Staying at Karen's place was like staying in the home of a good friend or relative. Karen met us upon our arrival and explained how to operate the appliances, laundry facilities and bike locks. We immediately felt at home here and it was very cozy and hyggelig! Extremely spacious (bigger than photos depict) and the beds and bedding were very comfortable. There is a family with kids upstairs so there are footsteps that can be heard, but was not bothersome. You can also hear the laughter of children playing nearby at the school, which we liked! We used the bikes to get around the city and cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. The apt. is in a safe area (we were a mother/daughter traveling together) right next to a beautiful park, Rosenburg castle, and the botanical gardens. You are walking distance to pretty much everything ( 5-10 min. walk to Torvehallerne food market - best place for great food at good prices! (try the duck sandwich at Ma Poule-so good!), museums, Amalienborg castle/marble church, Christianborg castle, little mermaid, stroget, several grocery stores, banks, post office) (20 min. to TownHall, Nyhavn). Osterport station is less than a 10 minute walk away and this station goes directly to airport for about $6 US one-way buy zone 3 ticket from machine) Bus 26 is a block away and will get you to townhall if you don't want to walk.
We were very happy overall with our stay in this lovely apartment, with only one slight caveat to mention ( see below).
The location is very convenient and central, close to bus stops on a line that goes everywhere, excellent grocery stores, and three different parks: the formal King's Garden, the lovely and diverse Botanical Garden, and the third, more natural and semi-wild. A great treat for one who loves both cities and nature. Karen left us her bike and helmet, and I took full advantage, riding all over the city on the wide, safe bike lanes. You just lock your bike to itself and leave it! Great fun.
The caveat I mentioned has to do with some noise from upstairs. A couple of young children love to run and jump, so if you are a light sleeper or hope to sleep late in the morning, this could be a bother. But Karen has said she plans to look into it. If this is a concern for you, you might want to check with her about it before committing. Be sure to do so though, because the place is really delightful ... and a there's a great garden in the back with table and chairs to enjoy the sunshine and breeze! Can't wait to go back. Thank you, Karen, for your warm welcome and generous sharing of your home!
Karens Appartment really is located in the center of Copenhagen, which is very valuable for exploring. Each time we went out to see something in the city, it was less than 10 minutes with the bike.
Karen was very well-prepared for our arrival, and communication went smoothly. She lent us both of her bikes, which were in adequate condition to get around.
The area is low on traffic and popular with families. The apartment on the ground floor is very quiet, and consists of four main rooms: kitchen, bedroom, living room and dining room. The kitchen is very generously equipped; Karen obviously likes to cook :)
There's a very high-quality entertainment center in the living room, and a huge library of books (mostly Danish) throughout the whole apartment. There's a shower in the typically Danish bathroom.
Directly outside is a very pretty and mediterranian-styled courtyard, a popular place for casual meetings for the neighbors.
The bedroom can be reasonably shaded even during the day (barely bright enough to read a book). We weren't able to sleep in, though. There was a family with kids upstairs, and a sewage pipe in the wall next to the bed. When anyone ran through the room upstairs or used the shower, we woke up - typically around 8AM on weekdays, or 9AM on weekends. This didn't happen on our last day, so we don't know if this is a regular thing or not. Despite the morning sleeping troubles, we did enjoy our stay very much.
Parking is paid by the hour (Copenhagen: green parking zone), so you may want to park your car elsewhere during your stay. We parked for free in Nørrebro and would recommend to do the same if your car isn't too expensive.
Finally: cycling through Copenhagen is a unique and authentic experience. Definitely consider staying in this apartment for your tour.
My son, his girlfriend and I had a great week's stay at Karen's central Copenhagen flat. The location is ideal. It's close to all transportation hubs: metro, bus stops, trains, water buses and it is a straight shot by metro from the Copenhagen airport. The listing is walking distance to numerous top Copenhagen attractions and sights including Nyhavn, David Collection, Amalienborg palace, Marble Church, Town Hall, Tivoli, the Stroget and the not-to-be-missed National Gallery of Denmark and National History Museum. We all loved the canals ( even swam in Harbor Park), the lakes and Tivoli particularly! The well-manicured and beautiful Royal Gardens with majestic Rosenborg castle are literally across the street and we went by everyday to jog, stroll, people watch, picnic or use it as a short cut. There is even a puppet theater, also sculptures and statutes including one of Hans Christian Andersen. Shopping and entertainment is abundant in the Stroget and the surrounding side streets . There is a small fully-stocked grocery store half a block away and many supermarkets and neighborhood markets nearby. The courtyard with a nice patio set, pretty flowers, herbs and trees is a boon for outdoor dining which we did several times.
Karen was there to welcome me and explained how everything worked. She provided plenty of towels, bathroom and kitchen necessities. The ground floor flat is comfortable, spacious, nicely furnished and tastefully decorated. We loved the assortment of books in Karen's library and I started to read one in English. There is also a flat screen TV with multiple multilingual channels. We found the floor plan conducive to privacy and convenience and the three of us felt totally at home. The listing is a gem.
Thank you Karen! Highly recommended.
This is a lovely apartment situated in a quiet street, but it is very central. Karen met us there and gave us a very helpful and comprehensive guide to local amenities, and also provided all the flat info we needed in excellent English. It was lovely to stay in someone's home, especially one so well-equipped and furnished. We had a delightful three days in Copenhagen, and were glad to be returning to accommodation where we could relax at any time of day, and not have to eat out all the time.
Copenhagen itself is a lovely city. We particularly appreciated its flatness and the ease of getting around. Public transport is affordable, reliable and convenient - you can get 24 or 72 hour passes for any number of zones for bus and train which can include out of town areas as well - and distances are reasonable for walking. We did not hire bikes, but they are a very easy and safe way of getting around, given the excellent bicycle lanes that abound.
Many thanks to Karen. We thoroughly recommend her, and her flat is an ideal base for exploring both the city and its surroundings.
Karen was a great host. She welcomed us upon arrival and showed us around her beautiful house. There even was access to laundry in her building. We were traveling with our son, 1 year old, and Karen was equipped with a baby bed and had toys as well. Her house was lovely, the location was excellent, less than a 1-minute walk to a grocery store and 2 minutes from a huge park. Everything could be done from a walking distance. I highly recommend her place. And the house was clean! She even left us maps, brochures and suggestions about the area.
