A charming and unique studio apartment on the ground level of a complex built by Charlie Chaplin in the 1920's. The entire complex is full of character and unusual features. Set in the heart of Hollywood/ West Hollywood the location is perfect too!
Part of the historic Normandie Towers, this cozy studio apartment and the village that surrounds it, was constructed in 1924 by Charlie Chaplin to house actors, staff and crew.
With hard wood floors and a separate kitchen, this private bungalow is well lit and ventilated, with fold up windows looking out into lush gardens. The apartment offers gas heating and gas stove in the spacious kitchen (plenty of counter space), while the bedroom houses a plush queen sized bed and separate desk area with it's own view of the village and whole lot of storage space within various wooden chest-of-drawers. There is limited hanging space for clothes too. With bi-fold doors, it's perfect to relax and open up the place to sun and breeze throughout the day.
At the heart of the complex is a paved communal courtyard, which catches sun most of the day and is perfect for barbeques at night.
Normandie Towers has been home to the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow and Buster Keaton. A tree adorned oasis in the middle of the Hollywood hustle and bustle, this peaceful community is perfect for an LA get away.
Despite its tucked-away vibe behind a wooded gate on a tree-lined street, it is a surprising few minutes from the hustle and bustle. There is one of every grocery store within three blocks, and to be in the grid of Santa Monica Blvd / Sunset / Melrose & Fairfax / La Brea is an unbeatable location. Public transit buses whiz down SMB at any moment, with a maximum twenty minutes of drive time to every corner of Los Angeles.
As for laundry, there is a laundry hut past "The Shire" gardens with a washer/dryer that is a dollar in quarters per load.
This is an adorable little cottage in a fantastic location. We were in town for a film festival up at the Chinese theater complex on Hollywood Blvd. The walk was about 18 minutes from door to door. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and the cottage was really comfortable. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, and amenities within a really short walk, including some delicious coffee at the end of the street at a place called the Food+Lab.
Thea was super responsive as were the neighbors who helped us when we first arrived. One was at the main door and introduced herself and helped us to find the cottage. Another was the guy who helped to set up the wireless service and he asked how we were doing and told us to drop in should we need anything. Next time we're in LA, we'll be getting in touch with Thea for another stay at this lovely little cottage.
This cottage and it's location is a perfect place to stay while in Hollywood. Pretty much everything you need was available to you , Even tea to start your day. Had a great time and the service provided by the grounds keeper is great too. Reachable at any time to answer any questions. Recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a quiet stay with a love one or even solo.
This studio is perfect for some days in LA. It's not a huge space, but have everything you need and it's perfect located. The village and the people who live there are amazing and friendly! I didn't get to know Thea personally, but she gave us all the support we needed! I do recommend this studio for some days in LA.
This is such a cute little cottage in a unique village shire type place. We enjoyed out stay here. Great location, cute little street. It is as pictured, cozy and clean. We went to this great little cafe call Food Lab that was just a block away, very convenient.
Great location; within walking distance to many restaurants and close to the Hollywood walk of fame.Cute spot for a couple who only need the bare necessities.
Thea was responsive to all enquiries.
What an amazing, cozy place! So romantic and beautiful! I will definitely be staying here again and will refer it to all of my friends!
Thank you Thea! I had a wonderful stay. Beautiful space.
Great hidden gem in Hollywood.
The quaint cottage was so cute and exactly as described. The location is great, a short walk to Hollywoods walk of fame and Chinese theatre and a short drive to Griffith Observatory and The Grove. The Cottage itself is adorable with its big open windows with a wonderful cool breeze, birds chirping in the morning made it a peaceful oasis to wake up to. Everyone who lives in this small gated community was so nice and helpful. I would recommend Thea's place and the only downfall for me was not staying longer!!! We will be back:)
Thea's place is a quiet refuge in the heart of the activity this area has to offer. We easily walked to many sights in the area. Runyon Canyon park was a great place to hike and see the city below. We used the metro to get to the beach at Santa Monica - it was a long ride (about an hour) but we took the time to just relax, enjoy the view out the window or read a book and not worry about the traffic. The neighbors are helpful and Thea is quick to respond to any questions.
