About This Listing
Our beautifully restored colonial home has been decorated with objects from all over the world. It consists of 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and is comfortable for 6 guests, with plenty larger spaces to be together as well as intimate spaces to be alone.
This beautiful 400 year old colonial home is on one of the best streets in the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, just 1.5 blocks from the "Jardin" or main square.
The house includes 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms:
The master bedroom is on the ground floor and has a king size bed and a fireplace. The master bathroom is en-suite and includes double sinks and separate tub and shower.
The guest bedrooms and bath are on the second floor. One has a queen size bed and a lovely balcony overlooking the front patio. The other has two twin beds, a desk, a balcony plus a tree-lined private terrace with two lounge chairs.
The guest bath has double sinks, a large tub/shower combination, a toilet and a bidet.
There is a central stereo system with speakers in the main entertaining areas. Just plug in your iPod or MP3 player and you are all set.
The house has a living room, library and dining room each with a fireplace. There is also a morning room off the kitchen. The third bathroom is located just off the morning room and very close to the pool. This bath also includes a shower.
The kitchen is very well appointed and has a large commercial range.
There is an outdoor "sala" (living room), an outdoor kitchen with gas grill and an outdoor dining area.
The house has a heated pool located in a very private and sunny patio just a few steps away from the outdoor kitchen and dining area. This area is perfect for year-round outdoor entertaining.
The roof terrace has spectacular views of San Miguel and the mountains beyond.
The house is staffed with a maid 6 days a week and a part time pool/garden man. In addition to keeping the house clean, the maid can cook one meal a day. Groceries are not included but she will do the shopping for you if you would like.
The entire house with the exception of the staff and storage areas.
Interaction with Guests
We are not normally in San Miguel when our house is rented, so our personal interaction with guests will be minimal. However our household staff works six days a week and our manager is always available by cell phone to answer questions. I am also available by email or phone, should a guest need additional help.
The house is located in the colonial center, just 1.5 blocks from the "Jardin" or main square. The best shops and restaurants in San Miguel are just steps from the front door.
We have created an Owner's Guide to San Miguel for our guests which lists our favorite shops and restaurants as well as other information. It is in PDF format and is sent once a booking is confirmed. A printed copy will be in the home as well.
This is mostly a walking town. Taxis are also available at a very reasonable rate.
Other Things to Note
It is the custom in San Miguel de Allende to tip the maid 5% of the total rental amount a guest pays. Just as you would do in a restaurant, you can adjust this based on the service you receive.
The pool can be heated, but it is an extra $175 US Dollars per week to cover the cost of the gas. You can decide to heat it only certain days, and the rate will be prorated at $25 US Dollars per day and charged accordingly. Please let us know before you arrive if you would like it heated for your arrival. Otherwise, you can coordinate with the house staff.
Check-in is between 3 and 5pm. If you need to check-in later, we can arrange to have someone to meet you. If you need to check out before 9am, we would need to arrange to have someone meet you at the house to get the keys, lock up, and set the alarm. Whether it is a late check-in or early check-out, we ask that you tip the person meeting you $20 US Dollars or $250 Pesos.
While we allow pets, we do need to approve their size and number. We charge an additional pet deposit and renters are responsible for any damage caused by their animals.
Smoking is only allowed in the outdoor entertaining areas. Please do not smoke inside.
Our complete house manual is included on this listing. We also send a PDF version after a booking is confirmed. Please refer to it for further information about the house or feel free to send a message through this site and I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
Terrific renovation of an older shell in the center of town, just as close as you can be to the Jardin, or main square. Fantastic rooftop views. The house is beautifully decorated and planned and all mod cons considered. The kitchen is particularly well equipped and you can really cook here. Very firm mattresses. Staff friendly and very thorough. Very quiet despite its central location.
Probably not the best house for folks with limited mobility, excessive drinkers, or small children as there are a ton of steps and some very narrow doorways and stairs. Then again San Miguel is a very challenging town for mobility-impaired people regardless - the cobblestones will kill you, lol.
Owner (Rob) very accommodating, communicative, and helpful. The house has been planned and equipped to make a house party in SMA very easy. Lots of nooks and crannies for people to hide away in to read or chat.
From the first point of contact to the very last touches, Rob and his staff at the lovely casa in San Miguel were just perfect! The Airbnb description is highly detailed and accurate, yet could never sufficiently prepare anyone for the beauty of the house, the in-depth attention to detail and responsiveness of our host, nor the exceptional relaxing experience we had staying in this home. The house staff is also incredible - always checked with us to make sure had what we needed to enjoy ourselves, and keeping the whole property looking immaculate and inviting. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer on this trip - but we will be back in a heartbeat as soon as we can.
Rob's home is absolutely stunning. Although the pictures here are beautiful and thorough, nothing can prepare you for opening the door to his beautiful home. It was absolutely perfect. Rob and his entire staff were incredibly hospitable, quick to respond, and took care of everything we needed. We spent a few days in Queretaro after our time in San Miguel, but if we could do it all over again, we would've stayed at Rob's home in San Miguel the entire time. We hope to return again!
We liked our stay at this house for three main reasons: location, staff, the house itself and its furnishings. The house is a short walk to many great restaurants, to the Jardin, to a good grocery store, to the Biblioteca and the Instituto Allende. The house had a great maid (Viki) who provided us with all the services we needed. She would have shopped for groceries but we prefer to do that ourselves, learning more about the local culture. She did make us wonderful breakfasts. The gardener maintained the beautiful plants and flowers, and the pool. Most of all, the house is wonderful and comfortable - beautiful and interesting artwork, ceramics, and tiled walls and floors. We will be very happy to be able to stay here again. Rob was always available via email with answers to questions. He provided a good house manual and a good guide to the town - recommendations for restaurants most of which we tried, and we liked them all.
Truly a stunning Colonial home in a fantastic location. We enjoyed the beautiful furnishings, multiple fireplaces, and lovely pool and dining areas. Despite its proximity to the main square, the home and surroundings were quiet and peaceful. Viki greeted us warmly, kept the home immaculately clean, and cooked us delicious meals (accommodating a vegetarian among us, too). Rob was very responsive to our questions and the home was stocked exactly to our specifications upon arrival. San Miguel's finest restaurants and sights are all within a short walking distance making this an ideal vacation location. We have already recommended it to our friends. Higher speed internet would be welcome to make communicating with work and home more effective. We hope to return soon!
I appreciate Cathryn's kind words about our home.
I just want to clarify that we do have high speed internet (5 megabytes per second) which is plenty for streaming movies and working online. However, the telephone company in our area has been having problems for the last few weeks and this unfortunately affected the service during Cathryn's stay. The problem is fixed now and should not be an issue in the future.
Thanks again Cathryn for bringing this to our attention.
