The space
Remote, quiet cabin with loft bedroom and small, southern-exposure deck offer creative sanctuary. ***Please have a complete AirBnB profile before requesting a reservation, especially if you don't have any reviews yet.

Dear Guests:

We are so happy to welcome you once again to the Owl Tree Cabin!

**Disruption and Extenuating Circumstances policy NEW effective June 1, 2021. Please note: Guests must self-certify that you're healthy prior to arrival. If you're not feeling quite right we request that you cancel / change dates. Mendocino County is very rural and healthcare facilities are limited. Masks are required in public spaces; common sense is also useful!

We comply with Mendocino Safe Lodging requirements for contact-less check in and sanitation/cleaning. Cabin is left empty a minimum of 24 hours between guests. Towels are replenished on request-- but there is NO daily housekeeping service. Please message us with any questions about the cabin or the area before requesting a reservation.

Efficient, tiny galley, on-demand heater, wood stove, handcrafted woodwork. 7 miles to the store or gourmet restaurants. Dozens of beaches, hike/bike trails, rivers, state parks to explore. Rustic, yet elegant main room is 225 sq ft with cathedral ceiling and a 120 sq ft sleeping loft. A shower, toilet, and pedestal sink afford endless forest views, on-demand hot water, and antique touches. There's a loveseat, cozy chair, dining table and chairs in the main room. Up an 11-step ladder find a queen Flo-Bed, small desk and a tree-house-like view of the forest. Filtered light and a restful quietude invite sweet dreams. Sterilized dishes are stocked in the galley, as is coffee service, tea, and minimal utensils. As of March 2021, most pantry condiments have been removed so BYO if you plan to cook. Farm-fresh apples, berries, or veggies on request (in season). Galley has a small fridge, 2-burner stove. Firewood is supplied and if you need extra it will be left on the porch for a small extra cost. No TV. Your choice: disconnect from the information superhighway or connect to wireless and cell networks. Cell service is spotty in this area. Verizon and US Cellular work well. Note: the cabin is self-catering (e.g. no room service breakfast like the inns provide). Designed for a peaceful getaway. Ask about (recently upgraded) wireless service.

We look forward to sharing this retreat with those who seek harmony and proximity to nature's moods.

A few words about Owl Tree cabin to decide if you'd like to stay here.

The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk on a trail from parking to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs, an owl, or the red-tailed hawk who soars nearby.

Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy. The cabin and the forest canyon are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play.

The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here.

The oak table is an idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon.

Proximity.

We are located inland, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is often sunny and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin.

Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to beach walk and kayak are between here and Elk; the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to Anderson Valley is within 30 minutes. **Ask us about what's open for takeaway meals and provisions--this is an evolving situation and there are many options.

The Owl Tree cabin comes with a picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow next to redwood trees; also perfect for stargazing.

Regardless of where you decide to stay on the North Coast, it's hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, forests, and ocean seem timeless.

Self-Check-In: ideally from 3 pm - 6 pm, by prior arrangement for your particular arrival day. Try to arrive before dark! Bring a headlamp! Check out before noon. Details sent to all guests 3 days before arrival date after guests acknowledge separate "Safe Practices & Policies" agreement.

By making a reservation, you confirm that you understand our cancellation policy and public health protocols. Please protect your holiday with Trip & Travel Insurance.

Note: price includes 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax for stays of 28 days or less.
