The Space

Welcome to Bailey's Retreat, a respite from the rat race. Time stands still in our charming Civil War-era log cabin where Stonewall Jackson once enjoyed the panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain and Brown's Gap Valley views. Perched on 50 rustic acres in Ivy, Virginia, seven miles west of Charlottesville and seven miles east of Crozet, Bailey's Retreat offers scenic serenity for nature lovers, artists, writers, sportsmen or city slickers who simply want to unwind. Or not. Mere minutes from the University of Virginia, Monticello, Skyline Drive, Wintergreen, wineries and breweries, the cabin conveniently sits in the center of regional tourist attractions that fan out in four directions.

Lovingly and rustically restored, our 600sf cabin features an original stone fireplace, ladder-accessed queen sleeping loft, micro-kitchen, and a charming claw footed bath where you can sink down and soak it all in. A beamed ceiling, wood flooring, plaster walls and period details evoke the simplicity of an earlier era while an ample front porch provides plenty of shade. A backdrop of birdsong invites you to think, write, paint, strum, or gin up games to enjoy an unplugged existence.

  • Roseanne and Bill are very helpful and very nice people: we communicated easily while we don't speak english fluently.
The place is gorgeous, very quiet, wonderful landscapes and many wild life.
    Everything is clean and convenient.
We had a short but excellent moment here: hope we come back one day...

  • My husband and I stayed at Roseanne and Bill's cabin for a "mini-moon" for a couple of nights after our wedding. Coming from the D.C. area, we were amazed at how quiet it was and how much it felt like being away from it all - yet downtown Charlottesville was a quick drive away! We visited 3 breweries in the area, went hiking and checked out Charlottesville and Crozet, and still managed to have plenty of time to sit on the porch and watch the gorgeous mountains and take a relaxing dip in the pool. It was lovely.

  • My husband and I rented Bailey's cabin for a week for our honeymoon. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for- a beautiful space in the middle of the most beautiful panorama. We saw deer, drank coffee on the porch, took swims, enjoyed the Blue Ridge Mountains, cooked some great meals, and enjoyed downtown Charlottesville. The cabin has it all- we would have moved in if we could have :)

  • Staying in the cabin was a great time. It is a nice little getaway that makes a much better night than a hotel. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves and found all the accommodations we needed. The view is spectacular, and we enjoyed hearing the history of the location. We would gladly return!

  • My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer... I booked the cabin for one night and wish we could have stayed for two! Roseanne and Bill were great and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for the snacks! My boyfriend is still raving about the banana bread.

  • We had a wonderful time at Bailey's Retreat. The cabin was beautiful, with a great view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Bill stopped by to share some of the history of the land and the cabin, which we really appreciated. We had a great weekend and would definitely recommend Bailey's Retreat!

  • This was a pleasant revitalizing experience!!!! The peace and quiet was so thick you could almost taste it. Bill and Roseanne were excellent hosts providing a meditative environment for me, which is exactly what I was looking for. Watching a rainstorm roll in over the mountains from my perch on the porch was magical, and it was a joy to fall asleep to rain drops on the roof as I sunk into the comfy bed in the loft. I will be recommending Baileys Retreat to my family and friends, and I hope to find my way back there myself one day! Thank you Bill and Roseanne, what a wonderful home you have!

  • We had a wonderful time in our hilltop cabin retreat. Our host, Bill, was very laid-back and cordial; offering welcome and information then leaving us to explore. The cabin itself was cozy with a comfortable bed and large leather chairs. There is a small, but adequate kitchen with a variety of pots and pans as well as a china cabinet with plates and silver. Outside, there is a small porch and just beyond, two adirondack chairs and an enclosed fire pit. We had a great time eating by the fire and watching the sun drop over the nearby hills. The cabin is right on top of a hill actually, so it offers great views of the Blue Mountains. I especially loved the short, but very deep tub as well as the fantastic pool that is steps away from your door.

We did cook several meals in the cabin. Bill and Roseanne provide a packet with information on markets as well as many other local activities. The cabin had lots of towels and even two robes. Personal touches like a little beach bag with towels for the pool made it feel like staying with a friend.

Some things to keep in mind: There is a ladder - you can not get into bed without climbing. We were fine with it but it may be harder for others; The shower is European-style - meaning it's a large tub with a handheld showerhead; Wifi is iffy - basically, you can't plan on the go and GPS can be tricky. Look-up directions and local information before you leave.

Overall we loved our stay and are already talking about going back.

  • The cabin was beautiful and overlooking what must be one of the best views in Charlottesville. We were only there briefly, but would go back in a heartbeat.

  • Roseanne and Bill were wonderful hosts. The view and the ambience of the cabin and area was phenomenal. This was my first experience at a B&B and we are already planning a second trip.
