House is full of whimsy and is perfect for a short term visit.

The Space

I'm a hospitality professional and am happy to offer my newly renovated 1890's home for guests vising Washington DC. Just 1 block from bus stops and a block and a half from the Potomac Ave Metro Station on the Blue and Orange line. It's a 15 minute walk to the Capital building. Great restaurants and neighborhood perks like Eastern Market, Barrack's Row, the National's Park and RFK Stadium all within walking distance too.
Bikeshare and supermarket within a block too.

Your space is the Guest room with your own Bathroom.
The room has a wonderful pillow top queen mattress, a desk, two windows facing west and other amenities for a comfortable stay. Umbrella provided and other conveniences like fresh towels, sheets, maps and other information available. The 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home has blonde bamboo floors, mostly new appliances, WiFi, sklylights, a water filtration system and other amenities. The house is well appointed with whimsy and charm. Washer/dryer is available for use as well. BONUS -- you get your own bathroom too and yes, there will be little soaps and shampoo for you!
There is now cable tv in the bedroom.
My living room has a 60 inch tv bachelor pad style set up with PS3 and free HD.

Longterm stays negotiable.

My cat Stoli-O lives here too. He has lots of personality and can be kept out of your way if you prefer -- otherwise he might want to curl up with you.

I'm fluent in Polish and can understand some Spanish (I'm working on that!)

During your stay you can expect that I will always offer you food and drink. I will leave out breakfast and I keep a beverage cooler stocked. I sometimes work long hours and you many not see very much of me, but I will leave you notes checking up on you or with an invitation. I will mostly leave you alone but know that I am available to help guide you with recommendations. Your feedback is also important to me because of my commitment to your comfort. So if something's quite not right, please let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you. Let me know what questions I can answer for you.

Guest Access

Guest has access to the laundry room, living room, kitchen, dining room and backyard patio. This is all shared space.
I respect your privacy and expect the same.

Interaction with Guests

I will always try to greet you personally upon arrival.
During your stay you may or may not see me for a few days as some mornings I'm out of the house by 6am and others 9am. Some nights I'm back by 6pm or well after midnight. My interaction with you depends on the week for me and what might be going on. If I'm out of town during your stay, my neighbor will come over to feed Stoli. If you're interested in feeding me so you have complete privacy, just let me know.
My cleaning lady comes every other Saturday late mornings. She will clean your bathroom and straighten up your bed. Otherwise she's cleaning all of the shared space too.

The Neighborhood

I love the access that my neighborhood offers. We're 2 blocks from the highway, 1 block from bus stops and the metro station. As of spring 2014, we will be on the silver line which services Dulles Airport. There's a bike share a block away and nice walking paths. You can also enjoy the sights of the Capitol grounds, Barracks Row, Eastern Market, Nationals Ball Park all within a 15-20 minute walk. The Harris Teeter supermarket is around the corner too. They're open 7am-11pm.

Getting around

There's always street parking on my block. If you'd like a parking permit, I can arrange that with a little notice of your license plate numbers.
Easy access to metro, bus, bike, walking etc.

Other Things to Note

I keep a beverage cooler for guests. Some AirBNBers leave extra soft drinks, beer and such. I'm just paying forward!

  • Dear Gena, thank you so much for your home. Very convinient place (3min to nearest metro), in walking distance to Capitol Hill. Large and clean room and very comfortable bed. Newly restorated stylish house with pretty nice cat. There was some problems due to bad weather bun Gena tried to solve all of them. You can absolutely trust her.

  • I really had a great time at Genas House in D.C. Gena is very kind and helpful and I really had a funny Time with her. The cat is very friendly, too. I would completely recommend to go there, absolutely great!! The House is so cosy and everything is very clean and I also liked the area where Gena lives.

  • Nice house with a friendly cat! Gena was out of town during my stay, but made sure that everything about my stay went smoothly.

