The lodgings are clean and comfortable and the neighborhood is safe and quiet. Shirani is very sweet and cheerful and speaks excellent English and Spanish. He is happy to answer questions and help in any way he can.
What I liked best was his advice about where to go for food and entertainment. Only locals know what nights and places are best for special dishes, music and general entertainment.
For the Price...you cannot lose....People are very friendly. When I was there for dental work there were people from all over the world.
Once you learn the bus routes to get in and out of downtown San Jose....it is a cinch......Big Plus was the supermarket at the end of the block....The place has laundry facilities...2 stocked kitchens....wifi...2 tv'S
Over all, I will stay there again when I come back in October for more Dental work.........Excellente
I recommend enthusiastically Casa Kibi Kibi to fellow travelers. My stay included seven days and I enjoyed it every single one. For starters, my communication with Shirani (manager) over e-mail was efficient. He responded to my inquires promptly and accurately. Within 24 hours I had a room confirmation and airport transportation arranged. Don Fernando, a friendly private driver picked me up from and to the Airport; he charges $35.00 one way. Upon my arrival, Mr. Shirani's parents were at door to greet me, and both were friendly and helpful in getting me settled in my room.
The house has that feeling of a family's home. Spacious living room, dinning room and a reading room overlooking a lovely-lush patio. The kitchen is well equipped to do basic cooking. The room I stayed in offered a comfortable double bed, a small desk and a small dresser with space to store personal things. Although the private bathroom was small, it provided privacy and sufficient hot water. The house in general and my room in particular felt impeccably clean.
Guests at the house seem very friendly and helpful. Many were eager to share their experiences, including where to find things and how to get to places. There is a well stock market literally across the street from the house. I loved the coffee shop within the market, which serves delicious espressos and breakfast. Public transportation runs often and safely throughout the day. There were red taxis by the market and local buses that run to downtown San Jose, every few minutes. Overall, I experienced a great stay at Kibi Kibi and would contact Shirani next time I am Costa Rica. Thank you Shirani and say hello to your parents.
Great experience. 3 of us stayed at Casa Kibi Kibi for 2 weeks. We each had our own rooms (and bathrooms) off the courtyard. The rooms were very nice and well-kept. The kitchen is well-equipped and there was cabinet and fridge space for all of us. The others staying in the house were all very nice, and Shirani was always willing to give us ideas for places we should go and visit.
Casa Kibi Kibi is conveniently located nearly across the street from a supermarket, and is 1 block away from the bus stop that goes to san pedro mall and to downtown san jose. its also 1 block from "Chicago" a restaurant + bar, and a rotisserie chicken place. The location was really convenient for us.
Very reasonably priced, very nice place to stay, I highly recommend it.
I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely consider staying at Casa Kibi Kibi again. I met several great people there and enjoyed the convenient yet safe location.
Casa Kibi Kibi was beyond fantastic. I planned a trip to San Jose for only 3 days at about 2 days in advance, and I needed a place quick. I also wanted to go beyond the normal "stay at an overpriced resort", and limit myself to what Costa Rica really has to offer. I saved Shirani's hotel info about 3 days in advance, but didn't actually book it until the day before departure. I immediately got a response within 30min. confirming my reservation, and I was offered transportation service to the house by Shirani's driver, Don Fernando, for 35$. Once there, I was met by Shirani, who was very welcoming and happy to see that I made it ok. I had a room to myself with my own bathroom, so the price was practically a bargain. The room was clean, the showers were hot, and the people staying at the hotel were extremely friendly. Upon arrival at Casa Kibi Kibi, Shirani helped me organize all the the tours I wanted to go on, as he was a former tour guide in San Jose. He made all the calls, obtained all the confirmation emails, had specific instructions on which bus stops to be at and at what time, and was highly connected within the tour guide community. He even managed to hook me up with a 20$ rainforest tour with his tour guide buddy, Dany Garcia when I went to Manuel Antonio National park. One of the major aspects that Casa Kibi Kibi appealed to me was that Shirani had a passion for commercial aviation. I also work in the aviation industry, and I believe that for someone who is looking for a quick 3 day adventure, or a full on extended stay on your days off under whichever airline benefits you have, Casa Kibi Kibi would definitely be the place for you. Casa Kibi Kibi is located 30min away from the airport, is about 15-20 min. outside the downtown area, and transportation is very easy and cheap. Just ask Shirani, and I guarantee he'd know how to get you where you need to go. If you do not arrange a transportation service with don Fernando, the simplest way to get the place would be to tell a taxi driver to drive you to "Vargas Araya" or the "Ex Super Sindy", which is a small red grocery store on the corner along the street you would be staying on. For those of you whose Spanish isn't up to par, you would tell the driver, "Manejame para Vargas Araya, o el ex Super Sindy, por favor." Addresses aren't really common in the smaller neighborhoods. They use landmarks that are closest to the house, but the house number is 777, and if you were facing away from the grocery store, the house would be about 50-60ft to the left. Remember that there is a 100$ security deposit when you arrive, but you get that back upon your return home. Thanks Shirani for everything!
