Studio cottage in the heart of North Park. Quiet street and very close to 30th & University and great breweries, shops, restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and more in North Park and other surrounding neighborhoods like South Park, Normal Heights, Hillcrest, and others.
Favorite spots in the neighborhood include: Caffe Calabria, Carnitas' Snack Shack, Balboa Park, Bottlecraft, Underbelly, Modern Times, Tiger! Tiger! and many more. In the cottage you'll find a binder with a detailed list and information for your stay.
Cottage has a full kitchen (stove, refrigerator, etc.) and comes ready to do your culinary bidding. Glassware, cutlery, plates and bowls, and pots and pans are ready for your use. Refrigerator has ice and water dispensers for cool, filtered drinking water.
Enjoy the DecoBike bike-share program, MTS bus, or walking to explore North Park. We are in a wonderful neighborhood for biking and many great attractions (zoo, downtown, restaurants, etc.) are within pedaling distance.
Living area has a 42 inch TV, stereo with surround speakers, and two large bookshelves full of books you can borrow or take with you - help yourself! Closet next to bed has bar for hanging clothes and there are baskets that slide under the queen bed for shoes, bags, or other storage.
Location is well served by bus transit, but if you're looking to venture to farther areas of San Diego you may want to rent a car since many parts of the region are car-centric. (Street parking is safe and very easy to find.)
The cottage is professionally cleaned after each stay so you can be sure you'll have a clean, comfortable, relaxing stay.
Our home is on the same lot as the cottage so during your visit you may meet our family. We're fun, like to have a good time, and are generally good neighbors. We hope you have a great trip to America's Finest City.
Check-out is 11 AM and check-in is 4 PM.
I use an automated pricing tool, so please let me know if you'd like to stay but need some help on overall price. I'm happy to help. :)
The entrance to the cottage is via a path on the side of our house. The path is for exclusive use by guests and has lights for use at night. We have key code access to the cottage to allow for guests to arrive and depart on their own schedule.
Street parking is very easy and there are no permits needed, time limits, or other restrictions.
Interaction with Guests
We have two small children so don't often have time to share drinks or a meal with guests. We do enjoy sharing our wonderful city with visitors from near and far and are happy to answer questions, share recommendations, and otherwise help to make every visit a great one.
North Park is a great urban neighborhood. There is a lively arts scene and many locally owned businesses. You'll find craft beer breweries, yoga studios, coffee roasters and cafes, and businesses of all kinds throughout the neighborhood. It's very walkable and safe, with good walking and running opportunities in nearby Balboa Park and the trails located there.
San Diego is not a transit-oriented city, as is the case with much of the U.S. West Coast. However, our neighborhood is well served by bus lines and the DecoBike bike-share program make it quite easy to get around to many sights including Downtown, beaches, and many great neighborhoods nearby like Little Italy, Hillcrest, South Park, and others.

I absolutely loved staying at johns place! In all honesty I think John has probably set the bar pretty high for the rest of my stays on Airbnb.
I had an early morning flight into San Diego and John was very accommodating by letting me drop my bags off to the cottage whilst the place was being cleaned. I went and had a look around the area and He let me know as soon as the place was ready so I could settle in and unpack.
It's a very cosy unit with everything you could need. A folder explaining how everything works, full kitchen (which included spices and miscellaneous kitchen utensils to use). A welcome beer and chocolate were also nice touches.
The bathroom was great and had the best soft and squishy floor mats (I want some of these for my own place) and lovely soft towels!
The wifi was excellent and helped pass the time when I wasn't out sightseeing.
The cottage is at the back of the property with your own side entrance. It was so quiet that I slept in both days. John has 2 kids but you wouldn't know. It was just so peaceful. And the neighbourhood is just lovely and I felt so safe.
It's only a couple blocks walk to the funky suburb of north park with some great cafes, bars, restaurants and some yoga if you like. I liked the candlelight yoga :)
The bikes were also great as it was an easy way to explore balboa park which was only a short ride away (although you do have to ride through a pretty steep valley, but only once).
Honestly, I didn't want to leave. It was just so homey and John was more than helpful in answering any questions I had. Thanks again for letting me stay. I hope to come back one day and hopefully stay again!
I did not meet with John when I arrived the house. His wife welcomed us and showed us the cottage. It was warm.
I bring my 2-years little one so they asked whether we need a small bed for my kid. They are very kind people.
The cottage is very nice and quiet. There are some restaurants within walking distance.
Overall it was a perfect service.
John is such a great host. I'm not sure where to begin. There was beer in the fridge. He offered us some delicious chocolate. The place was very clean and there was a folder filled with recommendations for San Diego. If he has an available spot open I suggest you get it! Overall the hospitality was incredible which just made the trip to San Diego even more amazing. Highly recommend.
It was a wonderfull cottage which had all necessary things! The neighborhood is very quiet and everything is reachable within 10-20 min by car. John and his family were so nice and the hospitality was unbelivable! They helped us all time if we had some problem or questions! Best place in SD!
Was as everyone describes. You have to drive to all of the various attractions (or uber) regardless where you stay so it's nice to have a place of your own with free and easy parking as a home base. Mind blowingly simple experience. The owners are super hospitable and I would absolutely stay again.
While we never saw John, he was quick to respond to texts and gave us all the information we needed. His cottage near Balboa park was incredible. It was neat, tidy, and very welcoming. I loved the beer he left upon arrival and even purchased more of the same to take home to share with my husband. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
