About this listing
Sunny first floor apartment overlooking Mediterranean garden. In the heart of a wine growing village, surrounded by vineyards, close to the sea.
You can choose the Poppy bedroom or the Olive bedroom and we then open up the adjacent salon to create a comfortable and practical apartment.
The Poppy bedroom has a double bed, the bathroom has a tub, overhead shower, basin and separate WC. Central heating and aircon in the bedroom.
The Olive bedroom has a kingsized bed, or 2 singles, and has a shower room with shower, basin and WC. Central heating, overhead electric fan.
The salon - which can be combined with either bedroom - has a pull-out sofabed, dining table and chairs, and a small but fully-equipped kitchen (electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge, cutlery, plates and utensils).
Breakfast is not included in the rental price but we are happy to offer this to our guests if they wish for a small extra charge of 6 euros per head. It is served in the garden or in our salon. We offer coffee / tea / chocolate with croissants, bread, butter, jams, fresh fruits.
All our guests have free access to our gardens and pool.
Interaction with guests
We live here and welcome all our guests personally. We are on hand for information and help but never intrude
Our village has a great range of shops - 2 bakeries, butcher, chemist, supermarket, fruit and veg shop, post office, restaurant and bar - and we are very close to larger towns such as Pezenas, Agde and Beziers which have lots of historical interest. The Mediterranean is nearby, and inland there is great countryside with lakes and rivers.
Local transport is good, clean and inexpensive and all villages have regular services, but – and this is very important – bus services are not always very frequent and to explore all this large region car is best – cycling is very popular and the empty roads and byways make a bicycle ride a delightful way of discovering the Sud de France.
Other things to note
his is large house, and also our home. Tony and I live here permanently, as do our respective mothers who have independent ground floor apartments. We have lived here for 12 years and have put alot of thought and hard work into creating a pleasant setting for us and our family and especially for all our guests.
Parts of the house date back probably to the 17th century, and some areas are late 19th century. This presents many challenges in creating comfortable modernised accommodation whilst retaining old world charm. For example, we have chosen to keep some wonderful centuries old wooden beams uncovered, they have been treated of course but can cause dust.
Family bedrooms and living space are separate from the guest areas but it should be noted that all access to the back garden and pool area is via our kitchen. We have plans to build a separate kitchen one day but for the moment the lay-out of the house dictates that guests have to go through the kitchen. We are very open about this and guests should never worry about 'disturbing' us. In fact chambre d'hôte guests have full use of all our kitchen equipment etc.
We are child-friendly and dog-friendly.
We moved to France 25 years ago and have lived in Languedoc for 20 years as we love it so much. Our 3 kids grew up here and have moved away but enjoy coming back to visit and now we have both our mothers living with us as well. We have dogs and grandchildren, all equally loved!, and enjoy welcoming guests into our family home and life - many have become friends and comeback regularly.
My husband, Tony, is passionate about photography, in particular 19th century wetplate photography . He has built himself a darkroom and photo lab and has built up an impressive collection of cameras and photographic equipment as well as old photos and prints. He loves sharing his passion with visitors so please come and chat with him about it all. He tours the local antiques and 'flea' markets every Sunday and is adept at spotting interesting finds.
We aim to provide a relaxed and family atmosphere at Villa Roquette. Our house reflects our varied interests and passions and is as far away as possible from a formal hotel experience.
