Welcome to Bailey's Retreat, a respite from the rat race. Time stands still in our charming Civil War-era log cabin where Stonewall Jackson once enjoyed the panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain and Brown's Gap Valley views. Perched on 50 rustic acres in Ivy, Virginia, seven miles west of Charlottesville and seven miles east of Crozet, Bailey's Retreat offers scenic serenity for nature lovers, artists, writers, sportsmen or city slickers who simply want to unwind. Or not. Mere minutes from the University of Virginia, Monticello, Skyline Drive, Wintergreen, wineries and breweries, the cabin conveniently sits in the center of regional tourist attractions that fan out in four directions.
Lovingly and rustically restored, our 600sf cabin features an original stone fireplace, ladder-accessed queen sleeping loft, micro-kitchen, and a charming claw footed bath where you can sink down and soak it all in. A beamed ceiling, wood flooring, plaster walls and period details evoke the simplicity of an earlier era while an ample front porch provides plenty of shade. A backdrop of birdsong invites you to think, write, paint, strum, or gin up games to enjoy an unplugged existence.
**If the cabin isn't available or your looking for a little more space please see our Cottage listing.
Guests can enjoy a relaxing time at the pool just steps away from the cabin. We post pool hours weekly.
Absolutely gorgeous and just what the doctor ordered! Roseanne and Bill were gracious when we arrived and had the cabin prepped with everything we could need. Wonderful views and deliciously cute interior. Highly recommend.
My wife and I were new to AIRBNB and this was the first place we stayed. We couldn't have asked for a better experience! Roseanne and Bill gave us a warm greeting within minutes of arriving and told us some of the best spots for hiking, biking and local stores. The cabin was the perfect romantic getaway and everything we were looking for. We plan on making this an annual spot to visit and highly recommend it!
The house was lovely. Bill was very friendly and showed us around when we arrived. Better than I imagined! Made a fire outside and listened to the forest. Took a bath in the old tub while sipping coffee in the morning. All around excellent stay. Would recommend to anyone.
Great stay and such warmhearted and accommodating hosts. The place was clean and cozy. Be warned, if you are tall, chances are you will hit your head in the doorways but a small price to pay for such amazing views and pleasant experience (what do you expect when the place is over 200 years old). Will be staying here anytime I am back in the area.
I would recommend the cabin to anyone and am looking forward to staying again.
We had a fantastic time at Roseanne and Bill's cabin on a secluded ridge outside of Charlottesville. The cabin was quiet, cozy, and perfect for a relaxing getaway - plus it was only a short drive to get into town. We had a perfect few of the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains, and then we enjoyed a fire in the firepit while gazing at the crystal-clear stars. It was an incredible location and experience, all of which were made better by Bill's explanation of the cabin's history and his family's connection to the land. Thanks guys, we really enjoyed ourselves!
We had a great time, Roseanne and Bill were available for any questions – but since the cabin was so well-prepped, we had none!
What a wonderful weekend getaway! The cabin/location is beautiful with just the right amount of rustic charm. Roseanne and Bill were excellent hosts who made us feel right at home. This won't be our last visit to Bailey's Retreat.
Baileys Retreat was so so lovely! Roseanne and Bill were incredibly kind and generous and the cabin was perfect. They were exceedingly nice, despite some hitches in our planning. The cabin has been immaculately restored, with the original wood intact in the ceiling, gorgeous floors and the original hearth. The view of the mountains from the front porch/fire pit is amazing!
There's not a great deal of privacy, as the cabin is adjacent to their home with no shrubs/trees in between... but they did not violate our sense of space in any way.
Bill had some good recommendations about where to go for a nice hike and seemed genuinely appreciative that we visited.
Overall, it was a great experience! I just wish we had more time.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin. Bill and Roseanne set everything up perfectly - the cabin was wonderful, clean and completely cozy. As hosts, they were friendly but not intrusive. Both came by to welcome us for our stay, and Bill also helped us find our way around to some markets in the area, where we picked up some great produce to cook for dinner. They even brought over some firewood for the fire-pit before leaving is to the evening.
As for the cabin, the photos really do say it all. It's a gem - perfect for a romantic getaway. I really can't recommend it enough! We hope to come back regularly!
