The Space

Enjoy a sunny, private, quiet room with queen bed and a full bath. Your room is on the 2nd floor of a 2000-s.f., 3-bed, 2.5-bath home. You will share with me the 1st-floor living, kitchen, dining, home office, half-bath, & utility rooms. You'll also have access to three separate outdoor living spaces: Backyard covered patio, 2nd floor covered patio, and 3rd floor roof deck with wonderful city views. One off-street parking space is provided right outside the door.

The living area offers a 47" 3D-HDTV with surround sound, expanded basic cable, internet access and Apple TV. A home office on the 1st floor offers a large desk and wireless printing. High Speed Wi-Fi is included.

Guest Access

Guest room is private. One Full Guest Bath is private unless the the other guest room is also booked. Half-bath is also available nearby. The rest of the house is shared with me.

Interaction with Guests

I travel regularly, but if I'm home home during your stay, my bedroom has it's own bath, and is nicely situated to provide privacy and serinity to the guest rooms. I'm adaptable to a range of interaction levels with guests. I enjoy good conversation if you're up for it and have enjoyed sharing meals as well. I can just as easily be low impact.

The Neighborhood

The home is situated just 1.5 miles south of the shores of beautiful Lady Bird Lake, Zilker Park & Barton Springs Pool. You're less than a mile from the Barton Creek Green Belt. You are right in the middle of the transitioning, booming, exploding South Lamar (SoLa) neighborhood. There are 100 retail shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues alone on the 3.5-mile stretch of Lamar between Lady Bird Lake and Ben White Boulevard and more opening all the time. The influx has created some interesting contrasts — with boutique shops, trendy salons and hip restaurants coexisting with taxidermy shops and honky-tonks. If mexican food is your thing, this is smack dab in the middle of Tex-Mex heaven, folks. Easy walk to Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co., Olivia, Barley Swine tapas, Henri's wine and cheese, Lick ice cream, LuLu B's vietnamese, Horseshoe Lounge, El Meson, Black Sheep, Sezon, East Side King and a 24-hour CVS. A very short distance to Uchi, Odd Duck, Barlotta, Winebelly, Habanero, Matt's El Rancho, Maria's Taco Village, Torchy's Tacos, Gordough's Public House & Kerby Lane Cafe. So, so many more . . .

Getting around

It's a 5 minute walk to the bus stop. You are 3 miles from the intersection of 6th Street and Congress, the heart of downtown: 10 minutes by car, 20 minutes by bike, and 25 minutes by bus. You are within the Car-2-Go operation zone, so you can often pick a car up within walking distance and park it right out front when you're through with it. Car-2-Go is also a great way to get to and from the airport for about $10.

  • Fantastic host! Doug keeps adding more cool features to the condo, too.

  • My stay at Doug's was perfect. The design of the house and furnishings were even better than the pictures. Doug was friendly, easy going and very helpful. I would definitely stay again.

  • What can I say? This is airbnb at it's very best!! Fantastic location in South Lamar, a truly beautiful home, and a wonderful host. Thanks so much for everything Doug. I hope I get a chance to stay with you again soon. Very highly recommended. A++++++++

  • Doug's place is immaculately appointed and a mid-century enthusiast's dream. He's super nice and everything was even better than the gorgeous pictures show. Would highly recommend anyone coming to Austin to look him up!

  • I almost didn't see Doug all week but the place was still in impeccable shape and I had yet another comfortable stay.

  • What an ABSOLUTELY Awesome time I had! Staying with Doug made my first visit to Austin SPECIAL!!!
There is a direct bus line to downtown a half block away and a local bus line to South Congress at the corner. If you decide to drive it is easy from this location.
What you see here is exactly what you will see when you arrive. Doug is a great host and knowledgeable about Austin. Staying here was peaceful and relaxed...
As we say back east..."A Grown Folk" to stay!
THANK YOU!...for a wonderful send off and I look forward to getting back to visit with you soon. WE have to experience the Carrot Cake French Toast...;-)))

  • Another great stay at the condo. Thanks for everything Doug.

  • Just back last night from my stay in Austin and I miss it already!

Doug's place was perfect during my vacation. The rooms are hotel quality with a clean minimalist design complimented by Doug's hospitality. It never felt awkward going in and out of the place or to share the space with the other guests. There is a cool spiral staircase that leads to a rooftop deck that I would recommend spending time on to start off your day. It is very secure here and there was even parking for my scooter inside the gated access.

Go ahead and book this space already and tell Doug I say hello!

  • I had a great stay at Doug's place in SoLa. Doug is super friendly and organised, and the house is extremely well presented and comfortable to stay in.

Doug was kind enough to offer me a reasonably priced deal for my stay during the SXSW festival (which is a very pricey time to be staying in Austin) and I was glad I had the opportunity to stay in his townhouse. This place is nicer than a hotel, and much more homely.

In terms of location, the SoLa area has some neat little shops and eateries, and it's easy enough to get a bus downtown. However if you plan to go anywhere other than the CBD of Austin, I recommend hiring a car...the public transport in Austin isn't the greatest and if you're there during a busy time of year, taxis aren't the easiest to get ahold of. But parking looks like it would be a breeze around where Doug lives.

Thanks Doug for letting me stay and hope to see you sometime in New Zealand soon!
