Welcome to Bailey's Retreat, a respite from the rat race. Time stands still in our charming Civil War-era log cabin where Stonewall Jackson once enjoyed the panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain and Brown's Gap Valley views. Perched on 50 rustic acres in Ivy, Virginia, seven miles west of Charlottesville and seven miles east of Crozet, Bailey's Retreat offers scenic serenity for nature lovers, artists, writers, sportsmen or city slickers who simply want to unwind. Or not. Mere minutes from the University of Virginia, Monticello, Skyline Drive, Wintergreen, wineries and breweries, the cabin conveniently sits in the center of regional tourist attractions that fan out in four directions.
Lovingly and rustically restored, our 600sf cabin features an original stone fireplace, ladder-accessed queen sleeping loft, micro-kitchen, and a charming claw footed bath where you can sink down and soak it all in. A beamed ceiling, wood flooring, plaster walls and period details evoke the simplicity of an earlier era while an ample front porch provides plenty of shade. A backdrop of birdsong invites you to think, write, paint, strum, or gin up games to enjoy an unplugged existence.

The cabin was just what I needed for a quick mid-week getaway. I took full advantage of the fluffy towels, comfy bathrobe, and bath soaps. The view of the mountains is divine. I used instant book and everything was very smooth. Great communication. I'd highly recommend this cozy cabin.
What an awesome and relaxing weekend! Our one night stay was much to short on time, but completely full of beautiful views and great hospitality. We were also blessed to spend some time with the hosts (Bill and Roseanne) and felt completely welcome into their bit of natural beauty. Definitely looking forward to our next stay!
Bill was extremely welcoming, gracious, friendly, and accommodating in every possible way. The view from this cabin is absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Our time spent there was a much needed rejuvenating break between family visits. The only reason I'd hesitate to recommend this place is that I want it to be available for us to book the next time we come to Charlottesville! If you want all the benefits of connecting with the natural world with all the modern conveniences this historic cabin provides, then this is the place for you.
Everything is just as described in the listing; quaint and cozy and comfortable -- and the view is breathtaking! Roseanne met us upon arrival to welcome us and answer our questions. The bed is up the ladder in the cool and cozy loft and is very, very comfortable. We should have stayed at least two nights to really enjoy the view and to have a chance to make a fire in the fire pit and just 'relax'. We had an early morning appointment so we had to dash -- but I would definitely like to come back and enjoy the peaceful beauty for a bit longer next time!
