This was an amazing getaway! Only a few miles from home but it felt like we were in another world. Such a lovely opportunity to get outdoors and off the grid for a night. Hosts were very welcoming! We will definitely be back.
Staying at Murray and Kay's was the highlight of our trip. Goats, horses, birds, and a fantastic host—what's not to like? We were only there for a night, but we'll be sure to stay a bit longer next time. Murray met us at the gate as soon as we arrived and was available via text if we needed him during the trip. (We didn't.) The hiking was amazing and we truly feel like our souls are refreshed and we're ready to take on life's challenges. Book the trailer. You'll be happy you did.
Stunning location! My kids loved this, and we were sad we got to spend only one night. I highly recommend for families. An experience not to be missed!
Murray was a gracious host. He explained everything and gave helpful directions for hiking. It was a good camping experience with great hiking and views.
Loved it! I had always wanted to stay in an airstream and it was wonderful. Murray was a great host. Thank you!
Murray gave us directions for an incredibly beautiful 15 mile drive through the Santa Monica Mountains to their ranch. He wasn't able to greet us, but made sure we had crystal clear directions for getting to the airstream up and over the (steep) hill once on the land. Dirt road was dry & fine, even for my Volt. And, true to his word, Murray checked in on us later to give us tips and the general lay of the surrounding land from mountains to sea. He also made sure the heater was on so we'd be nice and warm on a nippy evening. One of the dogs - what an ambassador! The next morning - it was SOOO QUIET, the air SOO still, the scenery SOO beautiful. The silhouette of the mountains against the rising sun, the whitecaps in a cove way below, spring wildflowers blooming on either side of the trail we were hiking up, just steps from his land. And, coming into view in the distance, the 2 airstreams - one perched on a little hilltop, ours nestled against the hillside. Each out of view of the other. Perfect.
For dinner, we had hauled in one of the several available outdoor tables and a chair and put them bedside against the always-bed converted from the former seating/table area. It was quite comfy, both for sitting and eating and later sleeping. The battery-powered lighting held out, and we had all the dishes and pots we needed. Forgot the wine, so those inviting wine glasses remained untouched. Next time!
This turned out to be the perfect Easter weekend getaway! The weather was perfect under the shade of a large sycamore tree next to the Airstream. We were visited by the horses around 10 pm under the light of a blood moon. The next morning, our Labrador Retriever had the thrill of his lifetime chases the herd of goats that wandered up. We had a wonderful time and this proved to be a great adventure!

My wife and I are Christian, semi-retired film industry people who thrive on adventure and meeting interesting people. Over the past 13 years I've restored several vintage Airstream trailers and consider them the ultimate in camping comfort. One of my restorations now actually resides in Japan!
We used to love to travel and camp in our 1957 'FLYING CLOUD' AIRSTREAM but now enjoy allowing others to share the experience without the hassle of driving, towing and fighting for a spot in a crowded and noisy campground. We live on a 20+ acre ranch property (with some overly friendly goats, dogs and horses) in the Santa Monica Mountains- surrounded by thousands of acres of open space and direct access to the famous Backbone Trail, which is renowned for hiking, horseback and mountain bike riding. We are also only 6 miles from the glorious beaches of Malibu. Our hilltop location is the perfect deluxe camping experience, with ocean views, and base to enjoy this unique mountain range and Mediterranean climate which occurs in only 6 places in the world.
