bedrooms on the small side), on a main street so you hear some traffic, sharing the space with myself, husband and roommates who are coming and going throughout the day,
You will have a private bedroom where you feel as though you have stepped into Paris! A guest has described the double bed as "heavenly." The bedroom is on the second floor with two other bedrooms and the bathroom.
You will have access to the bathroom which is shared with my husband and myself. I do have a friend of 7 years who lives in the basement who I myself rarely see as she works a lot and she has her own entrance to the house. You are free to use the kitchen and there is space in the fridge or cupboard for any necessities. I have two bikes that can be used and there are NiceRides (bike rentals) close by. You are free to use the dining room/living room space, as well.
There is a bus stop on my block. This bus connects to downtown, Uptown, and the light rail which can take you to the airport, Mall of America, and lots of other wonderful places!
My dog Molly is tons of fun! You can pay as much or as little attention to her as you like. We have chickens now - no eggs quite yet but soon!
We are world travelers and speak Spanish and French fluently and welcome stories, new cultures, and new foods!!
Our house is over 100 years old but it is fixed up about as nicely as can be, so adjust your expectations accordingly :)
Is there street parking? Yes, lots of unrestricted parking
Is there a bus that goes to the Minneapolis Convention Center in downtown? Yes, it passes right in front of my house and takes about 15-20 minutes
How much is a cab from the airport? ~$40; Super Shuttle is cheaper; bus is a bit complicated but even cheaper!
***I give you lots of information about myself and my household in my profile to make you comfortable with staying in my home, so please do the same in your profile before requesting a reservation so I know who I am welcoming into my home. Some verifications and reason for your visit are required**
Kitchen, two bathrooms, dining room, living room, hammock, garden
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like. We are generally home when guests are here, except for work hours.
Our neighborhood is diverse, lively, urban, and well-situated. Neighborhood is pretty standard working class. Not affluent or particularly special itself. It is residential, so closest restaurants are about 6 blocks away; closest grocery store is two miles away.
If you are driving we are 3 blocks from interstate 35, 15 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from downtown
Public transport doesn't get easier: on the 11 bus route to downtown; express bus to downtown is 3 blocks away
Other Things to Note
This is our home, not a hotel. Therefore, there will be no exceptions to the following guidelines:
-No reservations will be accepted on behalf of another individual or group. The person listed in the profile and making the inquiry must be staying.
-My husband or myself will meet all "check-in"s personally to acquaint you with the space no earlier than 4 PM and preferably before 9 PM. Late arrivals can easily be accommodated. Early arrivals can usually not be accommodated due to our work schedule. When you "check-in" you check in your person AND luggage together. Luggage cannot be dropped off earlier than "check-in" time. There is nowhere to leave it if no one is home.
-Checkout is no later than 12 noon
-No smokers allowed. Obviously no smoking in the house, but I also don't want smoking on my property
-All members of the party must check in at the same time; only one house key will be given
No exceptions to the above. All rules are for everyone's benefit. If for some reason you are not able to comply with any of the above then unfortunately we won't be able to accommodate you.
Definitely no smoking
Please turn off lights/AC when you leave the room/house - we try to be as environmentally responsible as possible
Please recycle and compost whatever you can, for the above reason :)
Please be quite during sleeping hours - keep in mind that walls are thin and you really need to keep your voice down as the room next door is occupied.
No shoes in the house.
Christie and her husband were very kind and helpful, the house was immaculately clean, and the room was cool and comfortable. I couldn't possibly ask for more!
Christie was a great host. As much as I like dogs, I was worried about living with a dog due to noise and mess. This was not an issue at all, their dog didn't bark, and did not make any mess. The room was very comfortable, and I never had issue getting a parking spot. Definitely recommended.
Very nice, warm and welcoming. House was just what you need at a B&B. Would definitely recommend
It was a fantastic experience! They have a very nice, warm welcoming home. Their dog Molly could be the most lovable and well behaved dog I have ever met. The room was cozy and it was a great location in the city. I had rented a car and never had any problems with finding a spot to park.
Christie and her husband, and their dog Molly were all very warm and friendly. The listed room was clean, well organized and accurately described. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. The whole house is tidy and (website hidden) in Feb can get very cold, but the house was kept warm. Many great eating locations could be found within a few blocks from the house. It's a tranquil and safe neighborhood, yet in a convenient distance between the airport and Minneapolis city center. I highly recommend Christie place!
Christie was very warm and welcoming when we arrived, as well as throughout our stay. She was also very respectful of our space and did not "hover", rather opting to let us come and go as we pleased. The house does look a little different than what the pictures may suggest, but overall, a very comfortable stay :) Also, Christie allowed us to use her kitchen and fridge when we wanted to make a meal. The house is in a great location (Uptown) and there are tons of things to do in every direction! Definitely had a great stay!
Also, Molly, the dog is AMAZING. Probably one of the SWEETEST dogs you'll ever meet.
Christie was a delight and very friendly and willing to chat to help my experience be homey!
The room was very warm, the bed was very comfortable, and she gave me lots of space in refrigerator.
If you are nice she will give you free eggs from her chickens. Yum.
I loved her dog Molly we became buddies.
All in all relaxing
Space to stay
Thankyou so much
About the Host, Christie
I'm a Minneapolis transplant from Wisconsin where I grew up. I went to school in Minneapolis for 9 years (biology and then dentistry). I am now a dentist and have been for nearly two years. I work with mostly special needs patients and the elderly. I work four days a week in different nursing homes and assisted living communities.
My husband Wilger and I bought this, our first house, in 2009 and completely remodeled it.
I love to host and make people feel as if they are at home with all the little conveniences and more! I have travelled quite a bit and my best travel experiences have always occurred when I stay with people who are familiar with the area. In the past two year I've been to Ecuador 10 times with my husband. I've also lived in Senegal (naka nga def?!) and Guatemala, traveled to Bolivia, Mexico, France, El Salvador, Honduras, and Costa Rica and aspire to travel much more. My greatest travel experiences have been with people who know the area. I'm totally willing to pick you up at the airport (if my schedule allows), give you tips on the best places in the city, maybe even take you there :)
I love to play with my dog, get addicted to tv shows, garden, exercise, travel, read, and learn new languages.
The most recent movie that I have seen was Argo and I loved it!
The most recent language I have tried to learn is Portuguese because I want to travel to the World Cup in Brazil to watch Ecuador win!
I used to compete in inline skating marathons
I love dogs! I've always had English Springer Spaniels (including my current dog Molly)
I love wine and cheese (Moscato and goat gouda at the moment) and am always looking for someone to share a cup and a slice with!
