A private cottage in the heart of North Park, San Diego's most vibrant urban neighborhood. Near to Balboa Park & Zoo and many cafes, bars, and restaurants nearby. Two complimentary bicycles for guests to explore further and enjoy the weather here.
Studio cottage in the heart of North Park. Quiet street and very close to 30th & University and great breweries, shops, restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and more in North Park and other surrounding neighborhoods like South Park, Normal Heights, Hillcrest, and others.
Favorite spots in the neighborhood include: Caffe Calabria, Carnitas' Snack Shack, Balboa Park, Bottlecraft, Pizzeria Bruno, Tiger! Tiger! and many more. In the cottage you'll find a binder with a detailed list and information for your stay.
Cottage has a full kitchen (stove, refrigerator, etc.) and comes ready to do your culinary bidding. Glassware, cutlery, plates and bowls, and pots and pans are ready for your use. In the fridge you'll find two of our wonderful San Diego beers to welcome you.
At your disposal during your stay are two 7-speed bicycles, complete with helmets, rear rack, and locks. Please note that there a $300 loss penalty so if you'd like to use the bicycles please take care to lock them at all times. We are in a wonderful neighborhood for cycling and many main attractions (zoo, downtown, etc.) are within pedaling distance.
Living area has a 42 inch flatscreen TV, stereo with surround speakers, and two large bookshelves full of books you can borrow or trade for - help yourself! Closet next to bed has bar for hanging clothes and there are baskets that slide under the queen bed for shoes, bags, or other storage.
Location is well served by bus transit, but if you're looking to venture to farther areas of San Diego you may want to rent a car since many parts of the region are car-centric. (Street parking is safe and very easy to find.)
The cottage is professionally cleaned after each stay so you can be sure you'll have a clean, comfortable, relaxing stay.
Our home is on the same lot as the cottage so during your visit you may meet our family. We're fun, like to have a good time, and are generally good neighbors. We hope you have a great trip to America's Finest City.
Check-out is 11 AM, check-in is 4 PM (but somewhat flexible on check-in time).
The entrance to the cottage is via a path on the side of our house. The path is for exclusive use by guests and has lights for use at night. We have key code access to the cottage to allow for guests to arrive and depart on their own schedule.
We have two small children so don't often have time to share drinks or a meal with guests. We do enjoy sharing our wonderful city with visitors from near and far and are happy to answer questions, share recommendations, and otherwise help to make every visit a great one.
North Park is a great urban neighborhood. There is a lively arts scene and many locally owned businesses. You'll find craft beer breweries, yoga studios, coffee roasters and cafes, and businesses of all kinds throughout the neighborhood. It's very walkable and safe, with good walking and running opportunities in nearby Balboa Park and the trails located there.
San Diego is not a transit-oriented city, as is the case with much of the U.S. West Coast. However, our neighborhood is well served by bus lines and the bicycles provided for guests also make it quite easy to get around to many sights including Downtown, beaches, and many great neighborhoods nearby like Little Italy, Hillcrest, South Park, and others.
John A.'s place was a wonderful get-away retreat for us. He was very welcoming and the micro brew in the fridge was a nice touch. The place was peaceful and quiet yet so close to a plethora of fun places to eat and hang out. We would love to come back sometime soon!!
Great apartment in a fantastic location. John was a really nice guy and very helpful. Would definitely stay again.
Had a great time! Cottage was cozy and private. Great place for a quick getaway. Host brought my GF some chocolate, very cute touch!
We absolutely loved staying in John's cottage! It was the perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary. John had heat recommendations for things to do in the area and the bikes were great for getting around! We look forward to staying again in the future!
Quite a cozy cottage. We enjoyed our stay and the location was close to many attractions.
We'll be using it on other visits.
A very convenient location and a very clean, comfortable place to stay.
We appreciated John's hospitality and the little gifts on arrival.
We will definitely try to stay there again when we next fly in to San Diego.
John and his family were wonderful hosts! We arrived to a clean and comfortable cottage, and the location proved to be ideal for exploring downtown, the waterfront, and of course, Balboa Park and its surrounding neighborhoods. We took the bicycles out several times and they were a fantastic way to discover San Diego. The town is not the most bike-friendly (yet), but John gave us some helpful navigation advice to make it easier for us to get around. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a place to stay in San Diego.
Great location. Very walkable and safe neighborhood with plenty of restaurants nearby. John was very welcoming and was available if we had questions. Space was comfortable and the bathroom had all the amenities you could think of (if you happened to leave anything at home). We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
I stayed on 1/17/14 for one night
It was a pleasure to meet John, made me feel at ease right of the bat. The cottage was just what I wanted/needed, every amentity you could ask for and privacy. Fortunately for me, John and I share a affinity with specific kinds of fermented beverages. John spoke of some places nearby, if I found myself parched.
In my pursute of finding the best tasting beverage made, I had to try the suggested options. I was quite pleased & subsuquently I ended up sleeping in the next morning.
I would recommend this place to anyone. Would definaty stay again.
Super location in North Park near the epicenter of 30th and University, an easy stroll to the cash-only breakfast place, the other famous breakfast place, the nightspots, the carne asada fries, the yoga studios and even Balboa park. The cottage itself is indeed cute and cozy. Perfect for a getaway. Tucked away in a neighborhood of beautiful Craftsman architecture.
John and his family are lovely, and he even welcomed me with a couple of delicious local brews in the fridge. I definitely would love to stay here again!
