The Oliver Room is a charming, cozy room on the second floor of Prospect House, with a full-size bed, window, area rug, closet, and it's conveniently located directly across from the bathroom.
Welcome to Prospect House, an 1869 brick Italianate mansion in Buffalo's West Village Historic District! The Oliver Room is on the second floor of our 3-story home, down the hall from the spacious Hawes Suite (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1006915). Perfect for singles or couples who'd like a private, quiet space. Recently painted, the room has a comfortable full-size bed, and brand-new linens. A table, chair, and a closet are also available for guests to use. The second floor has its own bathroom, right across the hall from the Oliver Room, which guests in the three rooms on that floor share.
We provide continental breakfast supplies, included in your room rate, so you can fuel up before you head out to explore our interesting neighborhood, downtown architecture, a conference, sporting events or shopping. The shared kitchen, just down the back stairs, is available for your use (please be conscious of vegetarians in the house), as is space in the refrigerator to store your food purchases and leftovers.
My husband Jon and I manage the AirBnB listings in the house- we share use of the first-floor common areas with our guests. We're eco-friendly, avid urban cyclists and gardeners who are engaged in civic life in our city. I am an artist/historian and Jon is a graphic designer; we'll help you navigate Buffalo- both its past and its present!
Here's the Writer's Suite, if you'd like to book something larger on the second floor:
And if you prefer something on the first floor, check out our History Room:
Ours is an eclectic 3-story Italianate, filled with local art and unique spaces that you won't find elsewhere. You'll be charmed by its original wood floors, curved banister, pocket doors, gas fireplace in the downstairs living room, and soapstone mantels.
We'll supply you with maps, local guides, and plenty of recommendations for good food, shopping, independent art and cultural experiences, and more! We're excited to share our BuffaLove with you and help you enjoy your stay in the "Queen City of the Lakes".
All common areas of the house including living room, dining room, kitchen, porch, and backyard garden (in season). Shared bathroom on the second floor for guests on that floor.
Interaction with Guests
Jon and I usually are around to greet guests, but we have very busy lives and are not always home. We look forward to chatting with you about your work and your travel- we're open-minded and fascinated by all the different kinds of people we've met through Airbnb! You can feel free to hang out in the common areas, or retreat to your room; we respect your needs and your time.
Keep in mind, we offer breakfast supplies but do not cook breakfasts for our guests. Sometimes, we share a meal just for the fun of it!
We love our neighborhood, which is full of incredible Civil War-era brick homes, and is a five minute walk from architectural wonders like the art deco City Hall, Louis Sullivan's Guaranty Building, Shea's Theater, and the newly-renovated Statler Towers. (Personalized tours of our historic district neighborhood, downtown Buffalo, the grain elevators, or other historic sites are available for a small fee).
There's easy access to the 190/Thruway, leading you to Niagara Falls or points south of Buffalo, only three blocks away.
Prospect is a wide avenue, and free alternate-side street parking is available! We can help direct you to easy nearby public transportation, or bring your bikes for an enjoyable ride! Buffalo benefits from the country's first interconnected Olmsted Park system, which is well-maintained and much beloved today. Frederick Law Olmsted called Buffalo "America's best laid-out city" with its radial grid pattern of streets, making it easy to find your way around.
Other Things to Note
We have a hair blow dryer, ironing board, laundry and other amenities available upon request, free of charge.

When you arrive, knock loudly and also ring the doorbell (if it's before 10pm). If no one answers, use the key Lockbox: Enter the code, which we will give to you upon confirmed reservation. Dana was an excellent host. She was responsive and informative before arriving, and friendly and engaging during our stay there. The Oliver Room was cozy, inviting and clean. The house itself is also ideally situated, within close walking distance of all of Buffalo's attractions.
Nice people, better hosters. They took care about my request and helped me out trying to find me another room for rent when I left. Really appreciate it.
Dana and Jon made me feel very welcome throughout my stay. Before arriving, Dana provided thorough information about everything I needed to know for a smooth arrival, stay, and departure. When I got to the house, Jon was just leaving but welcomed me in and showed me the room. Everything was as described, and the room was very comfortable. I had no issues with the bedroom, bathroom, or entering/leaving. The neighborhood was quiet and I was able to find parking directly in front of the house. Overall it was a great experience.
Dana was a very welcoming and warm host. Her home was cozy and clean, clearly a lot of pride and care has gone into preparing the rooms. Dana was also very understand when we had to make arrangements due to unexpected circumstances, she accommodated our request professionally and swiftly.
The location is convenient, close to the LRT (even though we had a car and drove around most of the time), and to various attractions.
Pretty, clean Room. Pity that the kitchen was renovated. It is a perfect location to explore Downtown.
This was my first visit to Buffalo, and also my first try with airbnb. Amazed with both. I can't imagine a more positive experience than what Prospect House provided. Wonderful hosts, comfortable bed, great base to explore from.
I had a lovely time staying here! Very convenient location and great value. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores nearby. The house is an old one, but I personally like places with a little character. Would stay again if ever in Buffalo.

I am a professional historian, artist and preservation activist. I research properties, family histories, and work on a number of social justice causes. I've lived in Buffalo for five years, and consider it my adopted hometown. It has a lot to fall in love with: the incredibly friendly and open people, the vibrant and accessible arts scene, the historic architecture, the local food, and the ease of getting around.
My husband Jon is a graphic designer and screenprinter who knows a lot about bicycles, gardening, and is an incredible home cook. We will welcome you into our home and share whatever you'd like to know about Buffalo. We look forward to hosting a variety of interesting guests, and hopefully making a few friendships along the way!
