A sunny 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom space with a dining room (that seats six), charming kitchen, and huge living room. Our apartment has high ceilings, deco moldings and details, and hardwood floors. Kitchen has rad original tile work with updated fixtures. There is a stove, oven, and toaster oven, but no microwave or electric coffee maker. There is a French Press.
Bathrooms are classic 50s - one pink and one turquoise. One has a tub/shower combo; the other just a shower. Does the shower door have an awesome swan on it? IT DOES. The master bath also has a dressing room with a built-in vanity.
There is a queen bed with a Tempurpedic mattress, as well as a six drawer dresser you can use and two closets. The bedroom (as do most rooms) gets great sunlight.
The living room has a gorgeous (though unusable) fireplace. Amazing windows, cool art, and a built-in bookshelf.
There is no TV or stereo. There is fast Wi-Fi and Airplay enabled speakers to which you can stream music from your iPod or computer or whatever. There is a Tivoli radio in the kitchen. There is no phone landline.
The apartment is on the second floor with its own external stairway & entrance. The building is only two floors, so while there is someone below you, there is no one above.
There is coin-operated laundry in the building, street parking, quiet neighbors (which means we're looking for chill renters). That being said, the walls and floors are well insulated and we rarely hear folks. OH AND: the building is pink and totally beautiful.
The street is up a hill from Lake Merritt, and is very residential and quiet. You are a 3 minute walk from the lake, which is a total gem night and day (you can around it, take gondola rides upon it, use its lawns for lounging). You are well situated between downtown Oakland, Uptown (recently named one of the hippest neighborhoods in the U.S. by the Huffington Post) and the Grand Lake area. There is a huge farmer's market every Saturday within walking distance, as well as two movie theaters ((website hidden) New Parkway and Grand Lake theaters - they are totally boss), great coffee and cocktails, restaurants and grocery shopping (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Safeway).
It is a 10-15 minute walk to the 19th street BART station which will get you to SF or Berkeley very easily and quickly.
We love this apartment and think it is great for a single person or couple who needs/wants to be in the Bay Area for an extended summer stay. We are subletting for 26 days, but are happy to consider shorter stays, so be in touch if you are interested.

Matthew & Sarah's apartment in Oakland is AMAZING! It's seriously beautiful--well-decorated, cozy, lots of natural light, super spacious, and the list goes on. It's in a great location too, close to the 19th St BART, Whole Foods, and the lake of course. Matthew & Sarah were super communicative, helpful and thoughtful--they left us plenty of space for our things and even had a cleaning service come in the middle of our stay. I would definitely stay here again :)