  • It feels like home!
I stayed with Gina for 6 weeks and it was perfect. The house is beautiful, the room is very cosy and having my own closet, bathroom and TV (xfinity!) was great too. Everything is clean and welcoming. Stoli the cat is also very cuddly.
Gena is a great host, courteous, generous, straighforward and a really good guide to Washington DC. She knows the best bars and restaurants in town and gave me awesome hints on where to go on weekends.
The neighboorhood is also very nice, Subway and Supermarket are just around the corner. All the sights and the Mall can easily be reached by public transport or walking (Capitol a 20 minutes walk). 8th Street and H Street are hip and close places for going out. Capital bikeshare also just across the street.
    I loved it!

  • Ms. Gena was an absolutely magnificent host. From the very beginning she has made every effort to make me feel at home and involved with her life and that of her friends and neighbors. I have enjoyed every moment when I was her housemate and cannot praise her high enough for her superb service and infectiously happy and open minded attitude. Her family and peers made me feel that I was just another relative visiting from out of town and I never felt for an instant that I was away from home. I would gladly have her as my host again when I return to Washington D.C.

  • Gena is the most welcoming of hosts leaving early from work so that she could meet me and welcome me to her home, which is lovely. The bedroom is lovely with lots of hanging and drawer space and the bed is very very comfortable. you have use of your own bathroom where she has a wide selection of toiletries and plenty of towels for guests use. Stolio the cat is a sweetheart and we became great pals, Gena herself has travelled a great deal and is fun to chat to - she told me about the Sunset Parade at the Marine barracks on 8th - just 5 blocks easy walking from the house. 8th also has lots of cafes and restaurants. Gena offers her guests free wifi and she also has Netflix on her tv. The house is just around the corner from the Harris Teeter store, with a Subway and ATM next to the store and its only very short walk to the Potomac avenue metro which gives access to downtown on the blue and orange lines. Gena even popped home on her lunch break to say bye to me and her friend Sara gave me a ride to the Regan airport. This is a great spot to stay and Gena is a wonderful host.

  • I wanted to take Stoli the cat with me! But I never got to meet Gena because my traveling companion checked in and I’m an up all night kinda girl and I was only there to sleep and shower but she’s most definitely super friendly and accommodating and everything was just as I expected it to be and more!

  • Gena was an extremely welcoming, kind, and considerate host. A really enjoyable and comfortable stay. Thank you!

  • It's very easy to feel comfortable at Gena's place. She's very nice and worries about her guest. That is to say, she worries without being invasive. So it is a very thin line and she works perfectly within it. (I hope I am making myself clear) The place is clean and quiet. The neighborhood is great. It's easy to get around as it is very nicely located. There is a cat. But for those who do not like pets, Stoli can ignore you completely with you want him to. In my case I like pets, so Stoli would be responsible for a sixth star, if there were one. Besides all that I was provided with a good immersion in the finest culture of USA's capital as I was presented to the best commentators of the Bachelorette. (Ask Gena about it) Thanks Gena! :)

About
Female working professional. +Spends much time working in hospitality or socializing +Is low drama +Is a clean as you go person and expects the same +Very easy going and hangs in the master wing of the house most of the time +Occasionally binge-watches on the Netflix or DVR +Great tour guide and can steer you to the finer watering holes in DC I've updated my profile with groups! Musician -- no, Groupie -- YES! I love live music. I average 15 to 20 shows a year. 9:30 Club, Black Cat, some of the bigger venues too. I've even travelled & booked trips around concerts. I have an electric guitar at home (which I have not started lessons for because I'm not sure if I'm a lefty or righty or a lefty who plays righty). Additionally, it has been a dream of mine to play the drums since I was 10 years old. Rock Band just doesn't even come close. Running is a newish concept. I ran the Napa to Sonoma half marathon in July and cross trained with the Wine Aficionados. Most people don't realize there are some very good Northern Virginia wineries an hour's drive from DC. Barrel Oak and Chrystalis are two to get shout outs. I'm more of a Vodka Aficionado, but I can appreciate good grape too. So -- if you come out to DC and like concierge recommendations and are interested in a show, good food and/or drinks.... welcome home!
