About This Listing
This small apartment is used to be my second property kept for family use. After coming across Airbnb, we find its better use in making friends from different parts of the world. To us, it is our house for guests instead of a guesthouse.
Since the house has limited space, we cannot have a sofa and a bed. The sofa-bed thus serves different purposes for daytime and sleep.
It is a tiny studio flat that is fully equipped as a home. Space has been utilized smartly to accommodate an open kitchen, a bathroom with shower and a sofa that is also a pull-out bed.
The 200 sq. ft. flat has a balcony that is even bigger than the interior itself.
The old airport used to locate at Kowloon City. That's why most of buildings in this area are not tall due to aviation rule.
People live here, so you won't see hustling night spots in this area. It has character of its own.
Supermarket, shopping mall, wet market, convenience store, laundry, pharmaceutical, beauty parlor, bank, coffee shop, restaurant and specialty shops are plenty.
Kowloon City is famous for food. There are more than 200 restaurants in this small neighborhood serving international and local cuisines. Most of them are reasonably priced and popular among locals.
Recently Kowloon City has been given a nickname, Little Bangkok, because of its growing Thai community. Many restaurants serve authentic Thai food while a few of them specializes in Thai style barbecue.
Next to my apartment, there is a street, Lion Rock Road, with many shops selling export apparel. If you are lucky, you can find sample clothes of named brands at unbeatable price.
When you live here, you must visit the nearby Kowloon Walled City Park (5 minute walk only) which has preserved some very important historical monuments. The garden has been beautifully built to imitate a traditional Chinese garden.
If you need to stick to daily jogging and swimming routine, the huge Kowloon Tsai Park is just nearby (10 minute walk).
Although there is no subway train in Kowloon City, there are many buses and minibuses serving the area. However, if you insist using subway, the nearest station (Lok Fu) is in 15-minute walking distance. It is already a far distance in our standard as we are spoiled by superb infrastructure.
Airport Bus A22 can take you directly to Kowloon City. You just need to walk 8 minutes from where you take off to go to my flat. Again, in our standard, it is a long walk. I'll provide you a detailed instruction after your booking confirmation.
We don't have an elevator in the building. Lucky that the flat is on the first floor.
Everything in the house.
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to communicate with my guests by email, Whatsapp, text and phone.
This is what a local magazine says about the neighborhood:
"Because of nearby Kai Tak airport and those legendary hairpin turns the pilots performed, the area was made up of low-rises—many of them post-war beauties... ... Neighborhood mainstays—like the specialist stores for bean curd, tea, Shanghainese groceries and coffins (yes, coffins) as well as Vietnamese, Thai, Chiu Chow and steamboat restaurants—are all still there. For years, Kowloon City was a well-known celebrity hangout for late-night suppers and Chinese dessert. In a parallel these days, the area’s European-style cake shops (the number of which seem to multiply exponentially) are just as likely to have some sort of celebrity partnership."
Public transport is very convenient as the options for buses and minibuses are plenty. In less than one minute stepping out from the building, they are there for you. Connection to subway is also very easy.
Other Things to Note
During your stay, you'll be provided with a smartphone which also functions as a hotspot for WiFi sharing. You don't need to buy your own phone and data card.
Smoking is not allowed inside the studio flat. You can smoke at the balcony.
Shoes off inside the house. Slippers are provided for outdoor.
That was by far, the best experience i had with Airbnb.
Starting with Bill, who i didn't have the chance to meet in person cause he was overseas on a business trip.
Since i have made the reservation several months ago he sent me a file guiding how to get to his place. It worked perfectly, i took a public bus at the airport and stopped close to his apartment.
When i arrived in the apartment i have found the apartment just like i saw in the pictures. Very clean, everything well maintained, it was very hot and humid in HK and when i entered the apartment the air conditioner was turned on waiting for me, bill had asked his sister to come over before i got there to leave it on for me!, i arrived from Tokyo after a 5 hour flight and there was food, soda and etc.. in the apartment. The couch becomes a comfortable bed, with clean sheets. There were all supplies needed. I was in HK for some business meetings and Bill even helped me to arrange a meeting in HK!....now the best one: Bill left a 4G Samsung phone in the apartment, which i used as a hotspot while in HK....so basically i had internet and a phone to schedule a meeting....also everything i needed, before starting to look for, i would find it in the apartment....need a stapler?, olive oil?, everything was there!......the location was also good, there is a shopping mall 5 min walk and a supermarket, and many stores, bakeries, places to eat in general. The metro is a 10 min walk, but the buses are closes and very convenient. If you need a taxi there are several passing by day and night (and taxi in HK is not expensive). I guess this apartment is a sum of a good location + good apartment + well equipped place + a great host. I would definitely come back.
Having Bill as a host was way more than just that. It was like meeting a long time friend. He took us to dinner at a great local place along with some of his friends, on his expense, which was unnecessary but very kind and it gives away the nature of the guy.
Never mind his friend was a magician and made a few numbers as desert, it was all very special and fun.
Bill was always available and happy to help when we needed some advice. We felt sorry for leaving so early but we had to keep with our travel plans. We will be back and Bill has a place to stay in Brazil.
The apartment was better than the pictures, it had everything we needed and so much more. It was tidy, clean, perfect. Really perfect. The location is superb. I wouldn't change it for other. This is the place to be in Hong Kong through Airbnb.
Bills a great guy, very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed staying in his cute cozy flat in such an interesting part of HK. Bills suggested itineraries were very helpful and gave us some good ideas. The mobile phone provided allowed us to have excellent quality wifi 100% of the time. The drinks and snacks were also a lovely touch. Real home from home.

Regarding place itself.
Please read review below about flat itself, because I don't want to repeat all these stuff - plenty of all necessary things for both daily or long term stay, from wonderful kitchen and bed to variety of food and drinks and balcony of course.
The main thing is the host itself and his hospitality and overall behavior. He is really interested in tour comfort and needs, trying his best to provide you with all possible help. We've spent 2 hours at the morning together with Bill and it was great experience of local life, shops and places to eat. He even pay for our breakfast. You can as whatever you want and that's more important when you want, because Bill provides every guest with big convenient Samsung Smartphone to be used for maps, searching and messaging.
"Superhost for superguests" - Bill said me once and this is absolutely right!
Best place ever!
We stayed 3 nights in Bill apartment and REALLY enjoyed it. Bill and his sister welcomed us in a very friendly way: we talked candidly about HK, China, the world... (Nice discussion, Bill, Thank you!) We also went around the very local and sympatic neighborhood and Bill recommended us his best tips for restaurants, transport, etc. We even stopped in a small restaurant to eat a tofu dessert, which was pretty good.
The apartment is not very big (it's HK you know) but perfectly organized and equipped: snacks and beverages filled fridge, functional kitchen with pots, pans and cooking basics like oil and spices, which we had never see in other AirBnB in China. There's a big hot shower with 2-3 choices of soaps/shampoos, plenty towels and the bed is comfortable and clean. We got wifi access on our phones all day long on shared connections with a phone Bill let us for our stay.
Finally, a big and sunny balcony on which it was so nice to breakfast the morning.
We could not ask more from an AirBnB and all our expectations and beyond were filled.
Thank you very much for all Bill, you own your "Superhost" title: you sincerely worth it :)
