Schruns is a beautiful corner of the world. In winter we have a marvellous choice of skifields offering alpine skiing, snow shoeing and lang-lauf, also lang-lauf on the felds around the house and to connecting villages. In summer mountain biking, cycling, wandering and hiking are all easily accessible. Our village offers many drinking and dining options to suit all.
My accommodation is the top floor of our house. It has one bedroom with a kingsize bed and two single beds in the open space between the bedroom and the sitting area. This area sleeps and caters for 4 people.
The small dining sitting area is equipped with a fridge, kettle, Nespresso machine, toaster, egg cooker and all sundry equipement to drink, prepare and eat cold meals.
Access to the dachboden is by inside stairwell.
As this is our home I will be in residence.
In the cellar I have a laundry available for use for a nominal charge - 5 euros a load - ( All care no responsibility) also a small exercise room if you need to do some exercise ( all care no responsibility ). There is also an infra red cabin - 5 euros a session - in the laundry to ease the aches after a day on the ski field.
There is parking space for two cars on my driveways.
I am a short 8 minute walk on flat paths from the centre of the village. There you will find all the restaurants and bars that will cater to every desire. We also have 3 supermarkets for all your daily needs.
All requirements for a happy and safe stay are available... local produce, Doctor, Chemist, Dentist, Hairdresser, retail shops.
8 minutes in the other direction from the house is the public swimming pool complex with many choices of swimming pools. There is also mountain bike hire available. In winter the Activ Park becomes an indoor ice rink with skate hire available.
The driving range, and 9 hole golf course is nearby and accepts all current golf registrations. Our resident golf Pro is available for private lessons.
There are several outlets for ski and board hire in the village, at base stations and on the mountains.

Vorarlberg Ski Resorts
Austria’s western most province of Vorarlberg features six family friendly ski regions offering great skiing on- and off-piste, high altitude ski touring and well-maintained trails for cross country skiing and winter walking. Vorarlberg has plenty to offer discerning skiers and boarders - traditional Austrian hospitality in pretty villages, good accommodation, a consistently good snow record, efficient lift systems, well groomed pistes, plenty of off-piste and easy transfers by road or rail from a choice of airports.
Vorarlberg ski resorts are invariably cheaper (and quieter) than better known ski resorts elsewhere in Austria. Après ski mostly involves an umbrella bar or sun terrace on the mountain which appeals to families with young children and groups of committed skiers looking to maximise their time on the slopes.
The pretty Bregenzerwald region in northern Vorarlberg lies between Bodensee (Lake Constance) in the west and the Arlberg and Tirol to the east. There's 259km of downhill skiing and 93 ski lifts between (phone number hidden)m, best of which is in Damuls-Mellau (89km), Warth-Schröcken (66km) and Au-Schoppernau (44km). These three main ski resorts are mostly served by fast chairlifts and connected by regular free ski bus service. There's skiing and boarding for all abilities including off-piste, ski touring and over 300km of cross country skiing (including 66km on mountain above 1,000m) and 200km of well prepared winter walking trails. Bregenzerwald is a thriving tourist destination both in winter and summer.
Ultimate Ski Guide to Bregenzerwald Montafon
The Montafon ski region in southern Vorarlberg has glaciers and 80 peaks over 3,000m. There's 219km piste skiing between (phone number hidden)m mostly on Silvretta Nova, Hochjoch, Schafberg and Golm and 57 ski lifts carrying 90,320 riders per hours. Most pistes are blue (109km) or red (78km) with comparatively few black runs (32km), but lots of opportunity for skiing off-piste, great ski touring, three Snowparks, around 30 mountain restaurants and 144km cross country skiing.
Ultimate Ski Guide to Montafon
The Brandnertal region in the south western corner of Vorarlberg has 53km of family friendly piste skiing between (phone number hidden)m and on two mountains served by 14 ski lifts carrying 20,200 rider per hour. There are ski lifts from the adjacent villages Brand and Bűrserberg as well as a cable car and a blue piste connecting the two mountain ski areas and a free ski bus running between them. There's also 27km of cross-country skiing.
Ultimate Ski Guide to Brandnertal Klostertal
Klostertal is situated west of the 13km long Arlberg tunnel and home to family friendly ski area of Sonnenkopf and pretty Stuben am Arlberg. There's 64km of piste skiing in total, 39km on Sonnenkopf and 25km on the Abona at Stuben, which is connected by ski lift at Rauz to the much bigger St Anton ski area and by free ski bus to Lech-Zűrs. Better still, the off-piste skiing in Stuben, which includes the lift accessible uninterrupted 1,000m vertical Albona north face, is challenging and highly regarded, and stays largely untracked long after St Anton gets skied out by locals.

