Cute room in 100-year old house. O'Keefe and Merritt stove in the kitchen, big back yard with a Weber. We are walking distance to the BART, major bus lines and hip Temescal restaurants, yoga, and vintage shops. Fun and funky...in a good way.
This is a really great old house, built in 1915. There are bay windows, a clawfoot tub, coved ceilings, period light-fixtures, a 1940's stove in the kitchen, etc. The house has a lot of music and art happening. The room has hardwood floors, a bay window and a regular bed. No
futon! One wall has mirrors, which can be covered with a curtain, or exposed, if you feel like dancing! We are queer and trans friendly. We are gluten-free. We are vegetarian and vegan friendly.
Guests have access to a shared living room, Wi-Fi, a TV (no cable--streaming Netflix and Hulu), the bath, the kitchen and the large backyard. If guests need to use the laundry in the garage, we can make arrangements. Guests also have access to three really awesome cats: Mr. Panther, Artie Hot Pants and Kit-TON (who is shy and may not come around). There is pretty good street parking.
As a long time resident, I am very knowledgeable regarding fun and unusual things to do in the Bay Area, especially Oakland and SF. I can help you find all sorts of activities (not just the tourist traps)--and help you figure out how best to avoid traffic snarls.
The house is very conveniently located. 3 blocks to MacArthur BART and the Emery-go-Round stop, two blocks to the AC Transit 1 line and 4 blocks to the AC Transit 51.
If you want to jam, we have a guitar, a ukulele, a fiddle, a viola, and some other instruments.

We had a great experience staying. Rachel was very friendly and made us feel at home, thanks!!!
Lovely stay. The house is very well located for Temescal, which is a really cool neighbourhood. Rachel and Tilly are great fun and very easy going.
Rachel is a kind and welcoming host. She made sure I was comfortable with a heater, space in the refrigerator and arranged parking for me. My room was spacious, the wifi fast and the his-and-hers bathroom was handy. I enjoyed the company of a very cute cat and dog in my room, but you can always shut the door if you prefer privacy. The neighborhood is good, safe and very walkable. I enjoyed the nearby restaurants for lunch and dinner. A very nice place to stay!
Rachel is a very nice and friendly lady.
Rachel was a great host and the place is in a very convenient location for food, coffee, public transit, etc.
Rachel is pretty super! The room was nice, with a comfortable bed and useful desk. And a convenient bathroom. House is in a great location too.
Rachel and Tilly were very welcoming. I felt totally at home during my stay, and they set aside space in the fridge and freezer for me to store things for me. They were quiet at night so my sleep was undisturbed. The house was very conveniently located near a BART station with frequent service to San Francisco. All in all, I'd highly recommend Rachel's place to anyone thinking of staying in the area.
Erika and Tilly were great hosts. Warm and friendly, and welcoming from the first moment I walked in the door. The neighborhood is great, easy to get around, plenty to do... Worth a venture!
Rachel was an amazing host, super friendly and made us feel at home. Her house is in a great location, with tons of amazing restaurants, bars and coffeeshops within walking distance. Definitely ask her for food recommendations, she gave us some that were unbelievable!
Wow..... My first airbnb experience and I am so glad that I ended up at Rachel and Tilly's. A very cool mum and daughter with no false airs or pretenses. Great conversation and when I needed something, very forthcoming. I've made a new friend, a real one, and I can't recommend her enough.
The metro is a 5 min walk away and it was a piece of cake to head in any direction. Nice cafe's, and a wide variety of restaurants from, Japanse and Korean, to Ethiopian and Eritrian.
It was my first time staying in Oakland, after previously staying in SF, and I much preferred the vibe...earthier and grittier, but I never felt unsafe.
