Charming private upstairs bedroom in a beautifully remodeled mid-century home with a bird’s-eye view of our award-winning urban farm in Southeast Seattle. A quiet, natural paradise close to vibrant Columbia City and the Light Rail.

The space
Lovely, light-filled upstairs bedroom in a beautifully remodeled mid-century home and award-winning urban farm in Southeast Seattle. The bedroom has a bird’s-eye view of our backyard orchard and chickens and shares common spaces with the main house (entry, living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc).

The aesthetic of the room shares the spirit of the rest of the home -- natural, low-impact, non-toxic, and artistically composed with as much natural and salvaged material as possible.

The room can be rented for “test nights” for potential customers wishing to purchase an Organic Latex bed from Soaring Heart Natural Bed. This incredibly comfortable natural bed also features an organic wool topper, organic wool comforter and all organic cotton sheets from Soaring Heart.

In addition to the amazing bed, there is a large writing desk with a comfortable workspace and access to wifi. Just downstairs through the stairwell library, on the main floor, is access to the main bathroom with a luxurious deep tub and European-style handheld shower.

On the main floor is also the living room and other common spaces that are shared with the hosts. Kitchen use is a possibility, as well as use of our historic piano or other musical instruments.

The house is owned by a ceramic artist and permaculture designer, and both the room and the surrounding gardens reflect that sensibility. The house has been on Seattle Tilth’s “Top 25 Urban Farms Tour” for several years and guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens.

The front yard features an edible food foraging garden, a beehive, a massive trellis for climbing edibles, and a lovely strolling/seating area. The backyard has a mature orchard, a sunny deck and patio, our chicken coop, and a fully-functional outdoor shower with hot and cold running water.

Guest access
The upstairs room shares the front door entry with the rest of the house. We will provide a key for use during your stay. You will have total privacy in the room, and you are welcome to share common spaces and hang out in the gardens and use the outdoor shower.

We have two dogs, so our place is great for people that love dogs.. The small one is a rescue and is slow to warm up to people. She may even growl at you the first couple of times you enter the house. However, if you ignore her completely, she will adjust to you. The dogs are not allowed in the upstairs room, so please keep the door to the room shut at all times.

There is ample on-street parking near our house.

Other things to note
We are fortunate to live in a very diverse part of the city, and enthusiastically welcome guests from all backgrounds - PoC & LGBTQ folks especially welcome.

Indoor bike storage space is available.

Musicians are welcome and a variety of musical instruments are available.

Disclaimer: Our house has three bathing options, the European-style tub on the main floor, the amazing outdoor shower (we use it even in the winter months!), and a lovely river-rock shower in the downstairs space. However, because we also rent the downstairs unit through Airbnb, the latter is not available when the downstairs is rented.

Location

Seward Park, Seattle, Washington

Although Airbnb mistakenly maps us into Mount Baker, our house is actually much closer to the vibrant Columbia City Neighborhood.

The heart of Columbia City is an easy 15 minute walk away (most of the walk is through a park!). The area is packed with many fun bars and restaurants, an independent movie theater, music venues, a co-op grocery, a Carnegie Library, and a fantastic bakery.

Additionally, the house is just three blocks from a walking trail along beautiful Lake Washington. From our house, the trail extends south 1.5 miles to Seward Park's old-growth forest and north 1.5 miles to summertime swimming at Mount Baker Beach. We are surrounded by parks, soccer fields, running trails, bike trails, and easy access to the city.

During your stay
We will be around most of the time to help with anything, but want to respect your space. The room is totally private, but you may bump into us in the common spaces or out in the yard. Also, please note that the room is right over our bedroom and we tend to go to bed and wake up early. Please limit noise after 10 pm.
