The views are absolutely stunning and the hosts were very kind and hospitable. The cabin, while small, was tastefully decorated with clean white fluffy towels and robes and goodies and minimal decorations. The pool (available 10-noon) is amazing and I think the views, the pool and getting to sit out by the fire pit and watch the sunset each night were the highlights! Thank you!
My daughter and I sought a mountain retreat to escape the stifling heat of the city. We were very pleased to find Roseanne and Bill Bailey's place off the Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park in Crozet. We stayed in the double-pen log house on the property, updated for comfort, and wonderfully appointed. Sitting with our morning coffee, overlooking the valley, with blue mountain peaks behind. It was beautiful and serene.
Our hosts were very open, gracious and very prompt with communications, making the logistics of our visit very easy. We would like to come back again when we have more time to explore the retreat and to learn more about the history of the area and the Bailey family.
We loved our experience staying at the cabin! Roseanne and Bill are awesome people and they've done a great job with their space. The view from the cabin is absolutely breathtaking! We would definitely go back!
Our stay at Bailey's Retreat was 'the perfect getaway,' per our 3 chalk board words we were asked to leave behind about our stay. We pulled up and were immediately stunned by the view set behind the cabin. After a while Bill came over and gave us a great background story about how his family has lived on this large plot of land for around 200 years and how he came to restore the gorgeous cabins. Inside you'll find anything you could want to make food, take a lovely bath in the claw foot tub or to just relax in a peaceful environment. We only were there for one night, but are very much looking forward to returning for a longer stay soon. As we left, we stopped by downtown Charlottesville for a day of shopping and great food.
Bill was a nice host who clearly wanted to make our stay comfortable. And the cabin itself is very cute and clean with a great view, good AC on a hot weekend and as mentioned in reviews nice bath products. But if we were in Charlottesville again we would try somewhere else.
I went ahead and booked the cabin without too much investigation because it had a five star rating after 158 reviews -- not too many places out there get that kind of feedback. Maybe my expectations are out of whack, but we were disappointed the cabin is not really secluded. It's very scenic from one side of the cabin, from the other side there is the main house where there was a lot of activity over the weekend (a 20-car party on the night we arrived, with a hot dog cart on the lawn and a lot of trash around the pool the next morning), kind of killing the secluded vibe we expected and were hoping for.
Granted, Charlottesville is expensive, but at the end of the day it was $200/night including all the fees, and you still had to walk up a ladder at night to get to bed!
