  • We were very happy with our stay here. The room had almost everything you need and if it doesn't, Sharon is very happy about providing it. It could definitely use a coffee maker, hand soap and maybe a toaster, but definitely a coffee maker and hand soap. We left some instant for the next person that gets there ;). Nice big fridge, satellite TV to watch a movie on, comfortable bed, big shower, hair dryer, fruit from their yard. Mitch explained that it's solar powered so if you want a hot shower, try to logically think about what time of the day you take it. We mostly kept to ourselves but Sharon and Mitch seemed incredibly welcoming and friendly.

They have two dogs and two cats that hang around and are all super super friendly. They're you're typical hawaiian outdoor dogs so they're smelly ones but it's hard not to love on them. We especially took to Sasha. They can be a little loud at night but the way I see it, they're good guard dogs and if it wasn't them being loud it was the roosters that are all over the island. Wherever you stay, bring earplugs.

The blue table isn't there but instead is a nice wooden table and separate chairs to enjoy the outdoors. Private but not private enough to walk on patio in the nude per se. If you hike to the end of the road, cross the river and keep walking you get to a cool wire bridge with amazing views of the canyon. Note: don't cross if river is above knees and you will cross the river about three times before getting to the bridge.

I think something to keep in mind with airbnb is that it's not a hotel room. Most cheap rooms are not going to be upscale so clutter downstairs didn't bother me and its always best to communicate issues with the owners. Also, they ask to call to let them know when you're coming. Do it, it will help everyone involved. If they're aren't there, walk upstairs to the main living room, they'll be a note on the fridge. We were too busy enjoying the sights and each other to really care about the details. Thanks Sharon and Mitch!

  • Mitch and Sharon were great hosts, and we loved staying at their space. (We were in the downstairs studio). Very clean, spacious with deck and very large bathroom. They were generous with fruit and veggies that grow on their land, and were helpful with information about the area.

We loved a lazy morning there, kicking back watching the play of light on the canyon walls and the chickens running around the yard. Very sweet pets were also part of the charm.

The location was great for us - a little ways up the valley, but easy access to the town and beach. Great west side location. Remember, though, that you are in the valley, and so it gets dark there earlier than down by the beach. Remember also to bring your repellent - there are lots of mosquitoes in the evening.

  • Thank you, Sharon and Mitch, for your awesome hospitality. We loved staying in your beautiful studio in this amazing garden. Plus, thanks for taking me surfing in the morning, Mitch! We all had a wonderful time.

  • Mitch was not home and I didn't meet him. Sharon was a great host, and the room is lovely.

  • We would not recommend this property to anyone. On arrival to this house we noticed a lot of junk in the yard and quite a few dumped cars. There was nobody home so we went back into the town and phoned Sharon. She was away and so was Mitch, we got instructions and went back to the house and went into our room, There was a nice welcome note from David an the table explaining that he would be back after 11pm and with lots of suggestions for things that we could do. We are very independent people and already had our time there planned. We noticed immediately that the place was very dirty and unloved, the crockery and cutlery were not clean, there was not a kettle and no tea towel. The double kitchen sink had wire strainers in the plug holes and these were full of old food scraps, the fridge was also not clean it had an old mouldy coconut in it and other food scraps. The bathroom sink looked like it had never been cleaned and the towels were old and thin. The shower curtain was dirty and the base of the shower stained. The porch area outside did not have the blue and white table and chairs that you see in the pictures of the place and it needed a good sweep and mop. Then the bugs came out and OMG did they ever, it was thick with bugs that obviously can get through the fly wire screens. There should be a note explaining to close all the windows. We did not enjoy our time here and wished that we had stayed at the previous airbnb at Princeville for those 2 nights and travelled down to see Waimea Canyon, which you could do easily in a day. The place we stayed before this was clean, homely and loved unlike this place and cost the same amount. My husband went upstairs the second night to say hello to Sharon and try and get a kettle and tea towel but there were only 2 other couples that were staying there through airbnb and they had not seen the owner either. The dogs were friendly but do bark a lot. I can only hope that Sharon and Mitch will spend the cleaning fee that we paid for cleaning of this dirty house.

  • The studio is located in a gorgeous canyon. One can take a 2 mile walk along the River levee and make their way to the ocean, stores and restaurants. David, who served as the host while Mitch and Sharon were gone was very welcoming, caring and conscientious.

  • I cannot recommend this property. When we arrived the bed was not made. The sheets were damp laying on the bed.and there were no towels. The place was not clean. I understand you need to expect bugs in Hawaii but the bugs were a result of neglect. The bathroom was very dirty. I really don't think they had cleaned the place in some time. I don't understand how you can rent a dirty room. The walls, sides of refrigerator and just everywhere was dirty. The dogs fought and barked throughout the night. It sounded like people moved furniture upstairs at night. It was really unacceptable conditions. On top of everything we paid a cleaning fee. Finally there was no hot water in the shower.

    Response from Sharon And Mitch:

Aloha nancy I was disappointed to hear that your stay with us wasn't perfect. When we spoke on your arrival i apologized to you for your studio not being ready and asked what i could do to help the situation.  you said it was fine and to not worry about it.  The next morning when I brought fresh picked fruit to your studio and once  again asked how are things ? your answer was very positive. It sounded to me that things were going very well for you and your partner.  If things weren't to your standards why didn't you immediately bring it to our attention?  If you saw a bug or heard a dog bark and were irritated by it why wouldnt you seek us for a remedy  to the situation?  We are your hosts we want to make you as comfortable as possible. A word of advice to you in the future when arriving early and finding your accommodations not ready please notify your host and let them know it is alright with you if they complete their set up on your room.

  • We had a great time in Kauai
We saw whales, waimea canyon, waterfalls and more:)
Bring mosquito spray with you. We had a lot of mosquitos in our room!

  • The room was great. There was a very large king size bed and large bathroom and kitchen. Sharon and Mitch were great hosts and gave us hiking advice. I'd definitely stay there again.

I have put a room in my house in airbnb and here is what I like of my guests. I am also this kind of guest. I like a guest that wants to explore on their own. If time allows I like to hike with you. Frequently I am very busy so it is important that guests are independent and want to go and explore on their own. A guest at my house will be self directed. I have a full time career and will not be able to show you around. However I am very social and look forward to meeting you. Staying here will be similar to staying at a hostel in that you are self directed, make your own plans, do your own thing and clean up after yourself. The only exception is that the accommodations are nicer. My house is clean but, I do work full time so I keep my prices low and my rooms livable. If you like immaculate places where you are waited on, this is not the place for you.
