If you want to have real fun in an unique place with a lot of character, this is your place!

Feel the freedom, bring your pet, smoke if please you, meet a lot of nice people like you at the hostel, just in front, go to the disco or to the bar next door (ask me for free tickets), go surf or walk on the beach around the block, take a lot of pictures and don't forget to do some Caipirinhas with the Cachaça from the oak barrel. Enjoy!

It is a charming penthouse located at the heart of the night life in Leblon, a few steps away from the beach in the most elegant neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.
You can find the best restaurants, discos, bars, 24H supermarket, everything only a few meters from the apartment.

A big terrace (60m2) where you can view of the Two Brothers Mountain. (Morro Dois Irmão)
Winter garden with a nice hammock, also with view for the Two Brothers Mountain.

It is equipped with:

  • Great stay in Leblon during the 1st 2 weeks of the World Cup. Walter's place is in a great location (if you want to escape the crowds of Ipanema/Copacabana). The loft is unique and adequate for three people. Great terrace and location, location, location. The beach is a block away and there's a bike shop in the neighborhood -Special Bikes - where you can rent by the day for 60 reals. There's also a Rio bike share program but seems difficult for foreigners to sign up.

Walter's a very responsive host and made it very convenient to get the key with the assistance of the hostel across the street. We planned this stay 9 months in advance and Walter kept to his word…whereas I have had hosts cancel reservations at the last minute before. Obrigado Walter!

  • I going to be as honest as I can about my experience at Walter's Photography Loft. First let me say that I chose this flat based on price and location, which were the two areas it lived up to. Walter, early on was willing to lower the price as I was staying two weeks, which was a major bonus and I really appreciate. Also I experienced some flooding while I was there and he responded immediately and fixed it the same day.

The problem with the flat is that its just substandard. It smells like it has a major pipe problem -- the whole street smells though -- and though this is Brazil and parts of it do smell, generally this is not the case in Leblon and Ipanema, but Walter's flat definitely smelled like sewage some of the time. And generally it felt hard to keep clean even though we tried. It had some ants (not a big deal for us) in the kitchen and one cockroach in the sink -- that was the only one we saw.

Also the furnishings were not very comfy. It just sort of seemed like Walter took the easy way out with furnishing this place the couch was old and dilapidated, the table was so small you could think it was for children and the beds were pretty rough. It's almost impossible to cook a meal -- which if you are staying for weeks on end is usually important. And this place is definitely not for tall people, as you couldn't stand in the kitchen if you are above 6 feet since its got a slanted ceiling.

However, I would say that some people would actually do well with this flat. As long as it wasn't a particularly smelly day. For example I think if a couple who was under 25 were to stay here for under a week, they probably would get a lot of what they want out of it. It is bright and spacious and I think a younger version of myself would generally not have minded most of the stuff that bothered me on this trip. Also if you don't cook, party all the time, and use the place to crash, you will like its location and access.

Thanks to Walter for being a good host and giving me a free cleaning mid way through the stay to make up for the flooding. Sorry I couldn't be more positive about the place.

  • Walter's place is in a great part of Leblon for a traveler. He was easy to get in touch with and very accommodating. He is a great host.

  • Walter was an amazing host. Such a nice guy. Love the apt and the location is top noche. Really cosy apartment with a nice balkony, great for breakfast.

I must say that Walter is a very good photographer as his apartment is not nearly as nice as the pictures. Extremely poor communication, the reservation was with the instant booking option, and after I wrote him, it took him 3 days to reply, just saying where to pick up the keys. Reservation for 3, only 2 beds available with an incredibly dirty kitchen. he sent a maid to fix the extra bed and "clean". No difference whatsoever, I just wish I could attach the pictures.. the apartment was left just as dirty. we texted him again and he agreed to come meet us. He kept saying that the apartment was clean and that he gets a lots of guests but agreed to let us check out early (and refund us) if we wanted. As it was kind of late and my sister just flew in from an ultra long flight, we decided to sleep there the first night and check out the following morning. that was the best decision about Walter's apartment.

  • Appartement très bien situé, à quelques mètres de la plage. Des améliorations sont à envisager pour rendre l'appartement plus confortable : literie, rideau de douche, aménagement intérieur.

  • We stayed in Walters Photographers loft for the first week of January 2014. The apartment is as cool as it looks and sadly for us the night club down stairs was having a refurb but we had an amazing time all the same. The loft is located in the heart of everything and we were very happy to discover a very safe area too. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed when we arrived. Walter had no reason to meet us but was very helpful via sms message throughout our stay and made sure we had everything we needed. Rio was an experience and we had fun but sadly on our last day we fell into trouble. I would say 50% our fault but also 50% the "Gringo Rio" experience. Either way, the reason I mention it is that when we fell in to trouble Walter was nothing but amazing. Walter not only met us in person, which put him out, but was so helpful and even more, understanding. The apartment is very cool, Walter is such a laid back guy and I would recommend staying here to any people looking for good fun in Rio safe in the knowledge that their landlord is an absolute gentleman and someone I would like to meet again.

  • Really nice location. So close to the beach, groceries and restaurants. The host was nice and reachable most of the times. He never left us without a reply.
But it is an apartment that needs some renovations. Since windows don´t close correctly AC is useless and trying to sleep under 40 degrees with no AC it is pretty difficult. The beds are not the best (the bed for the third guest is really small, only suitable for a children) and the kitchen is small and difficult to use. Overpriced but we had a good time over there.

  • It all started well, with Walter allowing us to check in early.
    However, a few disappointments followed.
The loft was not nearly as nice as it looked from the pictures. It was clean, but rather shabby, sliding doors not sliding, and electric fixtures hanging from the walls.
There was no wifi password available, and it took a full day before the host provided it. It then turned out that the cable modem had been disconnected, but after some troubleshooting it worked fine.
The worst part was that there is building work taking place next door and on the floor below. The hammering noise, going on to 11 pm one day, was unbearable. Walter did not really seem to cafe, just saying that he was not responsible for it.
All in all a disappointment, not worth the price. If the host had been a bit more helpful, that would have made a difference.
