A light-filled cottage-style house is set atop wooded hillside bordering Marin Open Space preserve. There are large-pane windows, high-beamed ceiling in main room which gets flooded with light throughout afternoon and early evening. Wood-burning stove in main room.
There are two sleeping areas: lower level with sleeping nook (queen size organic futon mattress and natural featherbed on tatami mats) and child's room on main level with twin loft bed (organic latex mattress).
Front porch and back deck for dining on warm evenings. Home was built in the 30's and has been recently remodeled, but retains quirky and rustic elements. (Ie. there is no Viking stove and the wood floors are older and well worn) -however, there is a claw foot tub in bathroom, a nice size and comfortable L-shape (natural fiber) couch in main room, and a fully stocked kitchen with healthy cooking materials (cast iron skillets and oj press, wok, etc)
Skylights in decent-sized kitchen. In the main room, the windows are very large and single-paned ( this was built as a vacation house) so can get chilly on cool nights. There is an electric freestanding heater and wood stove keeps things toasty if you keep it burning. ( with Eco-friendly log)
The trek to the house is up a path with about 70 steps (although there are flat stretches) however, should be in shape (without heart issues) to do these. Once you reach the door, your view is private and set in the treetops-birds and stars in the evening. (we have a telescope for star gazers)
The aesthetic of this house: asian influences with lots of textures/natural/rustic elements mixed in. There is a wool Flokati rug in the main room, flor multi-colored carpet squares in the child's room and the rest of the home has hardwood/tile.
Corona avenue is just up the hill from the Lagunitas creek, just off of sir Francis Drake blvd. House is walking distance to Arti's organic Indian and Lagunitas general store. Biking distance (1.5 miles) from Samuel p Taylor Park and cross Marin biking trail.
Approx. 6 miles to Point Reyes. Perfect location to visit Olema, Nicasio, Bolinas, Roy's Redwoods, Tomales Bay and all of Wesr Marin. Local and organic dining in Point Reyes Station,, Olema, Fairfax, Forest Knolls, Inverness...
We are about 40 minutes from SF
In summer there is plenty of fresh food and produce available: you have the Pt. Reyes farmer's market on Saturday mornings, and Wednesday is the charming evening farmer's market in downtown Fairfax. Close by local organic shopping at Good Earth Market and Cowgirl creamery for artisan meats/cheese
Parking is below at street level in designated parking spot-on gravel. Road is curvy and single-lane, so on the rare occasion two people meet, the car closest to a turnout must back put and let the other pass. This is a dead-end road so only three houses are up the hill beyond this one.
Safety with wood burning fireplace a must. We only use clean burning duraflame or java logs in our stove.
Quiet enjoyment and respect of furnishings and household goods requested. This is our home.
Wonderful home en route from SF to Point Reyes. Location is perfect for those looking to explore the ~140k acres of Point Reyes and the Golden Gate National Recreation area.
The home itself is located in the hillside affording amazing views and immersing oneself directly in the old growth forest.
Great common area with big windows providing a good view day and night.
Excellent Indian restaurant ~2 minutes away with a number of other dining and grocery options 15-20 minutes away in Fairfax and San Anselmo.
The cottage was charming and the large windows had a great view of the nature around the cottage. We stayed over the rainy thanksgiving weekend, but the house was cozy with the fireplace and heater going.
The cottage is up a steep drive that can be a little tricky, and it can take a bit to park in front of the house. We had two cars, but we managed to fit them with a bit a maneuvering. It's only a few minutes away from town which is really convenient.
It's also very close to Point Reyes which has great hikes, beaches, and nature.
Overall a relaxing experience to retreat and be out in the woods.
Natalie's cottage was one of the most charming homes I ever spent a night in, through airbnb or otherwise. The setting in the woods is beautiful, with easy (driving) access to Pt Reyes and Samuel P Taylor parks. The deck is a particularly nice spot for hanging out. It's a simple, rustic place, with just a cozy little nook for a bedroom, but everything is functional, with nice details like good ceramic dishwater and warm lighting, and it's very easy to feel at home. Natalie was a lovely, easy-going host as well when we met her briefly at check-in.
We had a lovely time in the treehouse! The kitchen was well-stocked, the beds were comfy, and the place was just the right size for us. You can't beat the location either; lots of hiking just a short drive away and very close to Point Reyes.
Natalie was such a lovely host and made for a spectacular weekend getaway in the woods! She accommodated our timing, left out information for the surrounding area, and mentioned we could help ourselves to whatever was in the kitchen. The indoor and outdoor spaces of the 'treehouse' were amazing and where we ate all of our meals and enjoyed our wine. We certainly hope to be back soon for longer next time!
WOW! What an incredible place. From the moment we arrived we felt "at home" and knew that the people who live in this wonderful home were indeed special. Each space we encounted - both interior and exterior - were magical: From the light coming in to the divine living room to the clawfoot tub with a view a of redwoods soaring above our heads to the hammock amongst the trees. Natalie was a most gracious host, every communication with her was as if communicating with a good friend. At the end of our stay we knew we wanted to come back as often as possible. We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to stay in Natalie's home.
Natalie's place is everything that you could hope for! It's bright, quiet, well located, elegant and it has a great amount of charm to it.
Natalie is a wonderful host and will do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
We had a lovely stay and we will surely recommend this place to all of our friends.
And I will miss terribly Blacky the cat, the most loving little cat ever!
My husband and I are film artists and educators. We relocated to Lagunitas in West Marin two years ago after spending 10 years in Los Angeles ( i completed my master's at calarts) We decided to move north after an artist residency at the headlands center for the arts. We love the ocean, the smell of bay and eucalyptus, sunlight in the late afternoon and the fog rolling in. We live on the edge of the woods with our 7-year old son, Eli-who loves the coho salmon, stellars jays, old-growth trees, and red foxes--who sometimes wander across our deck. We are brand-new to airbnb and hosted our first guest this past weekend! (June 10th)
