The private bathroom has a large shower and skylight.
The guest house is a large rambling ranch style home in the vineyards of Napa Valley. It is located on a 500+ acre ranch with an onsite winery.
The house has a large commercial kitchen, a large common living room with a fireplace and a glassed in dining room. There are front and back decks with great views of Chiles Valley (our narrow and picturesque valley within the Napa Valley, with ancient oaks, cascading hills and vineyards.)
Enjoy our natural setting where wildlife abounds and the only sounds you hear are your footsteps and the wide variety of birds in the forest.
Wake up to a full country breakfast, take a deep breath and experience the fresh morning air; walk thru the vineyards with our labradors; take a run along the county road or hike to the top of the hill.

Interaction with Guests
We live on the property but not in the guest house. There may be guests staying in the other rooms or you may be the only guests. We prepare breakfast and we offer wine and hors d'oeuvres in the evening. We work on the property so we are always available to our guests.
Where do we start? We planned on spending 2 days in the Napa area. We made reservations for The Napa Wine Train Tour & doing a little winery hopping. After we got to RustRidge...we fell in love with the place & Susan. She was incredibly accommodating, pleasant & knowledgable. We took part in the train tour...& loved it but couldn't wait to get back to the ranch. The roads were great & fun to drive. The scenery was breathtaking & the peace & quiet was intoxicating! Breakfast was prepared while a few of us guests hung around the kitchen like we were family. The food was fabulous, cooked with veggies straight from their own garden! Appetizers were figs right from the trees in their back yard! We met Jim while we were out on our walk around the ranch. We felt like we became instant friends. Listening to his stories about his horse racing career & his family history was quite enjoyable & informative. We asked him if he ever considered writing a book! After our walk and petting a few of the horses we found ourselves in the tasting room. Susan & two other guests were there already. We are by no means the least bit knowledgable about wines & Susan didn't make us feel that way at all! It was a very pleasant experience & we discovered we have the need to know more about wine. I (Gail) haven't been on a vacation in 20 years...& I am very glad we picked RustRidge to be part of it! We will be back. Next time...for a whole week. For sure!

Great stay! We specifically wanted to have an "off the beaten path" experience that was outside the borderline pretentious glitz and glam of the valley.....an authentic, Napa wine country venture.
Susan and Jim were very attentive hosts, while providing us all the privacy we desired. Breakfast every morning was amazing, and they served us fabulous wine from their own vineyards along with hors d'oeuvres every evening.
My wife and I heartily recommend Rust Ridge, and sincerely look forward to a return visit soon!
P.S. Be prepared to "unplug" during your stay (you won't have phone/data signal for your mobile devices). We were, and couldn't have been happier with how it helped us really shed stress and recharge the batteries.
My girlfriend and I stayed in the poolside room for a dreamy weekend vacation in the hills of St. Helena. Susan and Jim were such delightful hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of in every way. Their property is truly unique and exactly what we were looking for: beautiful, comfortable, relaxing, and fun to explore. After enjoying the stellar home-cooked breakfast, we loved taking the dogs up to the reservoir for a morning walk, fresh made coffee in hand. Our favorite part though was enjoying the wine made right on the property and with such welcoming hosts!
The combination of a ranch, winery and b&b makes Rustridge an unforgettable place to stay! We're already planning our next visit.
Thank you Susan and Jim!
Susan's guest house is located at the peaceful part of the Napa Valley right in the middle of the winery and a horse ranch. Therefore the this place was able to offer everything we wanted for last days of our honeymoon in California. The weather was far more warm than in nearby San Francisco, if you´re looking for the sun! We had wine tastings at Susan's winery (the Chardonnay is just great) and watched the gorgeous racing horses. We stayed at the Poolside Room which was decorated with a lovely combination of horse and native american style. The room had a nice bathroom with a skylight window. This room has also a straight access to the pool where we spend most of our afternoons. As Napa Valley's sun offered its best during the afternoon, we took a dip in the pool to cool down. You may also see some hummingbirds flying around the tree right to the pool. The breakfast offered was just superb with diverse selection of eggs, meat and fresh fruits. This property also offers nice activities such as hiking trails to the hill nearby and a tennis court (currently you might find it a bit worn out but we found it as a great surprise nevertheless). Lake Berryessa is a short drive away where it is possible to rent kayaks, paddle boards or even jet skis. Downtown St. Helena is a 15-20 minutes drive away where we found great restaurant, Tra Vigne to mention as one of the best ones we tried during our honeymoon in California! All in all we enjoyed our stay really well and this was a very good spot to just be and relax fully. The hosts Susan and Jim were extremely social and friendly and gave us all the tips we wanted to have. We can highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing or romantic getaway on the countryside!

About the Host, Susan
Our secluded property, once a large thoroughbred horse and black angus ranch, was purchased by my family in 1972. Now it reflects my husband's and my two passions: wine and horses. We continue to breed and race thoroughbreds and each spring; just about the time new buds form on the grape vines, new foals are born.
The guesthouse is a rambling ranch style home with racing memorabilia, antiques, a large commercial style kitchen, wonderful views, decks, vegetable garden and pool area. We have been hosting guests here for 25 years. We have met wonderful people who have become great friends. Most people who stay here have an adventuresome spirit. They are seeking something out of the ordinary and they like to meet new people. Your experience here will not be ordinary, we would venture to say it will be extraordinary and memorable.
The grapes were first planted in the mid 70's. We grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. The winery was founded by my brothers Stan and Grant in 1985. It is housed in a renovated hay storage barn. We took over the reins of the operations in 1990. I am the winemaker and Jim is the vineyard manager and horseman. Helping us handcraft the estate-bottled wines produced by RustRidge is distinguished winemaker Kent Rosenblum aka Dr. Zin. Vines are organically grown and dry farmed, we have some of the oldest vines in Napa Valley!
Jim and I along with our three dogs, fourteen cats and fourteen horses invite you to experience our unique lifestyle, enjoy great wines and unwind in our idyllic environment.
