About This Listing
Just an 8 minute drive away from the beach, our cool and comfortable three bedroom cottage offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Atlantic ocean and the countryside. An ideal home away from home for exploring our beautiful island's culture.
For nature lovers, writers and artists or for those who simply want to get away from the concrete jungle and connect with nature. Ezulwini Cottage is perched on a hill and sits on 1.4 acres of fertile land, commanding the most magnificent views of ocean, hills and valleys.
Our house is built of green heart timber so it is cool without the need for air conditioning. Mosquitoes are rare because it is windy up here. Our organic garden boasts of over 15 varieties of seasonal fruits, vegetables and a small herb garden. Walk through and pick whatever fruits and veggies are in season, while watching the hummingbird hovering over the flowers extracting the nectar. Do you know the rate at which a hummingbird flaps its wings? You will just have to relax and try counting!
Our double bedrooms are bright, airy and comfortable. Relax on the expansive balcony while eating a plate of fresh fruits from our garden, sipping sundowners - try our own special cocktail "Ezulwini Sunset" while enjoying the panoramic view and gorgeous sunsets.
We have an additional balcony upstairs to capture the mountain views; there is also a library and a sitting area if you need to be alone. There are also yoga mats if you are interested.
Forget your troubles and cares. Come to simplicity, come to Ezulwini Cottage.
Ezulwini is a Siswati/Zulu word meaning ‘Heaven’.
Entire house including upstairs and downstairs balconies, garden, library, yoga room and kitchen fridge for small items.
Interaction with Guests
We aim to make you feel at home. We can help plan your tours of the island and offer useful tips to make your stay enjoyable as well as save you money. We can collect you from the airport at a reduced rate or we can have a taxi collect you, as well as join you on trips if time allows.
Enjoy a short, quiet drive through a small shady cocoa plantation before approaching the cottage which is only an 8 minute bus ride away from the famous La Sagesse beach and nature centre. We are 30 minutes away from the city centre and 35 minutes away from the airport. Grenville town is only 20 minutes (website hidden). Saint David's is an ideal location to access popular attractions including Grand Etang Lake, River Antoine Distillery, Forts George, Fredrick and Old Fort. It's also great for cycling and getting to meet the locals or go for nature walks. This is also a good place to recuperate.
In Grenada it is the custom to greet others we meet along the way with "Good morning" or "Good afternoon." It is a way of recognizing a person's presence, so don't be surprised if you get lots of "good mornings"!
You can rent a car, jeep, moped or bicycle. There are buses to and from St. George's and Grenville, which usually run up until 7 or 8 p.m. You can't get lost, and people are very friendly and more than happy to give you directions.
Other Things to Note

Please note that the price quoted is based on a couple per night per room with tropical breakfast included.
Breakfast includes homemade bread and jams, tea (herbal or regular) or coffee, seasonal fruits and juices from our garden.
Meals can be prepared for your convenience at an additional fee. They must be booked in advance as they are always freshly prepared. Vegetarian meals are no problem either.
Since I volunteer with Medecins Sans Frontieres, I may or may not meet you, but you will meet Bob from the U.S. and Jelena from Croatia.
No smoking indoors, except on balconies and outside the cottage.
Please wash off sand before entering house, and do not bring back to the house any strangers or 'friends' you may find on your travels. Grenada is safe but one still has to be careful.
We had a superb time in Grenada thanks in no small part to Bob (Marguerite's partner). Bob hosted us since Marguerite was out of town.
Bob is not only very hospitable and attentive, but offers seasoned "Western" sensibilities as well as some good local knowledge of the island, which is a very different culture indeed.
Communication was perfect from start to finish. Bob performed airport pickups and dropoffs for a reasonable fee, and I would highly recommend this.
Breakfast on the balcony was amazing every day. The fresh, organic tropical fruits that they grow are truly spectacular and were the highlight of the meal.
The wifi worked great, and the suite we stayed in was comfortable and well-appointed. Bob was able to link us up with a local scooter rental company who was also fantastic. The scooters were delivered on our first morning and picked up on our last evening.
Bob's local knowledge of the island was very helpful and allowed us to discover food, beaches, and sights that we would have surely missed otherwise. Additionally, his interpretation and explanation of some local customs, directions, and general assistance in adapting us to the Grenada way were indispensable.
The house is up in the hills and is therefore cooler and with fewer mosquitoes, both plusses.
Staying here is highly recommended!
How we miss the tree frogs lulling us to sleep & Marguerites wonderful breakfasts ! Freshly squeezed juices and exotic fruits from the garden, homemade bread & preserves served with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble for our wonderful (website hidden). David's is about thirty minutes from the tourist area of St George's & Grand Anse. Try 'Umbrellas'for great ribs & cocktails at sunset & 'Coconut Beach' for Lobster, La Sargesse for Chocolate mousse and a quiet beach..
We used the local buses which were frequent until eight pm,cheap & fun. Although tantamount to a fair ride at times we covered most of the Island this way.
Our only disappointment was the lack of walking trails, don't try the Grand Etang shoreline route unless you relish ankle deep mud & lack of wildlife! (although Bob does a great boot cleaning Job, thanks!x)
We had a great week & met nothing but kindness from all the lovely Grenadians.
Our stay with Marguerite was wonderful! She was very responsive to e-mails and communication before we arrived. Once there, she helped us organize our plans into an order that made sense. She also was able to arrange for car rental (though we ultimately ended up taking the bus around and having family drive us most of the time). The breakfast was wonderful and the view from the balcony unbelievable.
She provided us with lots of fruit and allowed us to go through her organic garden and pick herbs, vegetables and fruits to eat. Most nights we cooked our own dinner using things we picked up from the market and herbs from her garden.
As she mentions in her post, due to the elevation of her home, there is a nice breeze that kept us cool while we were there.
My only regret is that we did not stay there longer!
Lovely home in a luxurious garden. Magnificent views of the sea. The house is clean and cozy. Margaret is very friendly and caring host, she helped us answer all your questions. Margaret prepares delicious. We spent an unforgettable week in her guests.
Our stay with Marguerite was everything we had hoped for and more! What a delightful host and what a beautiful, secluded but welcoming home! Marguerite is a wonderful cook and our breakfasts on the deck with the view, with all things home grown, were the perfect start to our memorable days in Grenada. Highly recommended! Thank you Marguerite and Bob for all the info and the laughs. Our stay with you was a highlight of our island hopping adventure! We hated to leave.

About the Host, Marguerite
Rootsy, traveller and nature lover. I travel and volunteer with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). I enjoy helping others but look forward to returning to Ezulwini to relax before heading off to somewhere else. I have travelled to Europe, Asia, North America, and lived and travelled in Africa but there's no place like home. I admire honesty and compassion in people. I don't like pretentious people or those who take advantage of the less fortunate.
I enjoy my garden and watching things grow - I think and act spontaneously - Life is a journey, there are going to be bumps along the way - so what? Just think of the next smooth bit, and the smooth bits are many!
Here at Ezulwini we welcome everyone irrespective of race, religion, sexual orientation or nationality we strive to make you feel at home.
When I am abroad volunteering, Bob (Bostonian from the USA) will take care of you. He is happy and proud to show you around the garden with his carefully crafted pathways and herbs he's constantly expanding. He will give you great ideas about where to visit and how to get there.
