The bedroom features a queen size bed suitable for 2 adults. The house is conveniently located for anyone who would like a short commute to San Francisco or Silicon Valley. We are also in close proximity to many trails and beautiful beaches, for those who enjoy the outdoors.
I am ideally looking for someone to stay for most/all of the duration of my next visit abroad. Please contact if you are looking for 3+ weeks.
We stayed at Mary's house for 10 days in January. It is a light and airy home in a phenomenal location--on a low cliff just steps from the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. The rear of the house has huge windows in the living room, dining room, and bedroom that overlook the sea, and my husband and I spent hours just watching the waves. Conveniences include plenty of dishes, pots, pans, and linens, plus a washer and dryer, dishwasher, and spa bathtub. There is a wonderful hot tub on the back patio. The location is very private, yet downtown San Francisco is a quick 15 minute drive away. There are markets, restaurants, bars, and music venues in Pacifica. A plus for us was her cat, Dancer, an older fellow who loves to sit by the gas fireplace and be brushed. We would definitely like to stay here again.
WOW, what a view! This home (just as amazing and pleasant as its owner) is situated right on the ocean shore and the view from the living room and bedroom is simply breathtaking. It's a beautiful and very peaceful home with parquet, gorgeous furniture, amazing collection of Japanese objects, a most pleasant collection of mostly classical music, and many interesting books - really enjoyable. We wish Mary had better pics on the web to show this treasure! The cat Dancer looks like a Maine Coon, is very friendly and quiet. We also enjoyed the fireplace and the outdoor hot tub with ocean view. All this just 30 min away from downtown, 20 min away from Half Moon Bay and in a very peaceful neighborhood with friendly and helpful neighbors. We will be very happy to come back next time in SF.
If you love the sea, this is the perfect place to stay! Mary's place offers spectacular views of the ocean, the california coast, sea birds, sunsets, surfers, and even the occasional harbor seal.
The spacious living room has panoramic windows; however, for me the highlight of my stay was watching the sunset while soaking in the outdoor Jacuzzi, a glass of sparkling wine in hand. (You can't do that in the Cliff House!)
The neighborhood is very quiet. Depending on wind and tides, the crashing surf is audible inside the house, which, however, I found it to be soothing. Pacifica Pier is within walking distance, and was quite a view at sunrise, when hundreds of local people were gathered to fish for crabs.
The neighbors are nice people, and helped me when I had a question about Dancer, the cat. Mary, too, was very helpful, via phone & email, responded very quickly to all questions I had, and took great care that I have a pleasant stay.
Dancer is a mild-mannered old fellow, and easy to take care of. Make sure to turn the fireplace on in the evening, brush him a lot, and let him play with a piece of string.
Within 15 minutes you can be in San Francisco, by car, or about 45 minutes by public transport (Bus&BART). SFO Airport is also really close, about 15 minutes. A pharmacy, a bakery, coffee shops, and Oceana supermarket, a whole-foods type of store, are a minute away.
So, since this is Pacifica, what about the fog? Well, I stayed here for more than three weeks in October and November, and had only _one_ single day of fog. All other days were pretty nice.
Overall I wholeheartedly recommend this place. Nice location, great view, and a friendly host.
The Cottage by the Sea is in a wonderful location. The neighbors are kind and helpful. You can easily get on and off the highway. It’s easy to pop up north to San Francisco or go south towards Santa Cruz. If you are looking for a good central located quiet spot with the essentials this is the place. The hot tub was wonderful. Dancer (cat) was easy to care for. He loves to be brushed and have the fireplace on when it cools down outside as he is older and quiet except when he is hungry or wants attention. He loves to drink out of the faucet in the front bath. Shower was awesome. We did not use the inside Jacuzzi tub, but there is one there, after all there was the hot tub outside to use. The bed is harder than we prefer, but we made it work. Had 2 minor repair issues that were taken care of in a timely matter. We got to meet Mary and she was wonderful. Mary asked what could be done to improve our stay and we will share that with her privately, she is very caring.