This was my second stay at Shirani's guesthouse and I again had a great experience. I definitely recommend it to anyone going for a multi-night stay in San Jose/San Pedro. Shirani is extremely friendly, highly knowledgeable, and very helpful with whatever guests' needs may arise during a stay in Costa Rica. The house itself is as clean as they come, plus nice beds and a quiet neighborhood make for a good night's place.,
Best of all, I found the overall vibe of the guesthouse to be both friendly and mellow, with guests who get to know one another while also respecting each other's space. Guests come from several countries, and are of all ages and walks of life.
The accommodation is located in a quiet neighborhood east of the capital, away from congested traffic and bad air quality that many visitors to San Jose complain about. Yet it is less than a block from a fully stocked grocery store and three bus lines, so it is still a convenient location.
I stayed at Casa Kibi Kibi for a couple of weeks on my vacation in Costa Rica. I really liked the place! The facilities were clean, the small garden was beautiful, there was hot water in the shower and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The place and the neighborood felt safe. Shirani and all of the guests I met were very friendly and helpful. At the same time I had an own private room with an own bathroom, and even in the living rooms it was easy to concentrate on completing one's own tasks/work/reading/writing emails etc. Seemed like a perfect place even for a longer stay, if one is supposed to study or work in Costa Rica.
This was my first trip to Latin America - and the arrival in the Casa Kibi Kibi with the trusworthy driver Fernando made a very good first impression - in the situation I did not quite know what to expect from the new country and culture. Not too many people I knew from before have been to Costa Rica, so it was great to get advice of what to see and how things work from other guests and Shirani. He also recommended some best tours and even made some of the bookings. It was good, as then I could trust that those tour companies are reliable (my country's authorities actually warn tourists about some of the Costa Rican tour/adventure companies without much further explanations).
I liked the neighborood: it was very useful to have a big supermarket, cafeterias, a bus stop and taxis within 100 meters or in front of the house. Also it felt safe to walk around further, even all the way to the San Pedro mall in the daytime (did not try in the dark). I was just instructed to hide any valuables and watch out the traffic.
All in all, I thought Casa Kibi Kibi gave a good value for the money and was an excellent starting-point for exploring Costa Rica. In addition, I did enjoy the free mangos!! =)
I do not have anything negative to say about the Cosy Guest House.
Shirani is very pleasant, welcoming and helpful.
The house is located in a quiet area, a short walking distance from the supermarket. Taxis to go into the city are nearby or the bus stop 2 minutes walk away. Our room was clean with adequate facilities.
We particularly enjoyed the "home" atmosphere. It was nice to chat with the other guests at the end of the day, they were very friendly and some even shared their meal with us.
I happily recommend the Cosy Guest House.
Awesome, describes Shirani in a word. Quite frankly he is a phenomenal person, as well as property owner/manager. I was a bit concerned about Casa Kibi Kibi sight unseen after having had a not so great similar experience for a month in Samara. When the taxi dropped me off with two big suitcases in front of a strange store saying he couldn't find the place, (it was about 3 doors up the street) I wanted to jump on the first plane out. Shirani was there is less than two minutes literally to pick me up! What a relief. I was still quite apprehensive looking at the neighborhood, but as soon as I walked in I felt this an uncanny sense of relief. It was as if I had just arrived at a long lost friends house for a visit. It was really uncanny how at home I felt. He introduced me to a couple of other guests who also turned out to be invaluable. He told me how to get to everywhere I needed to go, and the next day the two other guests actually took me on a trial run. Shirani took me on a tour of the neighborhood and to all of the services I could ever need or want (post office, big grocery store - they even had Almond Milk :) AND he even told me where I could buy Greek yogurt which I, unfortunately had given up on but love! The location is excellent, neighborhood is safe despite my first impression, premises are clean, cleaned regularly and thoroughly, and any house rules are respected gladly by all. Okay, I too could go on and on with good things so let me try to find something not so good... Umm, okay, my room IS a bit small for the price and to have a private bathroom, but other larger rooms are available and have been offered to me first before any additional guests reserve. So far so good. I thought I would just stay a month while I looked for someplace else. Now I am not so sure. It's safe, clean, convenient. The only reason I would now even consider leaving is if I can find something similar at a lower price since I plan to be here for a while. Not sure if that is possible though, so for right now....I'm HOME.
