About This Listing
Surrounded by an secret garden from 1923 lies our two bedroom, one bath modern cottage. Newly renovated and professionally designed, this is a contemporary, yet cozy, Sonoma experience in the heart of wine country.
On a residential street, minutes to the Sonoma Square, and surrounded by the region's best wineries, restaurants, shops, parks and hiking/biking trails. This is a modern cottage in a neighborhood location.
Each of the two bedrooms has a plush Queen bed with a memory foam topper, and French doors opening out to a wrap around deck and garden. The bathroom has a double vanity, soaking tub and heated floors. The fully equipped chef's kitchen has Viking appliances, a dishwasher, quartz counters and views to the front garden. The dinning and living area flow seamlessly from the kitchen, with additional views of the greenery. There are stain glass windows, custom light fixtures and hardwood floors throughout.
In the back garden, under an antique apple tree are lounge chairs, recliners and umbrellas perfect for enjoying a book or soaking up the sun. Beneath an old plum tree stands a family-style dinning table. Enjoy breakfast in the front garden with the sound of the rock fountain and the smell of jasmine and roses.
A bottle of wine and fresh flowers welcome you. PEET's French Press coffee and espresso, as well as selection of teas, are provided. Two bicycles, wi-fi, HDTV cable, HBO, and board games are furnished for your entertainment.
For guests who need accommodation for a fifth person, the living room's platform sofa can be used as a single bed when the back cushions are removed.
Guests have access the main part of the house, but are restricted from the side unit and shed.
Interaction with Guests
We greatly appreciate forthcoming communication with guests, as we hope to avoid surprises and unmet expectations.
The home is located in the flat western part of the town of Sonoma, only a 3-5 minute drive to the Sonoma Square. While it is a corner unit, there are other neighborhood homes to its left and back and of course across the street. This part of Sonoma does not have side walks, so driving usually is the best option.
Bringing a car would probably be best, as there is not much public transportation easily available. Car services can be hired if needed.
Other Things to Note
Before confirming bookings, we like to email back and forth with our guests to get to know them a little. When sending a reservation request, please keep this in mind.

Well behaved pets are conditionally allowed for an additional $40 per night/per pet fee. The built-in sofa/day bed in the living room transforms into a single bed, which can accommodate a fifth guest for an extra $75/night charge. To respect our neighbors, guests are not permitted to play music or talk loudly in the garden from 9pm- 9am. Great get away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Kitchen was well equipped. The extent of the garden was a wonderful surprise. House stayed nice and cool via the cooling ventilation overnight. Neighborhood was nice though not historic etc. Certainly quiet enough. Very well appointed space. Flowers and wine welcoming was appreciated
This house is super charming - my family and me were blown away by how much care was put into the garden. It felt idyllic to sit out there in the morning and in the evening.
The space was clean and we really enjoyed sitting outdoors and having a glass of wine in the well maintained garden space.
The host and her mother were good about responding to texts, and I got lots of upfront info from Rachel before arriving. Check-in was super easy. Downtown Sonoma is about 2 miles/a 30 min walk away, which we were cool with.
A couple things to note in terms of modern appliances - there is no central air conditioning, and even though there are two fans and lots of windows, we all woke up sweaty throughout the night. If you like to be cool at night, bring an extra couple of fans with you. And the other note is that the washing machine is not for guests, meaning that my parents who arrived straight from Europe had to go straight to a laundromat in town. Arrive with clean clothes!
The perfect home for 4 girls enjoying wine country for a long weekend! Rachel and her mom had a bottle of wine and cheese waiting for us when we arrived - which was nice after a long flight!
The house is is adorable, squeaky clean and well appointed (french press coffee!!). Beautiful gardens with cozy seating areas made for a wonderful, relaxing trip!
This is literally Sonoma's Secret. The house is stunning. The whole house is surrounded by gardens, giving you the feeling of being in an enchanted garden. Many places to sit to watch all the birds, take in the sun and at night the sky is amazing. The inside of the house is stunning, hardwood floors, Viking appliances, crisp white tile and comfortable beds. We will be back!
When we arrived the cottage was spotless and even better appointed than you can tell from the pictures, with a bottle of wine and cheese from Rachel in the fridge to boot! The english-style gardens provide such a relaxing atmosphere that I honestly didn't want to leave, and the interior rustic touches mixed with the modern style ... just perfect. This is one of those places where you can feel the love that has been put into the details. Thank you so much, Rachel, for sharing this gem with us!
I could not recommend this place higher, you will love it.
This house is adorable! The neighborhood is quiet and provides a lovely area to go for a walk. The garden was well kept and greeted us with beautiful flowers every morning!
The house is also close to fun restaurants in downtown Sonoma, and it's within walking distance from a sweet bakery with pastries made in-house!
Rachel and her mother were so lovely! We had the most lovely stay at her cottage in Sonoma and would HIGHLY recommend this listing. I don't think the photos do the space justice, its exquisite, tranquil and very clean.

About the Host, Rachel
As a child, my family hosted foreign students who came to San Francisco to learn English. So I guess you could say that I was raised to welcome strangers to my dinner table. I try to share this perspective in my two homes-- San Francisco, CA and The Netherlands. There is a Dutch word "Gezellig" which roughly translates to "Cozy." I like to think of it as the feeling you get when you walk in your front door. This easy comfort is how to best summarize how I travel and host--- renovated clean spaces, organized easy logistics, accessible conversation, and a dinner made with care to end the day.