Ultimate Ski Guide to Stuben am Arlberg
Strictly speaking, the ski resorts of Lech-Zurs and Stuben are situated in the province of Vorarlberg, but better known as part of the Arlberg and neighbouring Austria's most celebrated ski resort, St Anton - the border between Vorarlberg and Tirol runs right past St Anton's Ulmer Hűtte mountain restaurant. The villages of Lech and Zűrs attract a mostly sophisticated cosmopolitan clientele and have many excellent 4-star and 5-star hotels. But the Arlberg is best known for great skiing and boarding, with 283km on piste and masses of challenging off-piste.Ultimate Ski Guide to Lech-Zurs
Ultimate Ski Guide to Stuben am Arlberg Kleinwalsertal
The Kleinwalsertal in north east Vorarlberg, close to border with Germany, has 61km of piste skiing between (phone number hidden)m, mostly red (33km) and blue (21km) runs on three mountains served by a total of 30 ski lifts carrying 32,830 riders per hours. Kleinwalsertal has three ski villages - Riezlern, Hirschegg and Mittelberg
Nearest Airports to Vorarlberg.
Getting to the Vorarlberg is easy via Zurich, Friedrichshafen, Memmingen and Innsbruck. The advantages of flying via Zurich include numerous scheduled flights daily and more choice of airlines as well as good road and rail connections. Transfer distances vary depending on which Vorarlberg resort you are visiting, but distances from the airports to Bludenz in the heart of the Vorarlberg are as follows:
Getting to Vorarlberg by rail
There are fast Inter City trains from Zurich and Innsbruck to Bregenz (for Bregenzerwald), Bludenz (for Montafon and Brandnertal) and Langan am Arlberg (for Sonnenkopf, Stuben am Arlberg and Lech-Zurs) with easy onward travel by private taxi to all destinations - ask your hotel to arrange the taxi for you. For Montafon change trains at Bludenz and catch the local Montafonerbahn railway to Schruns.Check train times at SBB (Swiss Rail) or OBB Austrian Railways.
Airport transfers to Vorarlberg ski resorts
There are fast motorway connections most of the way from all of the above mentioned airports and you can easily drive from those airports to any Vorarlberg ski resorts in approximately two hours or less. If there are two or more of you travelling it's often convenient and no more expensive to rent a car, but if you prefer not to drive there are plenty of transfer companies to choose from.
We spent fantastic time at MJ's house. She makes a big effort to make it a home away from home! Small details like chocolates here and there (handmade mmmmm), weather report, fresh bread in the morning, natural jams, the list just goes on and on. MJ has a big heart, very hospitable and house is full of love, positive energy and history. By the way the place looks much better in real life than on the pictures. There is an XXXL king size bed, big bathroom, parking and all you need. The stay at MJ,s place can't be compared to any 5star hotel.
I really hope we will come back again soon. If you go to Schruns this is the place to stay. Thank you for making our stay in Schruns an unforgettable experience!
Mary Jane was more than just a host. Also the appartment exceeded all our expectations; very tastefully furnished, very clean and the right spot to relax after an intense day on ski. We always felt welcome, almost like being at home. Thank you Mary Jane for hosting us. We'd definitely love to come back.
MaryJane is special. Very heartwarming and thought of every detail. And she makes chocolate! :-)
The bed was very good!
I hope to comeback in the nearby future, and i definitely recommend her!
Mary Jane is really a good host, nice and lovely :). She has everything you can need to feel like at home. The house is clean, the room is big, the breakfast is excellent, the location is good. Looking forward to come back!!
Mary Jane is such a nice and lively person. My girlfriend and I spent two nights at her house and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The room is really cosy and has a big king size bed.
MJ does everything with love even for smallest details. She even printed out the weather forecasts every morning for us.
The house is good located for skiing close to the Hochjoch Bahn.
Whenever we decide to spend some days skiing at Schruns we will try to stay at Mary Jane's again.
Mary was the best host we ever had!!
Absolutely a lovely and cosy place with a lot of atmosphere !
Mary was unbelievable friendly helping us out with everything we could even think of! Showing us Bus timetables and even letting us cook in her high end kitchen ;)
Thanks a lot again Mary! we real enjoyed staying at your Place !!
Thank you so much MaryJane... I was sick and didn't make it to Schruns. But MaryJane took care of my friends and they really, really enjoyed their time. They were impressed of MaryJanes's super friendly character. She is an awesome host. Friendly, always smiling and a wonderful personality. Her house is very cozy, nice - it's just a pleasure to stay with her. Everything is close by but it's also a good origin for longer hikes . You really should stop by when you are in this area. Next time I come to Schruns I will stay with MaryJane. Thanks again :)
I cannot find appropriate words to describe the pleasure we have to stay at MaryJane's house. She is the greates host I ever meet in our travels, there is nothing you can think of which is not prepared for you in advance...
There is a whole floor for the guesting family, with a spacy bedroom (the giant bed is twice bigger than a royal couple could need...), and separate space with two additional beds (suitable for two kids), a living room with everything you need for tea, coffee, meal or whatever. Very large bathroom. Fast WiFi.
The house itself has very special atmosphere of a great, real home, full of family history, care and love. Fantastically equipped, by the way... Not to mention its great location in the area with a lot of hiking trails and walks for all levels of difficulty.
And once again -- a great host.
