Rustic, yet elegant. 7 miles to the store or gourmet restaurants. Dozens of beaches, trails, bikeways, rivers, state parks to explore. There's a loveseat, cozy chair, table and chairs in the main room. Up the 11-step ladder is a queen Flo-Bed, a small desk and a tree-house-like view of the forest. Filtered light and a restful sense of sanctuary insure sweet dreams. Galley is stocked with essentials including organic, locally roasted coffee, pristine, deep-well water and a small fridge for treats you find locally. Farm-fresh apples, berries or eggs on request (in season.) No television. Your choice: disconnect from the information superhighway or connect to wireless and cell networks.
We look forward to sharing this retreat with those who seek harmony and proximity to nature's moods. That said, the cabin is surrounded by forest, and winter weather can be unpredictable. We reserve the right to cancel or alter reservations if extreme weather conditions are forecast.

A few words about Owl Tree cabin to help you decide if you might want to stay here. One spring day, we walked what seemed like every inch of our property here on Navarro Ridge Road. We kept coming back to this small canyon. It was the light, but also an ineffable feeling that we had. I remember just sitting there quietly watching the undulating lacy green patterns change as the morning sun made its way through the trees. This was the canyon where we would hear the owls calling in the evening. This was where we would build.
Probably, if you love Las Vegas, you most likely would not like it here. And if you love Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, you would be more inclined to like it here. It is similar to Deetjen's, rustic and natural merging with nature, but dissimilar, in that the Big Sur Inn is most always full to capacity, so you’re in close proximity to people. Here you have privacy, a retreat from the world.
The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk from where you park to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs and the owls.
Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy and the cabin and the small canyon it was built in are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play.
The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here.
The oak table was the idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon.
We are located about four and a half miles inland from Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is usually beautiful and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. So you can enjoy the sunshine and enjoy the coast, without being stuck in the fog. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin.
Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to dive and kayak are between here and Elk, and of course the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to the magnificent Anderson valley is within 30 minutes.
The Owl Tree cabin comes with its own picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow, next to redwood trees: a perfect place for a picnic or stargazing.
Regardless of where you decide to stay, we hope you have a great time. It is hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, the forests, and the pristine ocean seem timeless.

Another perfect trip at Owl Tree cabin! Karen & Will hit the nail on the head and covered all details of our stay there. It's always hard to leave this woods sanctuary. Thank you both!
Karen and Will made us feel so welcome and everything we could have asked for was provided (and more!) This cabin is a magical place. Built by hand and made with creativity, love and a reverence for the woods. Come here and you will leave happier and at peace ;)
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The hideaway treehouse was absolutely stunning. The interior was a work of art providing its guests with simplicity and serenity. Karen was nothing but gracious and provided us with eveything we needed to be comfortable. Towels, shampoo and conditioner, fire wood, tea, coffee, a bottle of organic red wine...perfection. We even asked to extend our stay! It was 8 minutes to the coast with whales breaching...awesome! We took a long walk checking out the neighboring farms down a tree lined paved/dirt road. All in all...we will definitely be back! Thanks Karen for sharing your treehouse with us!
The OwlTree Cabin was/is amazing!! The surroundings are beautiful, smell of fresh wood delicious, and the home has perfect nooks and crannies to tuck away all the essential amenities for a warm, homey, and sweet time away. I surely look forward to returning! Great work Karen and Will!
Karen and Will really made me feel at home in the cabin. Karen was very nice to show me around and explain how everything worked, which was much appreciated! The cabin contains everything you need to stay there plus some extras like board games, books, local information and maps. The location is as good as it looks, hidden in the forest away from roads and noise. Its extremely peaceful and comfortable at the same time. Thanks for having me, I'm coming back for sure!
We had an amazing time at Karen and Will's beautiful Owl Tree Cabin. The cabin had everything we could have wanted including tons of area info, a fireplace, coffee, chocolate, wine, a really comfortable bed and a beautiful view. The area was so cool with lots of hikes, wineries and only a 20 min drive to Mendocino. We will definitely be telling our friends about this place and would return in a heartbeat! Thanks for all of the hospitality, Karen!
