Charming cottage "treehouse"

Treehouse - Entire home/apt · Corona Avenue, Lagunitas, CA 94938, United States

The Space

A light-filled cottage-style house is set atop wooded hillside bordering Marin Open Space preserve. There are large-pane windows, high-beamed ceiling in main room which gets flooded with light throughout afternoon and early evening. Wood-burning stove in main room.
There are two sleeping areas: lower level with sleeping nook (queen size organic futon mattress and natural featherbed on tatami mats) and child's room on main level with twin loft bed (organic latex mattress).

Front porch and back deck for dining on warm evenings. Home was built in the 30's and has been recently remodeled, but retains quirky and rustic elements. (Ie. there is no Viking stove and the wood floors are older and well worn) -however, there is a claw foot tub in bathroom, a nice size and comfortable L-shape (natural fiber) couch in main room, and a fully stocked kitchen with healthy cooking materials (cast iron skillets and oj press, wok, etc)

Skylights in decent-sized kitchen. In the main room, the windows are very large and single-paned ( this was built as a vacation house) so can get chilly on cool nights. There is propane heat and wood stove keeps things toasty if you keep it burning. ( with Eco-friendly log)

The trek to the house is up a path with about 70 steps (although there are flat stretches) however, should be in shape (without heart issues) to do these. Once you reach the door, your view is private and set in the treetops-birds and stars in the evening. (we have a telescope for star gazers)

The aesthetic of this house: asian influences with lots of textures/natural/rustic elements mixed in. There is a wool Flokati rug in the main room, flor multi-colored carpet squares in the child's room and the rest of the home has hardwood/tile.

Corona avenue is just up the hill from the Lagunitas creek, just off of sir Francis Drake blvd. House is walking distance to Arti's organic Indian and Lagunitas general store. Biking distance (1.5 miles) from Samuel p Taylor Park and cross Marin biking trail.

Approx. 6 miles to Point Reyes. Perfect location to visit Olema, Nicasio, Bolinas, Roy's Redwoods, Tomales Bay and all of Wesr Marin. Local and organic dining in Point Reyes Station,, Olema, Fairfax, Forest Knolls, Inverness...
We are about 40 minutes from SF

In summer there is plenty of fresh food and produce available: you have the Pt. Reyes farmer's market on Saturday mornings, and Wednesday is the charming evening farmer's market in downtown Fairfax. Close by local organic shopping at Good Earth Market and Cowgirl creamery for artisan meats/cheese

  • The cabin was such a good way to spend a weekend away from the city. The living room was beautiful and really everything about it was. It's also super close to all sorts of incredible and varied hiking trails. I would definitely recommend it for an easy getaway from the city or for anyone interested in exploring Point Reyes a bit more.

  • One of my favorite airbnb experiences thus far - and I've had quite a few over the years! Natalie's retreat in the woods is everything that is pictured and more.

The simplistic and intelligent design of their lifestyle shines through to a destination of peace and serenity.

And in the ultimate compliment, by the end of the trip, I was looking at real estate in the area. : )

  • Everything about our stay at Natalie's treehouse cottage was extraordinary. The house itself is nestled deep in the woods of the San Geronimo ridge, quiet, simple, and comforting. The wood stove kept us warm, and the surrounding trees and nature make it a wonderful place to relax and think. Out of the door it's just a 5 minute bike ride to Samuel P. Taylor Park, where we were able ride all day in the vast Marin open space parks and see views of Mt Tam and the ocean.

Natalie was a wonderful host, kind and communicative, and left us with everything we needed to have a wonderful stay and learn about the area. Our best AirBnB experience yet!

  • I'm a super AirBnb fan and can tell you that Natalie's place is probably one of the most poetical places that I ever stayed. If you're a small family with one petit kid (maybe 2) looking for simplicity, beauty, comfy and peace, go ahead. By the way, Natalie and her smart-artist-cute Eli have a very nice book collection which was a shame I couldn't have the time to enjoy even more. Thanks Natalie!
(by the way, or I'm a lucky expert on finding good places at AirBnb or this community is really amazing...)

  • We loved this beautiful, woodsy location. The surrounding trees are gorgeous and nearby hiking in Point Reyes was a highlight for our trip. The description of this home is detailed and accurate, which we appreciated. We hope all enjoy their time here!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Natalie's great little cottage in Lagunitas. Such a wonderful spot, nestled in the treetops, with wonderful views of the forest and great light during the day. And for hiking, cycling and trail running, you're in the heart of some amazing country. If, like us, you visit in winter, don't forget your warm clothes—it can be chilly—but with the wood stove and blankets we enjoyed a cozy stay.

  • The tree house was such a treat to stay in. It was exactly what we needed. Quiet, relaxing place in the woods. No tv, good energy and close to point reyes and Taylor park. We can't say enough kind words to Natalie for sharing her home and the communication was wonderful. We wish it could of been longer and look forward to staying again in the future. Thnx Natalie.

  • Thank you Natalie & family for opening your home to us! The location is gorgeous and the house cozy. It was delightful to stay in a house so tasteful and practical. Natalie had left some dried lemonbalm for us to make tea of, and there was a log in the fireplace waiting for us.
State park is minutes away, we went hiking and after read by the fire. Waking up first thing you see are the trees around the house. What a dream!
We are San Franciscans, so used to old houses and single pane windows. For all others I'd say: DO pack your warm socks and pajamas for the night.

  • Staying at Natalie's adorable cottage in the woods was a great way to spend a romantic weekend! It was as shown in the pictures, and Natalie was very easy to contact and work with. We loved hanging out on the deck outside and just taking in the sounds of nature.

My husband and I are film artists and educators. We relocated to Lagunitas in West Marin two years ago after spending 10 years in Los Angeles ( i completed my master's at calarts) We decided to move north after an artist residency at the headlands center for the arts. We love the ocean, the smell of bay and eucalyptus, sunlight in the late afternoon and the fog rolling in. We live on the edge of the woods with our 7-year old son, Eli-who loves the coho salmon, stellars jays, old-growth trees, and red foxes--who sometimes wander across our deck. We are brand-new to airbnb and hosted our first guest this past weekend! (June 10th)
