The space
Located just a short walk from the famous Castle Rock trail, our home is right on the water's edge in a protected cove near the outer edge of Boulder Bay. Since it’s not near any busy streets, the setting is very quiet and tranquil.

An absolute gem, offering unreal views as well as amazing craftsmanship and creative accents throughout, including multiple stained glass windows, cedar hardwood floors, rock fireplace with solid wood and log mantel, rustic-elegance decor … this is a true artist’s retreat with all the modern comforts. You will not want to leave once you walk in the door and see what can only be described as “infinity” lake water views! This home is ideal for families.

There is parking for 3 cars in the driveway, and there is a covered walkway with a short stairwell that leads to the house.

As you enter the top floor of our home, the first thing you will notice are the amazing views of the lake. In fact, most of the rooms in the house have stunning lake views. The entire upstairs is open floor plan, providing a spacious and inviting flow for easy entertaining.

The cozy living room has a gas burning fireplace and a TV with Roku, as well as an assortment of books, board games, playing cards, and puzzles. The room even has an old-fashioned dial radio so you can tune in to some of the local stations (we’ve downloaded several great songs after listening to what the Big Bear DJ’s are selecting!!)

The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, an island and dishwasher, as well as all the essentials (including Keurig and Mr. Coffee makers to keep you alert and ready for all your vacation thrills!)

Enjoy the incredible views from the handcrafted dining room table and chairs that comfortably accomodate 8 people. Extra wooden folding chairs are available upon request.

Outside the living room is a balcony deck with a table and seating for 5, as well as a built-in stainless steel natural gas BBQ. The house is stocked with lots of outdoor dinnerware as well as outdoor serving platters and bowls so there’s even more incentive to enjoy the area worry-free (we also recommend these items for young children in or outside the house so parents can relax and enjoy their meals).

Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, as well as a laundry area.

The master bedroom, dubbed the “Monet Room,” was designed to look and feel like a honeymoon suite! Complete with a King size bed, hand-crafted wooden dressers adorned with twinkle lights, a record player and selection of vinyl records, a hot tub just feet away on the adjoining deck, AND amazing views of the lake, you are guaranteed to feel transported. The room also has an attached bathroom with 2 sinks and a steam shower with 2 shower heads.

Bedroom 2, the “Van Gogh Room,” has a Queen size bed and incredible views of the lake. Most people say this bedroom has the best views.

Bedroom 3, the “Nook,” has 2 bunk beds and great views of the lake. On cloudy nights, kids and adults will love plugging in the Rosetta star and galaxy projector that fills the walls and ceiling with the wonders of the cosmos! We also made sure to provide several bedtime stories for little ones in this room, as well as some beloved classics for kids of all ages.

Outside the bedrooms is a laundry area with washer/dryer.

Perhaps the most unique and surprising feature of our property is the fully stocked arcade that is situated inside the 540 square foot completely refurbished garage, located between the front of the house and the driveway. Since the arcade is separate from the main house, there is absolutely no disruptive noise inside the main house. In fact, it is a fun "destination" to go to after dinner or a long day of skiing/snowboarding.

You will be hard pressed to find a better home arcade in the Big Bear area. We carefully designed and curated the space to look and feel like a real arcade, from the fun game-themed art on the walls to the classic “pops” of neon lights, to the gorgeous hanging parlor lamp in the center of the room to all the games themselves — the entire area is pure eye candy! As well as the familiar standards such as a pool table and Foosball, the arcade features a real Skee-Ball game, a full size Air Hockey, a full size Ms Pacman arcade game, a Star Wars digital pinball machine, a sit down 2 player Marvel arcade game, and an electronic dart board with several game options and automatic score keeping. To top it all off, there is forced air heating to keep the entire game room nice and toasty in the winter AND a vintage-style mini jukebox that syncs to Bluetooth so you can play your favorites!

The backyard is situated just feet from the lake and the private dock, which also has a floating platform attached. These are great places to do some fishing, swimming, or just enjoy the beauty.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home, the entire front yard and back yard, and the garage that has been converted into an Arcade. In addition, guests can access the lake, shoreline, and the private dock and platform. Free high-speed WiFi is also available.

After parking in the driveway, guests enter the covered walkway that leads to the front door. There are a half dozen steps to descend before entering the front door.

Once inside, guests have access to the kitchen, living room, dining room, half bathroom, and outdoor deck with BBQ and table/chairs.

Inside the front door is a stairway that leads downstairs to the 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, as well as the laundry area. The hot tub is located on a deck outside of the primary bedroom. This deck also has stairs that lead up to the upper BBQ deck.

Neighborhood highlights

Located in a secluded cove, this location is very protected from the predominant winds out of the West.

Since it’s not near any busy streets, the neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. The famous Castle Rock trail is just a short walk away, so you won't have to fight for a parking spot on the side of the road.

The house itself is nestled into a hillside that slopes down to the water. There is nothing between the house and the lake, and the views are spectacular!

When I was growing up, my grandparents had a vacation rental called Whit's End, named after my Grandpa Whitman. It was a magical place, right on a lake, where we had many amazing times making memories together. Many years later, we found this magical property and it reminded me so much of my Grandpa's place that we named it Whit's End in honor of him. Our hope is that it will bring you the same joy that it brings to us.
