Bailey's Retreat Cottage #1 of 4
Welcome to Bailey's Retreat, a respite from the rat race. Time stands still in our charming Civil War-era log cabin where Stonewall Jackson once enjoyed the panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain and Brown's Gap Valley views. Perched on 50 rustic acres in Ivy, Virginia, seven miles west of Charlottesville and seven miles east of Crozet, Bailey's Retreat offers scenic serenity for nature lovers, artists, writers, sportsmen or city slickers who simply want to unwind. Or not. Mere minutes from the University of Virginia, Monticello, Skyline Drive, Wintergreen, wineries and breweries, the cabin conveniently sits in the center of regional tourist attractions that fan out in four directions.
Lovingly and rustically restored, our 600sf cabin features an original stone fireplace, ladder-accessed queen sleeping loft, micro-kitchen, and a charming claw footed bath where you can sink down and soak it all in. A beamed ceiling, wood flooring, plaster walls and period details evoke the simplicity of an earlier era while an ample front porch provides plenty of shade. A backdrop of birdsong invites you to think, write, paint, strum, or gin up games to enjoy an unplugged existence.
**If the cabin isn't available or your looking for a little more space please see our Cottage listing.
Baileys Retreat was so so lovely! Roseanne and Bill were incredibly kind and generous and the cabin was perfect. They were exceedingly nice, despite some hitches in our planning. The cabin has been immaculately restored, with the original wood intact in the ceiling, gorgeous floors and the original hearth. The view of the mountains from the front porch/fire pit is amazing!
There's not a great deal of privacy, as the cabin is adjacent to their home with no shrubs/trees in between... but they did not violate our sense of space in any way.
Bill had some good recommendations about where to go for a nice hike and seemed genuinely appreciative that we visited.
Overall, it was a great experience! I just wish we had more time.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin. Bill and Roseanne set everything up perfectly - the cabin was wonderful, clean and completely cozy. As hosts, they were friendly but not intrusive. Both came by to welcome us for our stay, and Bill also helped us find our way around to some markets in the area, where we picked up some great produce to cook for dinner. They even brought over some firewood for the fire-pit before leaving is to the evening.
As for the cabin, the photos really do say it all. It's a gem - perfect for a romantic getaway. I really can't recommend it enough! We hope to come back regularly!
We had a wonderful stay at Baileys Retreat Cabin. It was clean and extremely comfortable! We would absolutely recommend this spot to any and all of our friends and have actually already done so!
What a place! The view from the cabin is incredible, and the space was exactly what we were looking for; small, cozy, and remote. We came from Virginia Beach, and it was a great change of pace and scenery. The local wineries and restaurants were unique and the products were delicious! The hosts were great and everything they recommended for us was phenomenal. We will be back!
Beautiful views and a really cozy spot. Highly recommended!!
My husband and I are from DC and booked Roseanne and Bill's cabin for a little weekend retreat and it was an absolutely incredible time! Due to a snow storm we weren't able to make it up to the cabin until Friday afternoon around 5pm, but the moment we arrived I knew we had made a great decision. Roseanne and Bill were SO kind and helpful- they kept in touch with us to give us updates about the status of the roads. It was nice because the cabin was secluded and far enough away to feel like a getaway- but close enough to town to do various things. We loved curling up by the fire and reading. We dined at The Local and Ten in Charlottesville- definitely recommend them both.... went to Pippin Hills Vineyard and Glass House Vineyard... explored the downtown mall and UVA grounds... enjoyed a coffee at Mudhouse (get a mocha!)... overall- can't recommend this place enough! We will definitely be back again. :)
We had a wonderful weekend getaway at Bailey's Retreat cabin. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the cabin is conveniently located between downtown Charlottesville and Shanendoah/the breweries and wineries. It was a little cold in the cabin when we got there but warmed up quickly with the heater. Bill and Roseanne came over to say hello shortly after we arrived and they were very welcoming and nice - even invited us to come over and play music with them. They provided us with wood to make a fire in the firepit overlooking the valley and that was definitely a highlight of the stay for us! The cabin was also stocked with snacks, dishes, coffee and robes to stay warm. Overall a really great first Charlottesville experience.
Fantastic cabin and fantastic people. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
This was an absolute gorgeous and perfect spot for a getaway weekend! Roseanne and Bill were tremendous hosts. They were able to make us feel right at home by having the cabin ready upon our arrival. They were easily accessible if we ever needed anything.
The cabin is in incredible condition and has wonderful little details. The mountain view is tremendous! It was a perfect distance away from town to where you felt secluded, but you could easily get into downtown Charlottesville (about 10-15 minutes away).
Strongly suggest this listing! Couldn't have asked for a better weekend and the price is an incredible deal!
My boyfriend and I had an absolute blast staying at the cabin! Roseanne and Bill left us a welcome treat and had useful tips about the house to help us during our stay. It was unseasonably (and way unreasonably) cooooold while we were there, but the fireplace did a sufficient a job at keeping us warm. Bill stopped by to greet us and gave us some fabulous suggestions for places to eat and wineries to visit. I was able to save some dollars too by using the kitchen to whip up some of our meals during the long weekend. Oh, and I soaked in the fabulous tub every night! All in all, we really hope to get back soon--we joined a wine club to force us to return to Charlottesville, and we'd be more than happy to make the cabin our home for a weekend every few months or so!
