About this listing
Guest apartment sleeps 1-4 adults in two beds. Very large deck with outdoor amenities and fun central location in LA make this apartment a cozy and fun base for your city exploration.
Our bright and airy one-bedroom guest apartment is located in the Silver Lake hills of Los Angeles. It is a hillside garden apartment, with our owner-occupied house above. (Because of the hillside, stairs are required to access the unit.)
The unit offers off-street parking (rare!) and a separate entrance for total privacy. It has been renovated top to bottom and features a living room, kitchen, separate bedroom, and full bath with tub, as well as beautiful cork and marmoleum flooring and roman shades with black-out linings. The furnishings are mid-century with a modern touch.
The kitchen includes a gas range, sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven, as well as ample cooking equipment, dishes, glasses, cutlery, and even cookbooks. There's a eating bar for two here, too.
The living room includes a full-sized comfort sleeper pull-out couch, easy chair, flat-screen television (with DirecTV and Roku Box), desk area (with plenty of Los Angeles visitors' guides), and folding table that opens to fit dinner for 3! An array of games, a CD player and an IPod dock are also available for our guests' use. High-speed WIFI is included.
The bedroom features a queen bed with organic linens, sizable closet with full-length mirror, dresser, vanity, and generous library of books. It is large-enough to accommodate a pack-n-play or crib as well. The bath linens are luxurious 800-gram weight towels.
Just outside the apartment’s door is a sizable slate patio with chairs, a cafe table, and gas barbecue grill, available for your use. Our shared garden and 600sf deck is just beyond, with chaise longues and a table with seating for 8.
There are citrus trees (lime, lemon, orange, tangelo, and kumquat), and in springtime, the blueberry bushes are fabulous!
We have a propane heater for chilly nights, and built-in lighting for long, mellow evenings under the stars. The view is trees and hillsides, with downtown's skyline in the distance.
A grocery, pharmacy, banks, and a number of restaurants and shops are all in walking distance, as is the Silver Lake reservoir. We do recommend a car, and with it, you’ll have easy access to the 2, 5, 134 and 101 freeways. A list of approximate driving times to a number of attractions/locales is below.
We live above, and are typically around to provide directions, restaurant and attraction suggestions, and anything else we can help with. We can also recommend a bonded sitter service, if you come with kids but need some time away!
Perfect for two, and cozy for four, the location is ideal for a stay in Los Angeles. The Silver Lake reservoir, Los Feliz, Dodger stadium, and downtown are just minutes away, as is Griffith Park, with its miles of trails, golf course, zoo, museums, train rides, and playgrounds. A great hotel alternative to anyone coming to Los Angeles for business or pleasure.
All utilities are included. We typically request a 2-night minimum stay and there is a $60 fee for a clean-out maid service added to the total. A 14% hotel tax is included in the nightly fee.

The apartment faces out onto a two-level deck comprised of something like 600 square feet of space. There are tables and chairs with seating for up to 8 people. A gas grill, strings of lights in the trees, and an outdoor propane heater make dinner outside, or just hanging out on the deck, a tempting idea.
Interaction with Guests
We live above the apartment and are available if you need us, but we are careful to respect our guests' space. When you're staying in our apartment, it's YOUR apartment.
Silver Lake is an exciting, culturally progressive neighborhood that offers a lot for young people, families and seasoned travelers. Great restaurants & bars, interesting shops, architectural highlights and an excellent walking/jogging path are just a minute away.
Several major bus routes have stops near the apartment but we strongly recommend using a car while you are here. We offer a reserved, secure and convenient parking spot for our guests' cars.
Primary renter must be at least 21 years old.
Absolutely no smoking inside the apartment. No cats inside the apartment.
Additional guest fee does not apply to children under 12 traveling with parents.
A brilliant experience. A home away from home. Welcoming yet respectful of our privacy. Spacious one bed with a beautiful deck to watch the sun setting. Bliss x
David and Heather's place was a great launch pad for our LA vacation - it's a great location to get to many different areas of town, and there's lots to do/see/eat in the Silver Lake area. David and Heather were upstairs, but we didn't see them except for the first night when David came to welcome us and offer tips about the area. When it wasn't raining, we really enjoyed using the sunny deck area to read and relax. They even offered use of their pack and play crib for our son and left some toys for him - much appreciated!
We had a terrific stay at David and Heathers Guest House. Everything that was promised was delivered. The house was clean, comfortable and the patio was spectacular. The neighberhood of Silver Lake is one of my favorites in LA. People friendly, walkable, good stores and restaurants. I visited the outdoor stairway where Laurel and Hardy filmed their classic "The Piano Movers"
My two teenage daughters and I stayed in David and Heather's guest apartment and we couldn't have asked for a cozier, more charming and home-like setting for our week-long stay. The grounds are beautiful and the apartment was complete with everything we needed for home-cooked meals and relaxed movie nights. We had complete privacy yet David and Heather went out of their way to let us know that they were available if we needed anything. I highly recommend this charming and quaint guest house for anyone looking for comfort and a place close to wonderful shops and restaurants in a very trendy neighborhood. After this experience, I can't imagine visiting Los Angeles and staying in a cold and cramped hotel room.
David and Heather's place is so lovely. It was the perfect size and location. It really does feel like your own apartment! They were super helpful and accommodating (even going out to buy a new coffee maker and coffee for us.) I highly recommend staying here!
...a truly wonderful experience! Terrific little apt in the heart of Silver Lake. Everything you need for comfortable living and relaxing as if it were your own. Private entrance with a spacious patio, lush views and off-street parking. Walking distance to the lake, shopping and eating. Accommodating and super respectful hosts. Definitely looking forward to staying here again!
